Easiest and sure way of getting vitamin D is sitting in Soft sunlight for 1/2 to 1 hour for five days a week. Otherwise she can take vitamin D 3 tablets or sache after checking green mark on them.

A very practical approach I have been using for most chronic knee pain sufferers planning surgical intervention!!!! It gives amazing post op results!!
An interesting blog by David Buttler ( from whom I learnt it)!!!

" Knee replacements in the brain ? the patient?s side
Posted by David buttler.

John Barbis, aging Philadelphian PT had a bilateral knee replacement 4 months ago. I have just watched him scurry though the snow like a squirrel and run up stairs like a five year old. He can sit on his haunches and he has been doing all this for months.

John says ???I felt immediate ownership of my new knees after surgery. But I had prepared well ? more my mind than the rest of my body. I started two months before the surgery. I did left/right knee discrimination exercises 3 times a day, I visualised the surgery, I visualised the IV going in, then going under and waking up. I did lots of mindfulness , the UCLA mindfulness project. I visualised my knees moving after the surgery and I imagined how they would move much more than they did before. I imagined that I would have pain, but I reasoned that it would not be pain related to any danger to my knees. I knew medication would be available if I needed it.?

?Having seen knee replacement surgeries before was helpful. I knew they would be bending my knees full range in the operating theatre and I knew it would only be swelling and sensitivity that would limit me post-surgery and this would be temporary and a part of the healing process. I knew the only way I could hurt myself was if I fell. I visualised walking normally as soon as I woke. I only used a walker at night for a few days, but I didn?t want use it as I wanted a normal walking pattern using my arms as soon as possible?.

?The new knees were all mine as soon as I woke up and I was glad to say goodbye to the old ones. I wanted to be in total control. I didn?t want anyone pushing on my knees. There is no reason why someone else should have to push on someone?s knee to get range of motion?.

?I knew there would be nociception, I knew there would be neural flares but I knew they could be made safe. I avoided the total knee education class offered ? it was scary?

?Overall, I worked on my brain more than working on my knees?

These pain usually lasts from 6 to 12 months. So pain continuing for more then 9 years could be because of multiple joint pain or arthralgia, Exercise involving range of motion for all joint would be helpful, icing can reduce inflammation and pain. Mild pain killers etc can be recommended once meeting a oethopedican.

Take rest. This could be due to lumbar spondylosis with nerve root compression. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos you will need other supportive medicines also. Do back (spine) exercises make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you may have to use lumbosacral support for some time. Avoid painful act/activities. Considering your age and profession you might be suffering from facet joint arthritis. Facet joints connect vertebrae in our spine. With age these joints can get degeneration. Further details of your problem are needed to guide you better. You should consult a pain specialist to get diagnostic followed by therapeutic facet joint injection. This condition can be treated with injection followed by appropriate exercise and ergonomic measures.

Bone Fractures: Causes and Symptoms

Bone Fractures: Causes and Symptoms

'Fracture' is a medical term for a broken bone. According to an estimate, an average person has two fractures within their lifetime. When a force exerted is stronger than the bone itself, it can lead to a fracture. The risk and chance of fracture depend on your age. With age, bones tend to become brittle and, hence, a fall that would have been potentially harmless years ago can lead to a broken bone at a later age.

There are many types of bone fractures, but the main types are:

Closed fracture: A fracture in which the bone breaks but does not tear through the skin
Open fracture: Where the broken bone punctures through the skin and protrudes out. There's a greater chance of bone infection in an open fracture
Displaced fracture: In this type of fracture the bone snaps into more than two parts
Nondisplaced fracture: The bone cracks partly or wholly but it does continue to move

Some of the common signs and symptoms of a fracture are:

- Bruising and swelling of the bones
- Open fractures marked by protruding bones from the skin
- Loss of locomotive and functional ability of the injured area
- Deformity of the injured area
- Pain in the event of movement of the injured area

A fracture can be caused by a number of reasons, and they are:

- Injuries and accidents
- Falls and slips
- Wear and tear through overuse
- Sport injuries
- Fist fights and brawls
- Osteoporosis (a disease which causes bones to weaken in adults)
- Osteomalacia ( a disease caused due to softening of your bones, which is caused by a vitamin D deficiency.) Soft bones are more likely to bow and fracture than are harder, healthy bones.

Note - Osteomalacia is not the same as osteoporosis. Osteomalacia occurs due to a defect in the bone-building process while osteoporosis develops due to a weakening of existing bones.

Hi, with aging, body reabsorbs calcium and other minerals from your bones. This reabsorption can make your bones weaker and lead to osteopenia and osteoporosis. The bones become more vulnerable to fractures and other damage. Medication: give her homoeopathic medicine - calcarea phos. 6x/ 3 times a day for 3-4months. 10-15 minutes of sunlight exposure early in the morning 3-4times a week. Give her food rich in calcium - milk, milk products, green leafy vegetables.

It seems you are likely to be suffering from spondylosis of the spine. See a good orthopedic surgeon. After a couple of tests, he should be able to prescribe treatment.

Some times I have muscular pain in my shoulder that converts in acute headache at night. What should I do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Normally these two symptoms are no connected with each other as headache is a separate entity in itself, and if you have regular headaches, then it is wise to get yourself evaluated by a neurophysician. For your localized shoulder pain, you can start with gentle anti inflammatory medication which suits you, physical therapy with modalities initially till your pain is there, and then maybe you can switch to strengthening exercises, take adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation, give rest to your affected shoulder for few days. And let me know in few days time how you are feeling. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

Im suffering from a regular back pain I tried doing all exercise but no use. So can any 1 help me in this.
First of all check your posture when you are lifting any material like heavy bucket. And try to lift the heavy bucket without bending your back. You may lift the bucket after bending your knees only. This will definitely help you. * gentle massage with lukewarm mustard oil of your waist area will also give you relief. * surya namaskar is only exercise which you need to do. * in diet vegetable protein of cereal, b complex supplements and half teaspoon of haldi in a cup of milk for seven days will give you enough relief.

Hi lybrate-user. Most commonly the back pain is related to bad posture and lack of exercise. Meet a physiotherapist and get an advise regarding proper posture and fillow it. Try some back strengthening exercises if pain allows. If pain persists you should consult a specialist.
