lybrate-user, Your blood glucose levels are normal. There is no pregnancy related diabetes. Your TSH is slightly high. Ideally TSH should be between 0.1 to 2mU/L in first trimester, 0.3 to 3 mU/L in second and third trimester. There may be a need to take hormonal supplement for the period of pregnancy. Thanks.

1.Little bit of bending to one side upto 25 degree is considered normal. So don't worry 2. If the bending is more and it is associated with painful erection, it is due to thickening of fibrous tissue on one side as in Peyronie's disease and may need surgery. 3.you may consult urologist for advice.

Hearing Loss - Types And Causes

MBBS, MS - ENT

Hearing Loss - Types And Causes

Hearing loss is a common sensory problem that generally develops with increasing age or due to prolonged or persistent exposure to loud noises. It is one of the most typical problems that occurs throughout the world. If you are suffering from partial hearing loss, you may find ways of keeping in touch with your family and friends. If you are not suffering from such the following may help you keep your hearing intact for years to come.

Types of hearing loss:
There are two main types of hearing loss:
1. Conductive Hearing Loss where the problem lies in the middle ear, eardrum or ossicles. A conductive hearing loss affects the passage of sound between the eardrum and the inner ear. Sound passes down the ear canal to the ear drum and through the middle ear, where the sound is transmitted across the middle ear by the three bones called the ossicles to the inner ear.

Causes of conductive hearing loss:

  1. Malformation of outer ear, ear canal, or middle ear structures
  2. Fluid in the middle ear from colds
  3. Ear infection (otitis media - an infection of the middle ear in which an accumulation of fluid may interfere with the movement of the eardrum and ossicles
  4. Allergies
  5. Poor Eustachian tube function
  6. Perforated eardrum
  7. Benign tumors
  8. Impacted earwax
  9. Infection in the ear canal
  10. Foreign body in the ear
  11. Otosclerosis

2. Sensorineural Hearing Loss where there is damage in the inner ear, cochlea or hearing nerve. Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea), or to the nerve pathways from the inner ear to the brain. Most of the time, SNHL cannot be medically or surgically corrected. This is the most common type of permanent hearing loss.

Causes of sensorineural hearing loss:

  1. Exposure to loud noise
  2. Head trauma
  3. Virus or disease
  4. Autoimmune inner ear disease
  5. Hearing loss that runs in the family
  6. Aging (presbycusis)
  7. Malformation of the inner ear
  8. Meniere's Disease
  9. Otosclerosis
  10. Tumors

Coping with Hearing Loss:
Antibiotics and eardrops are often prescribed to treat hearing loss and its symptoms. In many cases, people suffering from severe hearing loss use hearing aids. Hearing aids are tiny instruments that people use in their ears to make sounds louder. People who suffer from hearing loss cope with their problems through increased concentration and focus. The usual way involves reading the moving lips of the person while they talk. Prevention is better than cure and is the best solution to avoid long term hearing loss. Avoiding continuous loud noises, to the possible extent helps prevent hearing loss to a great extent. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ent Specialist.

Dear Lybrate user, If you do not have any heart related disorders, you can always relate the sting feeling to anxiety related acid reflex. Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I feel that I have digestion issues, whatever I eat after that my chest burns a lot. I just then take fizzy drink for burp and this also increasing my weight. What is this?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
This is acidity.. There are several things you can do to prevent an episode of acidity like: Avoid alcohol. Normally alcohol in moderation is well tolerated but for people prone to acidity even a small amount of alcohol can cause discomfort. Avoid smoking .The nicotine in the tobacco affects the opening and closing of the food pipe allowing back flow of the normal stomach acid into the food pipe. Eat small meals. Instead of 3 big meals, have 5 small meals every 3-4 hours. Eat slowly. Don’t sleep on a full stomach. Try to have an early dinner. Make sure there is a gap of 3 hours between your last meal and bed time. Wear loose-fitting clothes. Avoid certain known foods which cause acidity like, coffee, tea, colas, and citrus fruits, oily and spicy food. If your weight is high – losing a few kilos will reduce acidity too. Keep a gap of 2 hours between exercise and meals. Drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Try meditation and yoga to minimise daily stress.

You should take medications for atleast 3 months. If still symptoms persist or suffer from symptoms like recurrent chest infection or pneumonia then you should undergo antireflux surgery. Do not immediately lie down after meals. Stop alcohol, smoking and spicy /junk food. Raise your headend while sleeping by 45 degrees.

Hi lybrate user. It is due to irritating digestive system. At first you have to follow some basic things so that you get better results in a short period of time. 1) try to take liquid diet only for few days 2) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast and fermented foods 3) avoid late night sleeping habits. A) take 30 ml of audumbaravleha and 10 ml of honey along with 30 ml of lukewarm water, before meals half an hour. B) take half tsf of avipattikar churna and half tsf of lavanbhaaskar churna after meals. C) take 2-2 tablets of moutik yukta kamdudha ras along with daadimavleha. Do all these things for seven days and give your valuable feedback for further suggestions. Thanks.

Hello- Hot water bath is good for health if the temperature is cooler as in the hill stations. Since you belong to temperate coastal area (mumbai) it is not advisable for you sexually, to take hot water bath daily. Yes testicles are temperature sensitive and temperature greater then room temperature can arrest the sperm formation in the body.
