Tremors, feeling anxious or nervous, sense of panic, sweating, increased heartbeat, feeling of impending doom, stomach discomfort, dizziness etc are signs of anxiety. These can be debilitating. If the anxiety us overwhelming, consult a psychiatrist at the earliest. With the right medication and counseling, it is likely your symptoms will improve. Other than that, try yoga, deep breathing, meditation, moderate exercise, progressive muscular relaxation and guided meditation.

You definitely seem to have several issues. Smoking is definitely harmful for your overall health including sexual life. There are antismoking medications like bupropion and verinicline which you can get from a psychiatrist. The second issue is about your depression. Again anti-depressants with counseling will help you come out of these problems.

I have stammering problem only when I give some seminar or orientation. So can I take propranolol? If so when or any other solution? Plzz help.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Stammering can be made lesser only and only by Speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, I'd suggest you to visit a Psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. People may make fun of this but believe me, slowly you'll get better at it. Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts. Wishing you good health.

He is not alone to have had these problems of attraction to mother or sister and ending up in some activities which are opposite to soceital morals. There are girls who feel attracted towards fathers and brothers. When you are aware of some morals and act against to it you feel sad, angry, depressed which is natural. Holding these feelings makes you more sad. Try to forgive yourself so that you can move on. If he feels that he want to say sorry to his mother he can do that. Practice meditation, yoga, I am not so in favour of zapatra unless he is very very depressed. Hope this helps.

Want to know about bipolar disorder and its side effects and complete consultancy. Please tell.

Want to know about bipolar disorder and its side effects and complete consultancy. Please tell.
It can be a crippling disease if not treated and if treated early the prognosis is good. So quickly visit a psychiatrist and seek his/her opinion and you must then follow the medication prescribed. Comply with all the medical prescriptions and work in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learn coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges you will face. There are certain adaptations that will suit you during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime you can do certain things that will give you benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You need to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that you may never be aware of now. Talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times you will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that you can do without the medication. This will set you back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i.e. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in you for a personal understanding. Regarding some of the symptoms here goes: Mania is a term that describes the emotional highs of bipolar disorder. In general, symptoms of a manic episode may include: •High energy, excessive activity, and/or restlessness •Overly good mood •Irritability •Fast, erratic talking •Racing thoughts •Inability to concentrate •Little need for sleep •Feelings of power •Poor judgment •Reckless spending •High sex drive •Alcohol or drug abuse •Aggression •Refusal to admit that there is a problem Bipolar Symptoms: Depression In bipolar disorder, manic episodes alternate with periods of emotional lows, which are known as depressive episodes. Signs of a depressive episode may include: •Sadness, anxiety, or a feeling of emptiness •Hopelessness •Feelings of guilt, feeling worthless, or feeling helpless •Lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyable, such as sex •Low energy •Trouble with concentration or memory •Restlessness or irritability •Excessive sleeping or insomnia •Changes in appetite or weight •Pain or other physical symptoms not explained by an illness or injury Thoughts of death, or suicidal thoughts or attempts to kill the self.

Sir I have a bad habit to eat (gutkha) tobacco. I want to quit it but I unable to do it. Please tell me what to do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
If it is Hans and gutkha products, they are both very dangerous. I am so glad that your intention is to quit this habit. There are no guarantees about stopping one’s addiction. But that does not mean we should not keep at it, over and over again until we succeed. It is a tobacco product and will therefore have addictive components to it. It may feel like you can’t stop but that it really not true. If you do not try, then it will never happen. You must try and try again until you succeed. The problem with addiction is that you have this product which is conditioned to various events in your daily life and as such it will make it difficult but not impossible. You could work with an addiction counselor to help you process the rehabilitation. It is important to first find out about the ill-effects of tobacco use to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary and true. The nicotine in tobacco stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. Nicotine also reduces the erectile capacity of your penis to hamper satisfying sex. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. You need to replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the tobacco drive reduces, substantially. Both will help but I am inclined to favor the gum because it is an oral habit and it will occupy the mouth just as though you were still chewing tobacco. When you want it will be easier to give up the gum. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-users for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit consuming it. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

OCD - Tips to Deal With it!

OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder, which can be indicated through obsession, having pervasive thoughts or thoughts, which may upset you, having certain compulsions, and practicing certain rituals, which may help to control or manage your obsessions. It is a disorder, which cannot be cured, but can be controlled with the help of treatment. Mostly, OCD is considered to be a lifelong disorder. It often circulates around the fear of germs or sickness and around keeping order and maintaining patterns.

He/she experience Doubt

Here's how it works. The person experience an unwanted thought which suggests the possibility of a catastrophic problem. For instance:

  1. What if I left the stove on, and the neighborhood burns?
  2. What if I got insecticide on my hands, and my family gets poisoned?
  3. What stops me from taking the carving knife and stabbing my spouse?
  4. What if I got poked by a needle infected with HIV?

These are thoughts about catastrophes. Naturally, you want to set them aside, and assure yourself that all is well.

And you try. You try very hard, very repetitively, to persuade yourself that all is well. You probably recognize that the thoughts are pretty exaggerated, even silly. But you keep trying to get rid of them. You try to feel absolutely sure that they're false. Even though you've never experienced these problems in the past, you want somehow to be certain that they will never happen in the future.

Here are some Tips that can help you in overcoming OCD

  1. Consult a qualified Psychiatrist: A qualified Psychiatrist is the only person who can diagnose and answer your question “Do I have OCD?” Fortunately, effective medicines are available now that can certainly help you overcome OCD. One important thing is, even if the medicines are taking time to work, consult your psychiatrist. Inform your Psychiatrist and he will make necessary changes in the prescription.
  2. Educate Yourself about OCD: There’s no substitute for being an informed patient. Your understanding of OCD, and of the treatment method, will be a key to your progress. If you’re going to overcome OCD, you need to become an informed consumer.
  3. Don’t be alone: OCD sufferers tend to do some compulsions to overcome their anxiety and these rituals are silly and awkward, that is why to avoid embarrassment such personally prefer to stay indoors. But staying indoors makes your mind locked in an OCD viscous cycle and it becomes difficult to break the cycle.
  4. Meditation: Meditation is an ancient relaxation method that can do wonders for you in overcoming OCD.
  5. Never neglect 3 practices: Regular Exercise, Healthy Diet and Sound sleep.
  6. Stop comparing yourself with others: it’s human nature to compare ourselves with others. Everyone has problems, difficulties. But they might be hiding there their sorrows, worries behind a mask, conveniently. Do not judge their quality of their happiness by looking at their external appearance.
  7. Find the cause: Find the real hidden reason for your anxiety, and take measures to reduce it. Sometimes chronic depression, childhood trauma, lack of sufficient sleep, etc. might be the reason.
  8. Help others: You will feel the satisfaction when you help others and see their smile.
  9. Don’t control your thoughts: Rather, control your reactions. And, Be happy, remain positive.
  10. Listen to music: Music has the tremendous power of healing and it diverts your mind.
  11. Do believe in the theory of KARMA: do your duties, don’t worry about results.

MBBS
Sexologist, Panchkula
I feel very depressed I am not able to control my mind I have sex first in my life my mind does not fill good.
You feel depressed after first sex. You are not able to control your mind. I advise you to be vegetarian. Take plenty of water. Do meditation for mental strength daily to increase your focus and willpower to control your mind. Whenever sex thoughts come to your mind, replace these thoughts by good thoughts by saying or teaching your mind that these thoughts are not good for health and sex. Slowly and steadily, you will definitely win over sex and negative thoughts. Be positive and think positive.
