It is rather unusual for such tiny infants to get pin worms. It will be better if the child is reviewed first in the clinic as the cause of itching could be something else. Only then any medication can be given to such babies.

Dietary Guidelines to include a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein foods and dairy products. When there is healthy food in the body, it is more difficult for lead to be absorbed. Make sure your diet is rich in important nutrients such as calcium, iron and vitamin C.

ADHD - Causes Behind It!

BHMS, MD - Alternate Medicine

ADHD - Causes Behind It!

ADHD or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder refers to those psychological disorders, which significantly alter a child's behavior and considerably affects his or her relationships with others. This condition is seldom preceded by perceptible symptoms and even when they do, they are difficult to decipher. However some of them are:

  1. Self-centered: Those children who suffer from the attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome tend to be encapsulated in their own subjectivity. Though this does seem harmless apparently, this tendency may lead them to be insensitive to other's needs and wants.
  2. Emotional outbursts: ADHD makes children extremely susceptible to frequent emotional outbursts and makes them erratic.
  3. Difficulty in concentration: Children who suffer from ADHD face extreme difficulty in concentrating or focusing on things. Many a times they fail to repeat what was told to them.

There might be several causes which can contribute to the development of this disorder. Some of them are:

  1. A drastic change in the child's lives: A sudden or a drastic change like the divorce of parents may severely affect the child and maim him emotionally. This may lead to the development of this disorder.
  2. Depression: Though always associated with adults, depression can be and is common among children as well. In such instances, a consequent development of ADHD is highly plausible.
  3. Bipolar disorder: Bipolar disorder refers to excessive and incomprehensible mood swings. Many children suffer from it in their early lives, making them susceptible to ADHD.

Notwithstanding the ambiguity and the erratic nature of the disorder, there might be preventive measures which parents might adopt to deter the outbreak of the disorder. Some of them are:

  1. Less use of preservatives: Parents must be careful about what their children eat. Those foods which contain a certain amount of preservatives tend to aggravate the disorder thereby causing more harm than good.
  2. Consider alternative forms of medications: Another way of dealing with this problem is by exploring other forms of medications and not sticking to one form. In this respect, practicing yoga may be very beneficial.

Heath Tip

Diploma in Paediatrics, MD (Physician)
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Make your child habitual of drinking lots of water throughout the day as it will keep his/her mind alert and will make him/her feel energetic throughout the day.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
ADHD is not fun for the child!

ADHD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a condition characterized by an inability to concentrate and sustain attention. It is a biological problem of the brain.

Due to poor concentration the child feels bored easily and may become impulsive and appear to be mischievous

He may answer out of turn and will talk even when not spoken to.

He may have difficulty sitting at one place.

He maybe restless, fidgety and jumping about.

This will hamper his ability to remember things and may become forgetful and lose things.

This is something the child does not do on purpose and feels guilty and unhappy about, making the child feel low on self-esteem which may manifest as aggressive and rebellious behavior.

Tips for the teacher and parents

1. Keep the child close to her in the classroom

2. Keep the child away from the windows

3. Shower praise when he behaves appropriately.

4. Write important information down where the child can easily read and reference it

5.Divide big assignments into smaller ones, and allow children frequent breaks.

6. Incorporate Physical movement into classroom teaching.

7. Working with interruptions:

Reducing the interruptions of children with ADD/ADHD should be done carefully so that the child’s self-esteem is maintained, especially in front of others. Develop a “secret language” with the child with ADD/ADHD. You can use discreet gestures or words you have previously agreed upon to let the child know they are interrupting. Praise the child for interruption-free conversations.

8. Dealing with Impulsivity:

Give consequences immediately following misbehavior. Be specific in your explanation, making sure the child knows how they misbehaved.

Recognize good behavior out loud. Be specific in your praise, making sure the child knows what they did right.

Write the schedule for the day on the board or on a piece of paper and cross off each item as it is completed. Children with impulse problems may gain a sense of control and feel calmer when they know what to expect.

9. Dealing with Hyperactivity:

Ask children with ADD/ADHD to run an errand or do a task for you, even if it just means walking across the room to sharpen pencils or put books away.

Encourage the child to play a sport—or at least run around before and after school.

Provide a stress ball, small toy, or other object for the child to squeeze or play with discreetly at his or her seat.

Limit screen time in favor of time for movement. Your child will enjoy fast games like Subway Surfer and Temple Run.

Make sure a child with ADD/ADHD never misses recess or PT period.

I've some questions in my mind regarding my wife and my daughter's health. My only daughter, aged 12 Yrs+ right now and she is suffering from Allergetic Childhood Bronchial Asthama since at the age of 04 Yrs. Frequently she suffers in cold and cough. Everytime when our doctor's advised for some radiological and pathological investigations, it's doesn't reveals any abnormality in the report. What should i do next to free herself from this problem? Kindly help me Sir. I am a Radiographer Technician by profession and working in a reputed Diagnostic Centre in Kolkata since for the last 15 Yrs.

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
In a case of diagnosed childhood asthma repeated xray and pathological tests are not advisable. Try to assess severity of asthma by PFT/PEAK FLOW RATE. She should take inhaled budamate 200 twice/day through spacer. There very good chest/respiratory centre at Kolkata, where you can follow her treatment. A growing child may go into remmission and may remain asymtomatic for long.

Delivered baby on 1st. Flat nipples. Baby not latching on. Using nipple shield. Is it ok to use nipple. Shield.

Delivered baby on 1st. Flat nipples. Baby not latching on. Using nipple shield. Is it ok to use nipple. Shield.
Hi welcome to lybrate first of all. Congratulations on the birth of your baby! flat nipples is a common problem. Simple technique is to use a nipple retractor or a nipple puller that's available in medical shops or in mom n kids store. Every time before breastfeeding your baby if you use that retractor, gradually the nipples ll be normal enough for the baby to latch on easily.
