Hello Doctor, I am about 22 years. On December 5th I met with an accident and had a left ankle fracture. On doctor consultant I was under cast for 6 weeks and the cast as been removed. Its been 5 days but still I feel the pain like hell while walking. If the bone has healed completely why would I feel the pain?

This pain that you have now is the post imobilisation pain. The joint now will be stiff and muscles around must have become weak. Pls visit a physiotherapist at the earliest who can movilise the joint to increase the range and decrease the pain. Also to start good strengthening exs.

You should take analgesic like paracetamol or combiflam as per need after meals & wait for 15 days. If no relief you should again go for uric acid test. Wishing you a healthy life.

Bone Fracture - Common Types and How They Can be Prevented?

The human body allows for movement through the complex system of bones, muscles and joints. A break in the bone is medically known as a fracture and can be caused by constant stress, pressure or impact. It is common knowledge that with age, the bone strength decreases and incidence of fractures (osteoporotic fracture) increases. Based on the affected bone and impact, different types of fractures are commonly identified as:

  1. Complete: When the breakage of the bone is complete, producing two or more pieces, it is referred to as a complete fracture.
  2. Incomplete: When the breakage is incomplete, where the bone has cracked, but does not break into pieces, it is known as an incomplete fracture.
  3. Another type would be the open or closed fracture:
    • Open fracture: When the skin is exposed and the bone breaks through this exposed skin, it is known as compound or open fracture.
    • Simple or closed fracture: The bone breaks, but the skin continuity is maintained. Again, here are different types including hairline, greenstick, oblique, etc.

What is the reason behind a fracture?
A bone will fracture when force is applied to it that is stronger than the bone itself. A key factor in a bone’s susceptibility to fracturing is age. Both children and older people are prone to bone fractures. Children’s bones are constantly growing and have not reached their full strength. Elderly people have brittle bones with old age and are prone to develop bone diseases, making them susceptible to fractures.

How they are treated?
Splint and pain medications are commonly used. Closed reduction where the fracture is reduced without opening up the tissues and open reduction, where the tissues are opened up are common approaches to managing fractures.

Can they be prevented?
Especially with children and in the elderly, extra precaution should be taken to avoid any kind of injury and fracture.

  1. Develop an exercise routine to strengthen the muscles
  2. Manage weight
  3. Use the right footwear and exercise gear
  4. Watch your medications (avoid sleep inducing ones)
  5. Increase lighting in the room/home to improve clarity of vision for elderly
  6. Make the home/living area fall-proof by reducing clutter, using railing in the bathroom and bedrRhinoplastyoom, using rubber mat, etc.
  7. While a fall may seem inevitable, taking the above steps can help reduce the incidence and severity of a fall, thereby minimizing damage. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Hi my age is 28 M am suffering from sprained ankle . I am taking sazo 500 mg. It's working as pain is less. But problem is that I have to take it daily. Can you please advice me is there any alternative to avoid medicine on daily basis.

For immediate self-care of an ankle sprain, try the r. I. C. E. Approach: rest. Avoid activities that cause pain, swelling or discomfort. Ice. Use an ice pack or slush bath immediately for 15 to 20 minutes and repeat every two to three hours while you're awake. If you have vascular disease, diabetes or decreased sensation, talk with your doctor before applying ice. Compression. To help stop swelling, compress the ankle with an elastic bandage until the swelling stops. Don't hinder circulation by wrapping too tightly. Begin wrapping at the end farthest from your heart. Elevation. To reduce swelling, elevate your ankle above the level of your heart, especially at night. Gravity helps reduce swelling by draining excess fluid. Here are some things you can do to help prevent a sprained ankle. Warm up before you exercise or play sports. Be careful when walking, running or working on an uneven surface. Wear shoes that fit well and are made for your activity. Don't wear high-heeled shoes. Don't play sports or participate in activities for which you are not conditioned. Maintain good muscle strength and flexibility. Practice stability training, including balance exercises. Best wishes.

I am 35 years old and I am suffering from thyroid. Any way take caldikind plus (mankind)1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days Do ankle/foot & toe exercises It may have to be further investigated Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take.

Avoid long sitting, toward bending, lifting heavyweight. Do rest and hot fermentation twice a day. And do spine stretching exercise. If it work then ok otherwise tk physiotherapy treatment must for you.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

It looks like you are anaemic. And also you have to check with your vitamin and calcium, if the bones are weak then automatically the pain gets triggered more as there is less energy during any metabolic activity. If the iron levels are poor in the blood then we often get muscular pain in between the shoulder and elbow.

Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. SPRING BEDS, FOLDING BEDS OR THICK MATRESS ARE HARMFUL Use no pillow under the head. DO HOT FOMANTATION. Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab OD x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again.. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem.
