Your Pain is Chronic if it Falls Under These 4 Types of Chronic Pain Disorders!

MD - Anaesthesiology
Anesthesiologist, Delhi
Your Pain is Chronic if it Falls Under These 4 Types of Chronic Pain Disorders!

When is your pain chronic?

Your pain is chronic if it last for more than a period of six months. Chronic pain is a long-term pain whose nature can vary from mild to excruciating, and it may trouble you either continuously or at short and regular intervals. Chronic pain is so dangerous that it does not only cause discomfort and inconvenience but also robs you entirely of your capacity to work for a long time.

Chronic pain can occur in a number of organs of the human body like head, joints, back, shoulders, neck etc. In fact, pain in any part of your body can turn into chronic pain. Here are a few symptoms that can help you identify if what you are going through is, in fact, chronic pain:

- persistent and severe body pain

- burning sensation accompanied by the body pain

- fatigue and sleeplessness

- weak immune system

- stiff and sore joints

The 4 types of chronic pain disorders that you should be aware of are:

1. Nociceptive pain

The pain that affects the soft tissues of the body such as the skin and the muscles or the organs that have sensory nerves present in them is called nociceptive pain. The sensory nerves, known as nociceptors can detect the stimuli of pain and send information to the brain and the spinal cord for interpretation. The pain could be either somatic (originating in the outer body) or visceral (originating in the internal organs).

2. Neuropathic pain

This pain is caused when the nerves stop functioning normally. It is caused due to nerve disturbances that result in pain stimuli being spontaneously transmitted to the brain and spinal cord. If you are suffering from this type of chronic pain disorder, you will feel a sharp, shooting and stabbing pain. Neuropathic pain can also be caused due to the formation of neuroma (abnormal growth of the nerve tissue).

3. Psychogenic pain

The pain that is caused by psychological disorders like depression and anxiety is known as psychogenic pain. Sometimes this pain can be accompanied by physical complications like fatigue, body pain and muscle weakness.

4. Idiopathic pain

The pain that exists even though there is no physical or psychological cause for it is known as idiopathic pain. This pain is more common in people who have suffered from a pre-existing painful disorder. Some common examples of idiopathic pain are fibromyalgia (intense pain all over the body) and tmj disorders (pain in the jaw area).

If I kiss and lick my wife vagina. Will it be harmful to me. Because bacteria ror fungus might be present there. Some secretions from vagina also can go in my mouth. Please tell.

BHMS
Homeopath, Sindhudurg
Pussy sucking may be harmful for you in two regards. One that if its not in hygenic condition then it may harm you with infection. The second one is due to the fact that licking is super exciting for any female up there, it may reduce the pleasure and sensation while having sex. Its like when we don't touch a place in our body, it is more sensitive and if used again and again, the sensitivity decreases. For this reason it might be harmful for you in future that you may not be able to bring her to orgasm/or same leve of satisfaction with orgasm without your tongue so take due care for that, once in a while it can be considered good but not always. By washing its actually a benefit, and no harm accrues to either her or you.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction - What is the Best Way to Treat it?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Yamunanagar
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction - What is the Best Way to Treat it?

In medical terms, the pelvic floor refers to a group of muscles in the pelvic area. These muscles provide support to the organs in the pelvic region, including the bladder, uterus (women), prostate (men) and rectum.

What is pelvic floor dysfunction?
This is a medical condition that is used to refer to a situation when you are unable to control the functioning of the pelvic floor. It means you fail to control the bowel movement. People suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction use these muscles to contract rather than to relax. It is for this reason that they cannot have a bowel movement. They often have an incomplete one.

What causes pelvic floor dysfunction?
In most of the cases, the exact reason behind this dysfunction is unknown. It is often believed that this condition is caused due to traumatic injuries to the pelvic area. This can happen after an accident and due to complications aroused after vaginal childbirth.

