Sir, my son is 3 years old, male, weight 15 KGS, height 3 ft. Giving him only normal food, and drinks pediasure. Pls doctor suggest some drinks and healthy food for his brain development. Someone said infantgrow A+ is very good for brain development. Pls help.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
Your child is perfectly heathy for his age. There is no need to give commercial food or drink but freshly prepared home made cereals. Never ever go by tall claims of these baby food manufacturers. They are expensive and never ever better than home made preparation tailored to need test texture of food. Best wishes.

There is no medicine known to increase brest milk production. It is controlled by a complex mechanism of touch & pressure of breast leading to chain of harmones production resulting in breast milk secretion. In short it is demand & supply mechanism, more a child sucks more he gets Exclusive.Breast feed your child at least for first5-6 months. You can express milk if child is unable to take due to any reason to ensure constant supply.

WHAT IS THE PROPER TREATMENT FOR TUBERCULOSIS IN STOMACH ? WHETHER IT IS FULLY CURABLE ? HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES TO CURE ? IS THERE IN MEDICINE IN AYURVEDA / HOMEOPATH FOR THE SAME ?

MD
Pediatrician, Secunderabad
It is 100% curable. With allopathic medicines (in most caes) time is 9 month in a new uncomplicated case there would be medicines in ayurveda and homeo also. But i personally dont advice to go for those medicine. Its a serious illness. Get treatment for it seriouslyy otherwise you will face serious problms. Try ayurveda and homeo for common cold or seasonal itching or constipation but for serious illness absolute no.

It is normal. You may give all items but not in a day. Give him one item for 2 to 3 days and then switch over to other item gradually.

Hi my son 2.5 months only. Her Navel has extended/swollen since last 15-20 days. She also spit out milk many a times a day even after burping. Pls help.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS

Hi my son 2.5 months only. Her Navel has extended/swollen since last 15-20 days.
She also spit out milk many a times...
Swollen naval may be because of outpouching of intestinal content from naval gap, it may be subsides itself if there is no sign of obstruction as green/yellow vomiting, pain at the site. If not nothing to worry give domastal drop 8-10 drops three times a day for 2-3 days or consult nearby pediatrician.

Did my baby's weight has increased too much in my 30 weeks pregnancy. Can that cause discomfort in chest.

Did my baby's weight has increased too much in my 30 weeks pregnancy. Can that cause discomfort in chest.
Hi, certainly, rapid growth in the baby can lead to pressure in the chest and gerd (reflux). You should try to take small frequent meals, and avoid spicy foods. Also, sleep with a slightly raised head and neck position. Taking medicines after talking to your doctor may help as well. Please get back for specific advice, warm regards.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)

Any child diagnosed with epilepsy needs proper medication. Precautions, like no late nights regular nutritious diet and exercise will help. You must not miss the medication. For a ketogenic diet can be started only after a metabolic work up of the child is done.

6 Common Ear Problems in Children

MBBS, MS - ENT, DNB
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
6 Common Ear Problems in Children

The ear is made up of three parts that is outer, middle and the inner part. Infections, disorders and ailments in the ear can occur across all age groups and in any part of the ear. Ear ailments are more common in children than in adults as the Eustachian tubes (tubes which drain out ear fluid) are smaller in children.

Here are a few common ailments which occur in children:

  1. Acute otitis media: AOM is the most common ear infection in children. Some parts of the middle ear are infected, resulting in swelling and blockage of fluid behind the eardrum. This condition is characterised by earache in children and in graver conditions, can also cause fever.
  2. Otitis media with effusion: This condition usually occurs due to the infestation of an infection when the fluid gets restricted behind the ear drum. This condition doesn’t exhibit too many symptoms except mild earache. You should consult an ENT specialist who can diagnose this condition by checking the concentration of fluid behind the eardrum using special instruments.
  3. Chronic otitis media with effusion: This condition occurs in children when the fluid remains trapped behind the eardrum for a long period of time. It can lead to serious infection and can cause hearing problem in children.
  4. Barotrauma: Barotrauma occurs due to changes in atmospheric pressure changes. It can cause problems in the Eustachian tube and causes trapping of air in the middle ear. Middle ear problems can become severe if left untreated and result in a burst in the eardrum, causing excessive bleeding.
  5. Meniere's disease: This is a disorder, which comes in bouts and is characterised by vertigo and fluctuating hearing loss. This condition usually affects one ear. It can result in tinnitus (ringing in the ear) or permanent loss of hearing if left untreated.
  6. Swimmer’s ear: Swimmer’s ear, also known as otitis externa, is a common condition which is caused in the outer area of the ear. This condition is caused due to remnants of chlorine water in the ear or because of inserting swabs too deep inside the canal. This condition is characterised by earache, discomfort and itching of the ear.
