Why Indian Traditions Are Healthy

Why Indian Traditions Are Healthy

Indian traditions are more like the first lessons which are taught by the elders of the house. These traditions are often followed without any doubts and questions. These traditions are not just being followed for the sake of religious rituals, but have deep rooted scientific reasons associated with the same.

Some of the interpretations of these rituals are as follows:

  1. Namaste: When we greet someone or meet someone for the first time we join both our hands for Namaste. This is done out of sheer respect for the person. Doing Namaste activates the acupuncture points of the fingertips and helps us to remember the person.
  2. Ushapan: This is the practice of drinking water from a copper utensil. This helps in absorbing the extra heat of the body, thereby, maintaining the body temperature. The water should be kept overnight in the copper pot before drinking. It is believed that drinking water from a copper pot helps in bowel movement, cleaning of the stomach and creating digestive juices.
  3. Sukhasan: When one sits on the floor with crossed leg is referred to as sukhasan. For having food in this position a person has to bend while eating and has to move up and down while eating. When this happens, the stomach is pushed while bending and the back is straight before taking the next bite. This movement leads to muscular movements thereby, helping to produce digestive juices and aids in swallowing as well.
  4. Vamakukshi and Shatapawali: Vamakukshi is referred to as the afternoon nap post lunch. Sleeping on the left side helps in the digestion of the food. Though prolonged sleep can make a person lazy, a quick 10 minute nap is recommended as it allows a person to be fresh. Shatapwali means taking 100 steps, to be more appropriate it is the walk after dinner. This helps in the digestion of food as the gas created after consuming food is moved and the pressure in the chest is reduced. The above terms literally explain the famous phrase, "After lunch sleep a while, after dinner walk a mile."
  5. Ear Piercing: Though ear piercings are looked at as a fashion ornament, but as per the Hindu traditions, these help in decision making, thinking abilities and intellectual development and also to some extent an acupressure point. It is ideal to get a baby"s ear pierced by the 12th day of her birth, as it is believed that getting ears pierced early leads to acquiring the quality of minimal speech.
  6. Touching Feet of Elders: This is known as one of the best exercises as it aids in blood circulation, helps in stretching and pushing the organs, improves excretion and digestion and strengthens the physique. It is also believed to transfer an aura and positive energy from the person whose feet are being touched.

My mom is in 45 years age & suffering in menstrual period time due to heavy bleeding & blood clots, please Give us a solution.

After reaching a certain age, a woman? s ovaries stop making eggs and there is less production of hormones like estrogen and progesterone that regulate menstruation and fertility. Gradually, menstrual cycles become irregular and eventually stop. Menopause is confirmed when a woman has no period for 12 consecutive months. This process normally happens between ages 45 and 55 while going through menopause, fluctuating levels of estrogen and progesterone can cause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, tired feet, insomnia, depression, vaginal dryness, bladder problems, thinning hair, dry skin, breast pain, mood swings and memory problems. Soy soy products have also been found to be very effective in treating many menopause symptoms. The isoflavones in soy products help balance hormone levels and have some estrogenic activity. A comprehensive study by researchers at the bowman gray school of medicine in north carolina found that women who took a phytoestrogen-rich soy supplement reported a significant decrease in the severity of their hot flashes? try to drink two glasses of soy milk daily? you can also have a few slices of soy linseed bread daily? also include more soy products in your diet. 4. Vitamin e clinical studies have shown that vitamin e acts as a substitute for estrogen, in turn helping to regulate and control hot flashes. It is also known for helping reduce vaginal dryness and heart palpitations? topical application of vitamin e oil to the vagina will help improve lubrication? a daily dose of 600 ius of natural vitamin e is recommended to reduce hot flashes. Take one 200 iu capsule with every meal, for a total of three per day. Any queries inform me.

First Trimester - Things You Must Take Care of!

First Trimester - Things You Must Take Care of!

Becoming a mother is a special feeling. This can be best explained by only those women who start feeling their babies inside them from the very early stage of pregnancy. These nine months, for a mother to be would need extra care and she has to take precaution of each and every type. In the first trimester or the first three months of your pregnancy detection, you need to take certain precautions. Here are some of the ways in which you can make yourself and your baby secure during the first three months of your pregnancy.

  1. Double check your pregnancy: There have been many cases of false pregnancies during this time. It is thus best to double check that you are really pregnant so as to avoid a heart break later on. Most home tests are accurate but if you are still unsure, you might want to wait another week after taking your first test and then take a second one. Alternately, you can also go and visit a doctor and take their advice to confirm that you really are pregnant.
  2. Prenatal vitamin: Once your pregnancy has been confirmed, it is time for you to start taking your prenatal vitamins. These vitamins have enough folic acid which is required by the to-be mother to conceive. These vitamins also help in the development of the baby and protect it from developing any birth defects.
  3. Arrange for a health insurance: Medical bills can be very costly in contemporary times. Thus, if you are pregnant then it is best to start looking for health insurance schemes which cover pregnancy and delivery cost. This procedure might take sometime to finish and thus it is best to start the process in your first trimester.
  4. Choose a doctor: If you already know a doctor who specialises in delivery and pregnancy then you need not worry. But in case you do not have enough information then it is time you start looking for an experienced doctor. You can consult your friends and family members and choose a doctor whom you find appropriate for you. You should also consult a doctor by the time you are two months pregnant in order to get the necessary vaccines and other advice.
  5. Quit bad habits: Smoking, drinking and too much of coffee would damage the development of your child. Thus, you must try and quit all of them to deliver a healthy baby.

