My wife and me had unprotected sex on the very next day her menses ended. We are worried about pregnancy? Is that safe time or she can get pregnant?

It is highly unlikely that you would get pregnant with sex immediately after menses as ovulation occurs much later, but still possibility can not be ruled out as sperms can in rare situation live upto 7 days and ovulation can occur early. So it is better to take i-pill immediately to avoid un-necessary complications. To calculate safe period you can use following calender method but it is highly unreliable as it has high chance of failure. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26days) minus18days=8th day. The longest cycle (31days) minus 10days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period. That is UNSAFE PERIOD during which you should not have it. Period other than this fertile period in a menstrual cycle is considered as SAFE PERIOD.

Hello, You have not mentioned for how long you are not having your periods. Sometime periods can stop due to anxiety arising out of change of place which seems to be in your case. If you are not sexually wait for some time you will have your periods. If you dont have periods even after 2 to 3 months then get you thyroid profile and consult with result.

My friend recently had mastalgia. It stayed for one day and she had mastalgia on only right side breast. She has stretch marks her both breast. Her breasts are bit asymmetrical where the right breast is a bit larger probably 0.5 cm down than another one. She is 19 years old. Is there a chance of her being a victim of breast cancer?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology, Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (FRSTM & H)
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, I will suggest that it is better to get a breast examination done by a qualified factor. She is young and I do not expect cancer but we should not take chance and get a check up done.

If semen blood or vaginal fluid enters then we will know it or not? Or it directly enters without our knowing? Because penis was dry after removing the condom. Dint feel any liquid going in. Can it break the condom and enter inside without our knowledge?

Dear user. Semen blood or vaginal fluid enters then you should know it. Penis could not be dry after removing the condom if there was ejaculation even though the condom broke and everything spilled inside the vagina. In your case, I suspect, there was no ejaculation at all. Take care.

Its been 40 days I had unprotected sexual activity. I gave blow job to a transgender without protection and my sperms came out in his mouth. If he have hiv and if he has cut or bleeding problem in his mouth then it can damage my sperms which came out of my penis. But is it possible to transfer hiv to me from the hole of my penis? I didn't have any cuts or hurt on my penis and skin.

In such condition there is very very rare chances but yes chances are there of getting HIV if the partner has HIV infection. You can get HIV test done for confirmation. Thanks.

Conditions When You Should Avoid Sex During Pregnancy

MS- Gynaecology, MBBS

Conditions When You Should Avoid Sex During Pregnancy

Love making during pregnancy is less talked about because it is a customary to distance pregnant ladies from intimacy. Many women even find it very uncomfortable to have sex during the pregnancy period as their body gets bigger. However, there are other ways you and your partner can opt for to satisfy your needs like caressing, holding each other and kissing. There are some partners who feel sex during pregnancy is the best moment for sex, while there are others who are feared and have their own concerns.

Sex During Pregnancy
Sex during pregnancy should be avoided. If at all done should be gentle, it should avoid pressing abdomen. However, it is safe in second trimester if woman is comfortable. Yes, it is alright for partners to have sex from second trimester onwards, if the woman has had a healthy pregnancy.  This is because the thick mucus plug which seals the cervix in pregnant women safeguards the baby against any infection. The strong muscles of the uterus as well as the amniotic sac, keep the little one safe in the womb. NO damage can be caused by the penis of your partner to the baby while having sex. Women can feel some movement of their baby after orgasm. Couples need not worry about the baby, as in no case it would provide discomfort to the baby. The chances of having a premature baby are reduced at times by having sex regularly.

Conditions to Avoid Sex

  1. The conditions in pregnancy when it is better to avoid sex mainly include times when any spotting or bleeding occurs during early pregnancy. In such a case, the Doctors advise not to have sex for at least 14 weeks.
  2. Your doctor may even advise a pregnant woman not to have sex if she has a history of cervical illness, has had heavy bleeding, had a vaginal infection, and in case of low lying placenta.
  3. Pregnant woman experiencing frequent abdominal pain or cramps must also avoid sex during their pregnancy.

Sexual Behavior to Avoid During Pregnancy

  1. There are 2 ways that are not safe and must be avoided while having sex during pregnancy. The first way is oral sex. Any pregnant woman must not allow their spouse to blow air into the vaginal region. Blowing air into the vagina can cause air embolism, and this can be potentially serious for the mother as well as the baby.
  2. Pregnant women should not have sex with partners who have unknown sexual history as there are chances that he is infected with sexually transmitted diseases like HIV or Herpes. The diseases can be easily transmitted to the baby if you have sex with such a partner. It is better to avoid any complications and stay away from sex during the pregnancy period.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Hi lybrate-user there are many factors which make it difficult to get pregnant. Two of them can be thyroid disorders and increased prolactin levels. Both of these get corrected by proper medication. In my practise I give my patients the medications and recheck the hormone levels after 6 weeks. Thanks.
