I HAVE BROKEN RIB, NOW IT IS REALLY PAIN FULL. EVEN WALKING ALSO VERY very difficult. What is the way to recover it. Please say doctor?

In most cases, you can take care of broken or bruised ribs at home. While your injury heals, pain relief is very important, as it will hurt every time you breathe in or cough. Taking shallow breaths and not coughing to avoid pain will only put you at risk of a chest infection. You can look after yourself by: -regularly taking over-the-counter painkillers, such as paracetamol -holding an ice pack to your chest regularly during the first few days to reduce the pain and swelling -resting periodically – take time off work if you need to, especially if your work involves physical labour or the pain is severe -keeping mobile between rest periods – walking around and moving your shoulders occasionally can help with your breathing and help clear any mucus from your lungs -holding a pillow against your chest if you need to cough -carrying out breathing exercises – take 10 slow, deep breaths every hour, letting your lungs inflate fully each time, to help keep your lungs clear Don't wrap a bandage tightly around your chest, as this will stop your lungs expanding properly. Try to avoid lying down or staying still for long periods. It may help to sleep more upright for the first few nights. Avoid straining and lifting heavy objects until you're feeling better, as you may injure yourself further and take longer to recover. If you smoke, stopping may also help your recovery. See a Doctor if your pain hasn't started to improve within a few weeks. Best wishes

Hi. I am 65 years old lady and my weight is around 90+ kgs. I am having a serious problem with my both knees. It has a huge pain in it. I have consulted many doctors and they have suggested me for knee replacement. But at this age and this much if weight the operation might not be 100% successful. I am very confused whether should I go for the operation or not? I am from delhi and also taking homeopathic treatment on daily basis. I could not able to walk properly due ti heavy pain. Please suggest and help me.

Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings. This will relieve your problem. Press the point on the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from toe in the foot 20 times by pressing and releasing with a blunt edge of a pen. Further rotate your foot clockwise and anticlockwise 10 times. Massage your leg with both hands. Pl consult after a week.

I have pain in my sciatica nerves I am on medicine even I have consulted physiotherapist. One say to do hot water pack massage and one says ice pack. Which should I go for?

My wrist is paining. I exercise daily. Sometimes extra bone or muscle I can feel on wrist. Kindly advise.

Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

I'm 57yrs old suffering from knee pain from past 1 months occurs during walking and climbing staircase.No problem while sitting or just standing. I got operated thigh bone due to fracture because of which couldn't walk properly from past 4 months. I vistied doctors in my place. They suggested for x-ray and then doctor advised due to not walking much. The knee bone has been degenerated. Only solution is to walk more. I am doing so but no improvement. Could you please suggest any alternative medicine I can try.

Hello lybrate-user, sitting in one posture for a long time is always a reason for pain and discomfort. You can try doing stretching for back every hour. You could do back strengthening exercises at home. You could do one leg raises and hip bridging while holding for 15 to 30 seconds. Any band will give a temporary relief. Try correcting the way you sit and make sure the desk and chair are at a comfortable height. Take care.

Hi my aunt, got diagnosed with diabetes last saturday and she is having pain in legs from long time so we consult doctor and found sugar level on 355 on saturday and 325 on monday. Could you please suggest what can be done here to bring down the sugar level in body as the doctor to whom we are consulting is just prescribing medicine and there is no significant change in situation so far?

I think your aunt require immediate medical attention. First of all her sugar levels must be kept normal either by insulin or any other medicine prescribed by your doctor. Consult an endocrinologist. Thyroid is a butterfly shaped organ which is located in the neck region and produces thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones have far implicating effects on our body and regulate our bmr ie basal metabolic rate. It is simply stated as the energy required to carry on the basal or basic functioning of the body. For eg our body requires energy for digestion and for digestion our intestines have to undergo peristalsis which is the movement of intestines to absorb nutrients from intestines. This energy is regulated by thyroid. So an important symptom of thyriod dysfuction is related to this basal function. If your thyroid underperforms ie hypo thyroidism then you are constipated but if it overperforms ie hyper thyroid then you get frequent loose stools. This explains the effect on only one aspect of body functions but thyroid has multiple effects in multitude of ways on our body. The trick is to just keep it right. Neither hyper nor hypo. Your reports points you are hypothyroid. But you need another test called anti tpo to confirm this. Your hair fall is linked to hypothyroidism. Hope this helps.