Thus, these are the five most important precautions that you need to take in your first trimester in order to ensure a healthy delivery ahead.

It can happen if you are still breast feeding. However if you have been sexually active sinc delivery I would advice you to get a urine pregnancy test done first. If negative then it is best you start a low dose pill to regularize your periods as well as an interim method of contraception.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
Got married last years April and conceived in the month of august but we didn't want child that time so have done abo...
The answers to your question are: 1. Can last abortion cause any difficulty in conceiving the child in future? yes, ststistically speaking the chances of pregnancy are reduced a bit say 10% after abortion. But in reality this may not mean that everyone has a problem. So try and see. 2. How can I recognize the ovulation period? it is highly difficult to" predict" ovulation. Its an event which happens in the body, and there are no symptoms of it. Some women can guess it from the mild pain in midcycle, or a spotting in midcycle, or excess thin white discharge at midcycle. But these are not 100% predictive of ovulation. The only test denoting ovulation is ultrasound of folicle, which is done from d9 onwards but even in a lady with regular cycles, ovulation doesnot happen each month, it happens erratically. So on a n average one can just have sex on the" fertile" days which are the most probable days to have ovulation and see. If your cycles are regualr, you can calculate the expected date of menses (edm), once this is known, count 14 days backwards, and you will get a date. Keep 3 days on either side of this date, and thus these 6 days will be the fertile days of the cycle, with high chances of ovulaiton. Have sex on these days and you would have done the best you can for becoming pregnant 3. Can a lady conceive only during ovulation time I mean a single day in a month cycle? yes. At ovulation, the female egg called ovum is liberated in the body, which goes into the fallopian tube and rests there, awaiting the sperms. This ovum has a life of 24-48 hours, and if not fertilised, it dies off. Hence the ovulation knowledge can can help a person conceive by enabling sex at the required time. 4. Can I sure will be helpful to know ovulation day, how and when can I use it? I have already answered this in the upper two questions.

After 2 years of marriage my wife cant conceive a child reports are normal. Why we are getting late?

After 2 years of marriage my wife cant conceive a child reports are normal. Why we are getting late?
Planning for your pregnancy Folic acid If you and your partner are planning to conceive, you should start taking folic acid before you get pregnant. Folic acid helps to provide the best health outcomes for your baby when it is growing. Taking folic acid daily before and during pregnancy also prevents the occurrence of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in your baby. The best time to get pregnant You?re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex within a day or so of ovulation (releasing an egg from the ovary). This is usually about 14 days after the first day of your last period. An egg lives for about 12-24 hours after it?s released. For pregnancy to happen, the egg must be fertilised by a sperm within this time. If you want to get pregnant, having sex every couple of days will mean there?s always sperm waiting in the fallopian tubes to meet the egg when it?s released.

Hi. I had taken my ivf treatment my embroys transfer was done on 2nd feb 2017 now I am 6 weeks pregnant. In transvaginal scan my doctor saw only G sac and foetal pole but no heartbeat yet. Is there something to worry after ivf.

Not to worry at present as heart beat comes at the 7 th week. Get a beta hcg twice with a difference of 48 hr. That would tell you whether pregnancy is growing or not.

I have taken amoxicillin cetrizine after that breast milk production is less. Plus suggest how to increase the production.

These medicines have no effect on production of milk. Best way to increase production, put baby on breast to suckle till breast becomes empty or baby is satisfied.

Dear Lybrate User, Irregular Periods Advice Irregular periods can be caused due to different reasons like stress, poor nutrition, sudden weight loss, excessive exercise, anorexia nervosa and the most common hormonal disturbances in women.  If you have already been told that irregularity in your periods is due to certain hormonal imbalances then to correct them is important. For example a thyroid hormone imbalance can cause menstrual irregularities when the amount of thyroid hormone is the blood is too low or high. Try the following simple tips to regularize your menstrual flow - Avoid any sudden weight changes. Eating disorders like anorexia or low nutrient stores in the body can cause irregular periods. So have a well balanced diet with whole cereals and grains, pulses, dairy products, eggs, fish, lean meat and poultry, not to forget plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid any kind of stress as far as possible as the main cause of irregular periods is stress (fear, depression, a family holiday, stress at work, relationship stress). Get moderate regular exercise as exercise like a light jog or meditation is a good way to burn the stress levels in the body. To regularize your periods drink a glass of fresh carrot juice daily on regular basis for 3 months. Asafetida, fenugreek seeds, sesame seeds and ginger also help to regularize the periods, liberally include them in your meals while cooking.  For any further clinical assistant kindly revert back to me. Thanking You.
