I have fibromyalgia and my Dr. has me on tramadol every 8 hours and it's not helping with the pain anymore, I have tried homeopathic methods and they didn't help with my pain either. Are there other options?

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
For management of fibromyalgia a group of drugs called Tricyclic Antidepressants work best. Since Tramadol is not effective in your case, a drug switch is required. Also non pharmacological treatment like exercise, acupuncture, cognitive behaviour therapy can help in addition with medicines. Consult with pain specialist in your city.

My right leg fractured and when I can walk and doctors had surged me by keeping screws and this screws when we can remove so please suggest me the answer.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Delhi
The implants (plates, screws etc.) should be removed when the fracture is healed beyond doubt. Damaged implant is an other indication for removal. Average time for wound healing after implant removal is 7-10 days.

Massage gently with mahanarayan tail daily at night for a month..Do yoga asana daily early morning...specially dhanurasana ....oily food is not good for health..u can have it once in a while...For healthy living 1. Eat a balanced diet rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins, and fat. 2.Fill your diet with a wide range of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, pulses, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and naturally low fat dairy foods. 3.Donot skip breakfast. 4.Drink plenty of fluids and water. 5.Exercise is an extremely important factor in staying healthy so try to be active. 6.Make sure you get enough sleep – it's an essential part of being healthy. While we're asleep, our bodies have that all-important time to repair.

I have knee problem. It is not continue. I face the pain at knee when go to down by stairs.

MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Chennai
Hello lybrate-user. From your symptoms I suspect you to have early wear and tear behind your knee cap bone. I would suggest you to avoid complete bending of your knees, squatting and sitting on floor. Further you should do some gentle stretches of your hamstring and calf muscles (refer to internet)

Hi my problem in my back bone (miner dislocation in l5) since last 12 years. Why I dont suffer from pain regularly?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned the word dislocation which is worrying for me as an orthopaedic surgeon because this is a term we se rarely. Anyway to understand your problem and give an opinion as to why you are not having pain is possible only if I can see your x rays or mri scans of spine. Also I think you are very young that is why you are not experiencing too much pain as of now, but let me reserve my opinion till the time I see your investigations. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I HAVE BROKEN RIB, NOW IT IS REALLY PAIN FULL. EVEN WALKING ALSO VERY very difficult. What is the way to recover it. Please say doctor?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
In most cases, you can take care of broken or bruised ribs at home. While your injury heals, pain relief is very important, as it will hurt every time you breathe in or cough. Taking shallow breaths and not coughing to avoid pain will only put you at risk of a chest infection. You can look after yourself by: -regularly taking over-the-counter painkillers, such as paracetamol -holding an ice pack to your chest regularly during the first few days to reduce the pain and swelling -resting periodically – take time off work if you need to, especially if your work involves physical labour or the pain is severe -keeping mobile between rest periods – walking around and moving your shoulders occasionally can help with your breathing and help clear any mucus from your lungs -holding a pillow against your chest if you need to cough -carrying out breathing exercises – take 10 slow, deep breaths every hour, letting your lungs inflate fully each time, to help keep your lungs clear Don't wrap a bandage tightly around your chest, as this will stop your lungs expanding properly. Try to avoid lying down or staying still for long periods. It may help to sleep more upright for the first few nights. Avoid straining and lifting heavy objects until you're feeling better, as you may injure yourself further and take longer to recover. If you smoke, stopping may also help your recovery. See a Doctor if your pain hasn't started to improve within a few weeks. Best wishes

Am having leg pain since some days and not able to climb steps like earlier. It starts paining.

COMT, CMT, Dry Needling, McKenzie Part A & Part B, NDT-Short Course
Physiotherapist,
You will have to notice whether pain disappear when you are sleeping on bed. If pain decrease then it is a mechanical pain and you will have to do back bending (extension exercise) 10 reparations every hour. If then also you are not feeling better then go for x-ray of lumber spine (ap+lat)
