Patients suffering from most types of low back pain are often referred for physical therapy for four weeks as an initial conservative (nonsurgical) treatment option before considering other more aggressive treatments, including back surgery. The goals of physical therapy are to decrease back pain, increase function, and teach the patient a maintenance program to prevent future back problems. Common forms of physical therapy include: 1.Passive physical therapy (modalities), which includes things done to the patient, such as heat application, ice packs and electrical stimulation. For example, a heating pad may be applied to warm up the muscles prior to doing exercising and stretching, and an ice pack may be used afterward to sooth the muscles and soft tissues. OSee Physical Therapy: Passive PT (Modalities) for Back Pain 2.Active physical therapy, which focuses on specific exercises and stretching. For most low back pain treatments, active exercise is the focus of the physical therapy program. This article focuses on active physical therapy and exercise as a means to help recover from back problems and prevent or minimize future flare-ups of low back pain Low back pain has lasted between two and six weeks, or if there are frequent recurrences of low back pain, physical therapy is often recommended. Some spine specialists consider physical therapy sooner, particularly if the pain is severe. •Read more: Exercise and Back Pain In general, the goals of physical therapy are to decrease pain, increase function, and provide education on a maintenance program to prevent further recurrences. A physical therapy program for back pain usually has two components: 1.Passive physical therapy to help reduce the patient's pain to a more manageable level 2.Active exercises Passive Physical Therapy - Modalities Acutely, the physical therapist may focus on decreasing pain with passive physical therapy (modalities). These therapies are considered passive because they are done to the patient. Examples of modalities include: •Heat/ice packs •TENS units •Iontophoresis •Ultrasound.

I am feeling pain in upper back of my body specially on right side of the backbone. While lying on bed it pains on slight movement. Turning my head to each side gives a pinching pain in the above place. The pain seems to have increased over the days and having slight discomfort in the chest also. Please suggest any remedy.

I have some problem about LAMBER spondylitis L5. It's naturally when I do any type movement or walk. It also happens when I go to bed or wake. It's basically major problem for me so I can't work properly. So please suggest some solution to overcome this problem. It's really painful for me. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME BETTER SOLUTION.

Hello- The root cause of Lumber spondylitis according to ayurveda are (you must avoid them)- ➲ Awaking wholenight ➲ Excessive exercise ➲ Controlling urine motion and toxins ➲ Improper combinations of food (eg. Chicken with fish) ➲ Trauma to the varmas ➲ Accident ➲ Lifting heavy weight Ayurveda provides some internal and external medications to be free of pain caused by Lumbar Spondylosis. A) Internal Medication: Dhanvanthram Kashayam, Vidhariyadhi Kashayam, Maharasnadhi Kashayam can be taken internally. The dosages are given in the outer label of the decoction container. Above stated decoctions are widely available in all ayurvedic shops and free of side effects. B) External Medication: Kottam chukkadhi thailam, Ksherabala, Dhanvanthram, Narayana thailam are the oils that can be applied on the pain area externally. You will get 40% of relief by using self appliances. There is no permanent cure via home remedies. Tips to follow: You should follow the proper sitting posture advised by the doctor as a post treatment activity. No heavy weight lifting should be done. Regular exercise has to be done. No long drives for the patient. The patient has to take short breaks from the work. No heavy twisting or bending. The person has to be stress free.

Some random points on my body are paining. It's sometimes my wrist, my shoulder, my fingers, my leg, the area under my eye (the bone), upper arm. It's happening at random intervals. The pain doesn't stay for long. It's there for a couple of seconds or minutes. I'm honestly very scared. Any help?

My wife suddenly started having severe pain from left knee joint in May 2017. She is unable to sleep and pain killers are not giving any relief. X-ray was done as per Surgeons advice and report says Osteo-Arthritis. Please suggest remedy.

Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee Exercises would help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle which is the key muscle. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping a soft ball underneath the knee and you have to keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.
