All the tests are normal. That's good. Often this can happen at this age due to hormonal changes. I hope all necessary blood tests and USG (including TVS) have been done. If the problem persists, she may need to consult gynaeologist again.

Multi-Tasking Can Damage Your Brain and Career in These 3 Shocking Ways.

Multi-Tasking Can Damage Your Brain and Career in These 3 Shocking Ways.
"Multi-tasking can damage your brain and career in these 3 shocking ways.

In the present day and age, everyone’s always in a hurry. This has increased the tendency of multitasking in most people, whether it’s at their workplace, at home or while eating.
Studies have indicated that completing a single task at a time scores over multitasking and the latter even has some scary after-effects. It’s been proven that multitasking can have a huge negative influence on your brain as well as your career. Read on to find out the three ways in which multitasking is actually doing you more harm than good.

1. Your IQ level is lowered due to multitasking

Studies have revealed that multitasking can slow down your responses and even lower your IQ. A study conducted by the University of London observed a group of adults who were regularly asked to multitask. The results showed a considerable decline in the IQ level of the participants and the effects of multitasking were equated with those experienced after smoking marijuana or remaining awake all night. It was also observed that the IQ drop among some of the men resulted in them achieving IQ scores that match that of an 8-year-old child.

2. Multitasking can harm your brain

A research conducted by the University of Sussex, UK, proved that multitasking can lower your brain density in the anterior cingulate cortex (the area responsible for your emotional and cognitive control). This study analysed the MRI scans of the brains of the participants while they were multitasking (like working with multiple electronic devices). In conclusion, the researchers found out that the processes going on in the human body while interacting with multiple devices at once affect the brain’s natural structure negatively, thus hampering your ability to make wise decisions.

3. Multitasking worsens your performance at work

Studies reveal that multitasking exposes your brain to multiple streams of electronic information at once, which drastically interferes with your capacities of paying attention and remembering details.
Organizing thoughts in a proper manner also becomes difficult for people who multitask. They often fail to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant data, and show slow responses when asked to switch from one task to another. Your brain has been designed to handle and focus on only one task as a time, so if you multitask it cannot perform the multiple tasks with the same efficiency and speed. As a result, the quality of work reduces and your productivity decreases to a large extent if this continues for a long time. Moreover, multitasking can have a negative impact on your overall performance at your workplace, which can adversely impact your career in the long run.

So, if you find yourself multitasking often due to lack of time or work pressure, don’t let it turn into a regular habit. This will not only keep the quality of your work intact, but will also save you from potential brain damage.

I am suffering from giant fibroadenoma in my left breast. Can you suggest me what to do right now?

Hi, I appreciate you seeking help. As I understand, fibroadenomas, although benign, increase the chances of breast cancer. In your case especially, to be on a safer side, its advisable to remove the same surgically unless your physician advises otherwise. I would recommend that you consult a breast specialist, in person, for an expert 2nd opinion and proceed as he or she recommends you to. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best.

Managing periods
Hello,
During menstruation, women can get more stressed out and suffer from uncomfortable symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, breast tenderness, bloating, cramps, headache, food cravings and constipation or diarrhea.
By eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods can help reduce stress and lethargic and stay bright and breezy.
Avoiding certain foods during your period may help discomfort.-----
Beverages: restrict consumption of beverages such as coffee, tea and soft drinks which worsen symptoms like anxiety, depression and breast tenderness. Instead have herbal tea and plenty of water to keep body hydrated.
Salt: controlling salt consumption can help you avoid bloating and the puffy, heavy feeling that comes with it.
High-fat foods: hormone changes during the menstrual cycle shows symptoms such as bloating and breast tenderness. Avoid foods such as whole-milk dairy products, sausages, burgers, cheese.
Sugary foods: due to hormonal changes during menstruation, blood sugar levels become unstable, and many women crave sweets. Eating foods high in sugar adds to your blood sugar fluctuations resulting in mood swings, tension, lethargic, immune system imbalance and fatigue.
Recommended foods during periods:-----
Beans: the high fiber content in beans helps reduce congestion, cramps, constipation and diarrhea.
Vegetables: green vegetables are rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium and thus help prevent menstrual pains, excessive bleeding and clot the blood.
Water: water retention is one of the main causes for cramps. To reduce water retention, drink enough water.
Whole grains: eating small amounts of carbohydrates every three hours and before bed can help combat premenstrual syndrome and also reduces neuromuscular tension, fatigue and depression.
Yogurt: yogurt contains live cultures and active bacteria which promote healthy digestion and also a good source of calcium.
Take care.

