Viral Diseases - How Do They Spread?

General Physician, Bangalore
Viral Diseases - How Do They Spread?

Caused by the microorganisms called viruses, infections pertaining to these microorganisms are known as viral diseases. These diseases are different and diverse in nature as they are caused by a number of viruses. Among them, the common cold is the most known viral disease and occurs due to the infection of your upper respiratory tract, namely the nose and throat.

Other widespread viral infections are:

  1. Chickenpox
  2. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)
  3. HPV (human papillomavirus)
  4. Shingles or herpes zoster (a viral infection that leads to the development of rash)
  5. Viral pneumonia (a condition that occurs due to viruses that are responsible for flu and colds)
  6. Viral hepatitis (inflammation of the liver that is caused by a virus)
  7. Viral meningitis (viral infection wherein inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain occurs)
  8. Rubella, mumps and measles
  9. Herpes

How do they spread?

These diseases are infectious and can easily spread from one person to another. When the microorganism enters your body, it begins to reproduce.

Different ways that they can spread include:

  1. Breathing in the germs present in airborne droplets when an infected person sneezes or coughs
  2. Coming in contact with the body fluids of an infected person during sexual activity
  3. Indirect contact with these microorganisms when you touched inanimate objects handled by an infected person
  4. Viral infections can also spread through insect bites. Certain germs depend on insects as carriers such as ticks and mosquitoes for moving from host to host
  5. Having virus-contaminated water or food is another way in which viral infection can spread from person to person. Such a mode of transfer enables the virus to spread among a large number of people. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

How ADHD May Affect Your Sexual Health

Graduate in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery ( GAMS )
Sexologist, Delhi
How ADHD May Affect Your Sexual Health

ADHD, which stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a chronic brain condition that leads to difficulty in prolonging attention on to a single thing, impulsiveness and hyperactivity. Though it mostly affects children and teenagers, it often continues into adult life as well, and can pose serious issues in adult lives - specially in maintaining jobs and relationships.

Effects of ADHD on your sex life:

  • Impulsivity: If you are suffering from ADHD, it is highly probable that you are often very impulsive in nature - and are susceptible to taking a number of risky decisions, such as unprotected sex.
  • Attention-deficit problems: Since your thoughts are often jumping from one thought to the other, you will find it very difficult to actually concentrate on any single job at hand. Since sex requires attention and use of judgment, distractions can prove to be detrimental to a healthy sex life.
  • Hyper-sexuality: This refers to the condition of an unnaturally high sex drive. It is basically caused by the stimulation of the brain by the release of endorphins during sexual arousal, which often leads to calmness and relaxes the restlessness that is otherwise so common to ADHD patients.
  • Hypo-sexuality: This is exact opposite of hypersexuality. This condition refers to an unnaturally low sex drive, where you may often lose all interest in sexual activity completely. Often, this is a product of ADHD itself, but it can also be attributed to being a side effect of a certain type of medication, especially anti-depressants.
  • Other disorders: Women suffering from ADHD have been known to have difficulties in achieving orgasm, often in spite of prolonged sexual stimulation. Also, if you are suffering from ADHD, you may also tend to be hypersensitive - which implies, something that feels pleasurable to your partner, may be painful or irritating for you.

Suggested Treatments:

Certain suggested treatments for improving the sex lives of people suffering from ADHD are:

  • Including variety in sexual activity, such as different locations, positions etc.
  • Communication, which proves very beneficial in combating intimacy issues
  • Prioritize, and try to stay in the moment and not zone out, if you are suffering from ADHD disorders

HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES FLUOFIN or ADEL 15 DROPS ( ADEL) Drink 15 drops in 20 ml fresh water 3 times daily LEUCONA-F ( R.S.BHARGAWA) Take 2 spoons twice daily Report after 3 months Amla or Indian gooseberry helps to cure leucorrhoea. Take 3 grams amla powder and 6 grams honey, mix them to make a paste and take it two times a day for 30 days. Take 20 grams amla juice mixed with ½ tea spoon honey for one month for positive result. Basil or tulsi has marvellous medicinal value. It has the power to cure several diseases and it can also prevent many ailments. You can use tulsi to cure leucorrhoea in many ways. Mix the juice of basil leaves and honey in equal proportion and take it in the morning and evening for two weeks. Mix 1 tea spoon tulsi juice with 1/2 tea spoon cumin powder and consume it with cow’s milk for three weeks. Take tulsi juice with crystallized sugar (Mishri). Medical care is necessary in the case of acute infection. It may become chronic if proper care is not taken to deal with the problem. Leucorrhoea is related to increased stress level and a sedentary life style. You must follow a regular exercise regimen and keep yourself occupied in some creative or constructive activity to maintain physical fitness and to reduce stress. Eat a healthy dietconsisting of fresh vegetables like cucumber, spinach, tomato, radish, onion, carrots etc. Add fresh fruits and especially citrus fruits in your daily diet to maintain good health. Eat yogurt and avoid milk for some time till the discharge is severe. Avoid fried foods and reduce the consumption of tea and coffee as they cause irritation and burning in the genitals

5 Ways to Cultivate Self-Awareness

B.A. Hons . Psychology, MA Psychological Counseling, EDM Psychological Counseling, Trauma Specialist, MPhil Clincal Psychology

5 Ways to Cultivate Self-Awareness

Self-awareness (sometimes also referred to as self-knowledge or introspection) about understands your own needs, desires, failings, habits, and everything else that makes you tick. The more you know about yourself, the better you are at adapting life changes that suit your needs.