What are the symptoms?
There are several symptoms that are linked to this medical condition. You must visit your doctor if you come across the following signs:

  1. The feel of having several bowel movements within a short period of time.
  2. If you feel that you cannot complete a bowel movement.
  3. When there is constipation pain linked with bowel movements.
  4. A frequent urge to urinate.
  5. Painful urination.
  6. Pain in lower back.
  7. Continuous pain in pelvic region, genitals, or rectum.
  8. Pain during intercourse in women

How is pelvic floor dysfunction diagnosed?
It may be diagnosed through a physical examination by the doctor. You will ask several questions to know the case history and find out the cause. You may also be asked to take pelvic muscle control test by placing surface electrodes on the perineum or sacrum. A small device called a perineometer is also used for the same.

What are the best ways for treating pelvic floor dysfunction?
It can be treated without surgery. There are several techniques. Some of these are as follows:

  1. Biofeedback: It is done with the help of a physical therapist. He uses special sensors to watch and monitor the muscles.
  2. Medication: A low-dose muscle relaxant is prescribed to treat the same.
  3. Relaxation techniques: Your therapist may ask you to take up techniques for relaxation such as warm baths, yoga, and exercises.
  4. Surgery: If your physician finds out that the dysfunction is caused by a rectal prolapse or rectocele, he or she will take up surgery.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction results in Urinary Dysfunction. Urinary incontinence is the unintentional passing of urine. It's a common problem thought to affect millions of people. There are several types of urinary incontinence, including:

  1. Stress Incontinence – when urine leaks out at times when your bladder is under pressure; for example, when you cough or laugh
  2. Urge Incontinence – when urine leaks as you feel a sudden, intense urge to pass urine, or soon afterwards
  3. Overflow Incontinence (chronic urinary retention) – when you're unable to fully empty your bladder, which causes frequent leaking
  4. Total Incontinence – when your bladder can't store any urine at all, which causes you to pass urine constantly or have frequent leaking

It's also possible to have a mixture of both stress and urge urinary incontinence.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is a condition in which structures such as the uterus, rectum, bladder, urethra, small bowel, or the vagina itself may begin to prolapse, or fall, out of their normal positions. Without medical treatment or surgery, these structures may eventually fall farther into the vagina or even through the vaginal opening if their supports weaken enough. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist and ask a free question.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Gargling with warm salt water is an effective way to treat a sore throat. Salt can even help kill the bacteria or virus causing pharyngitis. 1. Mix three teaspoons of salt (preferably sea salt) in two cups of warm water. 2. Gargle with this solution. Do not swallow it. Spit the water out after gargling. 3. Do this several times daily for one to two days.

What are the symptoms of human immune deficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome and what to do prevent from this.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
When someone gets infected with hiv, there will be transient symptoms of viral infection like fever, sore throat, neck node swellings, but they will subside by themself in 1 month and then patient will remain asymptomatic for a long time ranging from 5 years to 10 years. The virus in between this period will continue damaging the body's immune system, and when the damage is increasing the patient starts getting different types of infections in various organs of body. These infections many times are caused by such organisms which usually do not cause disease in otherwise healthy person, so they are called opportunistic infections (i. E. Infections see an opportunity and occur in body when the immunity is low). When the immune system is too low and pt gets serious infections that stage is called aids. They hiv spreads through blood and body fluids. So best way to prevent is to prevent contact of blood or body fluids from a patient. Measures such as safe sexual practices, avoiding contaminated blood transfusion, not using already used needles and syringes, and ways to prevent mother to child transmission in womb can prevent the spread of hiv.

I have suffering from piles for 12 days so please told me about to solve this disease.

M.D.MEDICINE
General Physician, Rajkot
Hi lybrate-user. It is important to first confirm it as piles. And if it is piles it is important to assess which degree of piles it is. 1st degree, 2nd degree or 3rd degree etc. More the degree more the severity. And the specific treatment depends on the degree of piles. It is advisable that you consult a surgeon doctor for complete check up as in some cases piles may cause bleeding and it may lead to anemia. Take care.