What are conversion disorders?

As I have been getting a lot of questions of pain in hands/legs, headaches, irritation/pain in eyes and other with motor or sensory symptoms without any conventional medical tests showing any abnormality, I have presented below a brief description of conversion disorders.

A conversion disorder causes patients to suffer from neurological symptoms, such as numbness, blindness, paralysis, or fits without a definable organic cause. It is thought that symptoms arise in response to stressful situations affecting a patient's mental health.

Symptoms

Some of the most typical symptoms include blindness, partial or total paralysis, inability to speak, deafness, numbness, sores, difficulty swallowing, incontinence, balance problems, seizures, tremors, and difficulty walking

Impaired vision (hysterical blindness), double vision, impaired hearing (deafness) and loss or disturbance of touch or pain sensation

Causes

Symptoms arise through the power of suggestion, acting on a personality vulnerable to dissociation especially due to enforced replacement. In this hypothetical process, the subject's experience of their leg, for example, is split-off from the rest of their consciousness, resulting in paralysis or numbness in that leg which may re surface later.

Diagnosis

The exclusion of neurological disease, the exclusion of feigning, and the determination of a psychological mechanism which is associated with stressors and conflicts.

Treatment

Explanation.
Physiotherapy
Occupational therapy
Treatment of comorbid depression or anxiety if present.
Physical rehabilitation
Replacement of lost abilities suitably due to transference or loss of abilities

I got married 2 years ago. Intercourse not happened because of a small vagina and fear in her mind. After physical examination by a doctor she is suggested to undergo hymenotomy. After hearing this she don't want to go for it. Again we tried. Now it is a bit better by using tazzle 10 mg for me and KY JELLY for her. But penis not crossing the hymen. And we are not getting enough interest to start even. How to overcome this problem? Any medicine to be taken to get interest? And any medicine to break the hymen?

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Bangalore
Dear Lybrate user, Proper answer to your query can be given only after examination. It is rare for hymen to be tough. Mostly, it is psychological barrier which is responsible. One doctor has already examined. If the hymen is actually tough, Hymenotomy is the answer. Medicines will not help. You can obtain second opinion if you are doubtful. The surgery is a simple one done under anesthesia. Since the act has not been successful so far, gradually the interest wanes off.

Hello- 7 tips for losing weight after pregnancy. 1. Give diets a miss *ditch all junk food from your kitchen - studies show when you're sleep-deprived you'll be more tempted to eat it. *fill the fridge and pantry with lots of fruit and veg, lean meats, fish and seafood, whole grains (oats, grainy breads, beans, pulses), eggs, and healthy snacks like yoghurt, nuts and seeds (chia seeds for example, are great in a smoothie and a real fibre-booster). *even though you're probably short on time right now, a food diary can be a great help if you want to keep track of what you're eating. Research shows that women who monitor their eating enjoy greater weight loss than those who don't - because it makes you more mindful of what you're putting in your mouth. 2. Forget celebrity mums 3. For post pregnancy weight loss, consider breastfeeding 4. Get fit with baby 5. Get some sleep. 6. Consider a belly wrap 7. Use ayurveda use ashokaristha 2 tsp twice daily tab chandra prabha vati 1 tab twice.

Slim.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Problems related to thyroid gland which can be mostly hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism (there are others), are not curable. Treatment has to be continued for lifetime. If thyroid activity is affected then there is affection to menstrual cycle and ovulation. This affects fertility. Thanks.

What happens to our body after IUI procedure. How many days will it take for pregnancy confirmation.

What happens to our body after IUI procedure. How many days will it take for pregnancy confirmation.
Hello, IUI is a procedure wherein your ovaries are stimulated to produce 1-2 eggs and follicular monitoring is done. When your follicle is ready for ovulation, an injection is given for the same and after 1 day, the washed sperm of the spouse is directly injected inside the uterus. Pregnancy can be confirmed after 14 days of the procedure by doing a serum beta hcg test.
