Urinary Tract Infection - Causes And Symptoms!

Infection caused in the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra or prostate gland is known as urinary tract infection(UTI). According to doctors, sexually active women are generally more at risk of suffering from this condition. Females other than sexually active age group and men are otherwise immune for urinary tract infections. If they got UTI, they should be thoroughly investigated for its cause by a urologist.

Some of the causes which contribute to the development of this infection are:

  1. Females have short urethra: Due to the short length of the urethra, a lot of bacteria got entry into the urinary bladder from the vagina, during sexual intercourse. Therefore, it is wise for females to urinate after intercourse so that bacteria flush out in urine. If not, these bacteria will lead to UTI.
  2. Prostatitis is very common in young males: Infection of the prostate gland is very common in young males. Semen is naturally produced. If a young male does not ejaculate regularly, this stocked up semen leads to prostatitis. That’s why regular ejaculation is very important for males. Therefore, Masturbation is healthy, not harmful.
  3. Urination after ejaculation in males is harmful: If male urinates immediately after ejaculation, then some urine refluxes into the open mouth of prostate glands. Urinary chemicals cause prostatitis. Therefore, males should not void immediately after ejaculation.
  4. Phimosis: In male children, if prepuce does not open properly, it may cause infection.
  5. Unprotected sexual intercourse: Unprotected intercourse may transmit infections to the other partner if one partner has got the infection.

Other common reasons

  1. Uncontrolled diabetes
  2. Kidney, ureteric and bladder stones
  3. Prostate Enlargements
  4. Urethral stricture
  5. Congenital disorders in children

Some of the symptoms of urinary tract infection are:

  1. A nagging urge to urinate: One of the most predominant symptoms of urinary tract infection is a persistent, nagging urge to urinate.
  2. There is a burning sensation when you urinate: If you feel a burning sensation while urinating, chances are extremely high that you are suffering from urinary tract infection.
  3. Red colored urine: Sometimes your urine may contain a perceptible amount of blood in them.
  4. Foul smelled urine: An internal infection in the urinary tract manifests itself in different ways. One of the chief symptoms of this infection is discharging foul smelling urine.
  5. Pain in the pelvic area: Women who suffer from urinary tract infection experience excruciating pain near the pelvic area, sometimes extending to the pubic bone.
  6. Fever with chills: Severe infection may lead to fever with chills and rigors.
  7. Frequent urge for urination: Frequent urination may be a sign of infection.

If bladder is full then externally we should be putting a catheter and if there is no collection of urine in the bladder than we should admit her in a hospital.

Sir, I am suffering from anal pain in right side of rectum since 8 years. I have been treated by many Doctors. They checked me and almost every doctor said there is not any major problem. I did tests as well its test did a surgeon doctor at his clinic with an instrument with a small bulb attached and checked my anal rectum and he said me that you have an anal fissure. I take antibiotics too almost every doctor gave me antibiotics and said me the same statement, (anal fissure). In previous year I met a consultant doctor at state hospital srinagar he advised me to do a colonoscopy. I did the same and produced to the same consultant and he said me that there is nothing any serious problem. A small hemorrhoid was in report. He gave me ointment namely dobesoft and Dilgel. After that everything was right. But couple of weeks again I am suffering from same. One doctor said me take lot of fluid and don't smoke. Consultant too advise me the same. And unfortunately I am a chain smoker. Now please advise me what to do I am tense and confused. Please sir again please give the suggestion as well as advise please. That will be your kindness.

Respected lybrate-user hi if you don't quit smoking never expect of any recovery from any doctor on the earth. You have to take decision right away if you want to continue to suffer with smoking or you want a better life with good health. Take plenty of liquids green leafy veg fiber fruits curd for better digestion & avoid hard stools. Avoid all oily spicy nonveg stuffs totally. Apply xylocaine (5) jelly over anal part after passing stool & having sitz bath (sitting in tub filled with leuk warm water for 10-10 min mor & eve). Isabgul powder 3 teaspoonful at night with glass of leuk warm water for 15 days. Can consult after 15 days if stopped smoking totally dear thanks regards.

I have itchy anus condition where I scratch it till the skin starts burning. Usually itchy every 12 hours, not regularly. Other problems I have are gastric and itchy problems near groin area.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
Moisture from sweat or diarrhea may cause itching. If theanal skin stays wet, the skin begins to break down. Infections such as pinworms, yeast, and genital warts can cause itching. Hemorrhoids, which cause painful swelling of blood vessels in the anal area, can cause itching.