Why does self-awareness matter?

Self-awareness is the key cornerstone to emotional intelligence, according to daniel goleman. The ability to monitor our emotions and thoughts from moment to moment is key to understanding ourselves better, being at peace with who we are and proactively managing our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

In addition, self-aware people tend to act consciously rather than react passively, to be in good psychological health and to have a positive outlook on life. They also have greater depth of life experience and are more likely to be more compassionate to themselves and others.

5 ways to cultivate self-awareness:

1. Create some space for yourself. When you are in a dark room without windows, it is fairly difficult to see things clearly. The space you create for yourself is that crack on the wall where you allow light to come through. Leave yourself some time and space every day – perhaps first thing in the morning or half an hour before sleep when you stay away from the digital distractions and spend some time with yourself, reading, writing, meditating, and connecting with yourself.

2. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the key to self-awareness. Jon kabat-zinn defines mindfulness as “paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally”. Through mindfulness practice, you will be more present with yourself so that you can “be there” to observe what’s going on inside and around you. It is not about sitting cross-legged or suppressing your thoughts. It is about paying attention to your inner state as they arise. You can practice mindfulness at any time you want, through mindful listening, mindful eating or walking.

3. Keep a journal: writing not only helps us process our thoughts but also makes us feel connected and at peace with ourselves. Writing can also create more headspace as you let your thoughts flow out onto paper. Research shows that writing down things we are grateful for or even things we are struggling with helps increase happiness and satisfaction. You can also use the journal to record your inner state. Try this at home –choose a half day on a weekend, pay close attention to your inner world – what you are feeling, what you are saying to yourself, and make a note of what you observe every hour. You may be surprised about what you write down!

4. Practice being a good listener. Listening is not the same as hearing. Listening is about being present and paying attention to other people’s emotions, body movement and language. It is about showing empathy and understanding without constantly evaluating or judging. When you become a good listener, you will also be better at listening to your own inner voice and become the best friend of yourself.

5. Gain different perspectives: ask for feedback. Sometimes we can be too afraid to ask what others think of us – yes sometimes the feedback may be biased or even dishonest but you will be able to differentiate them from real, genuine and balanced feedback as you learn more about yourself and others. Research has shown conducting 360 degree feedback in workplace is a useful tool to improve managers’ self-awareness. We all have blind spots, so it is helpful to gain different perspective to see a fuller picture of ourselves.

Self-awareness, as “arguably the most fundamental issue in psychology, from both a developmental and an evolutionary perspective”, is a rich and complicated subject. As human beings, we may never fully understand ourselves, if there is such a destination. But perhaps it is the journey of exploring, understanding and becoming ourselves that makes life worth living.

Position important nahi hai jahan tak aadmi ka semen vagina me jata hai. Ek mahine me hi pregnancy chahiye voh jyada se jyada test tube beby me hai vo bhi 40 %. Pregnancy rakhne me dhiraj chahiye kyon ki ek hi din mahine me chance hota hai. Aapke ke cycle ke hisab se kabhi vo apne gynaecologist ko pucho. Hope you are feeding her. Babies fed on mother's milk rarely fall sick. Remember the baby was surrounded by a sterile environment while you carried her for 9 months at 37 degree temperature. Hygiene & temperature are very important. Daily bath, soft cotton clothes with no synthetics. I am not for synthetic diapers too, keep them for outside (if you have to go out otherwise avoid) use cotton diapers only. No water is needed or top feeds. Stomach is tiny, feeding has to be every 2 hours which gradually increase to 3 hours and at 3 months babies do give a gap of 4-5 hours. Avoid too many visitors as infection risk is high. Maintain temperature of ac around 30, not lower. About you- eat a high protein food like milk, curds, nuts, pure ghee, butter but no junk food. Eat food which promote lactation- dates, ajwain, jeera, heeng & lots of water. Weight of baby increases to double the birth weight at 3 months when the neck of baby is settled and stable. If birth weight is 3 kg, expect the baby to be 6 kgs at 3 months and 10 kgs at 1 year. Do ask about other doubts. I presumed that you are feeding & no solids before 5 months.

Cramp is normal during 7 week of pregnancy because your body is adjusting to your ever growing uterus. So, don't worry about any other complication. If, reports of ultrasound is normal. You should wait for 12 weeks, it will subside it self.

It's my 9th of pregnancy but I have a itchiness all over the body I don't know what to do next please help me.
Itching is common in pregnancy. ... Later on, as your bump grows, the skin of your tummy (abdomen) is stretched and this may also feel itchy. However, itching can be a symptom of a liver condition called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), also known as obstetric cholestasis (OC). Do talk to your gynecologist. Take care.
