Your complain sounds like a symptom of ocd, obsessive compulsive disorder. Obsessions are automatic, unwanted, intrusive, repetitive and anxiety provoking thoughts. Usually there is a pattern, like in your case the thoughts come before an activity. There are medicines available to reduce these thoughts. You should visit a psychiatrist. There are counseling techniques also that will help. It is a treatable condition. Don't delay the treatment.

Hello lybrate-user. You could consider refractive surgery (lasik) if it is applicable to your eyes. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. Coming to your secondary problem, pain in the eyes and headache may have multiple causes associated with it. Let me enumerate the various causes in brief: (1) change in the power of glasses (in case you are using glasses). If you are not using glasses, you may need to use them. (2) allergy/infection/ foreign body in the eye. This requires prompt assessment and treatment. (3) raised eye pressure. This is usually a hereditary problem. It may also be precipitated by certain medications and drugs. (4) migraine: it may cause eye pain along with headache and associated signs and symptoms. (5) raised blood pressure: fluctuations in the blood pressure may cause pain in the eyes along with headache. (6) sinusitis / fever/ infection: it is an inflammation/ infection in the sinus spaces around the eyes. It is frequently associated with allergy. (7) other neurological issues. They would require assessment by a neurosurgeon/ physician. There are a few points you need to look at before jumping to any conclusions. Have you undergone an eye check up previously? is there any history of raised pressure in your eyes? do you have anybody in your family having raised eye pressure? do you suffer from recurrent cold, fever, cough, etc? do you have a lot of work/ study related stress? do you use glasses? do you have any history of migraine? do you have any history of brain problem? have you consulted a neurologist before? is there any history of eye injury or head injury? the reason for asking all these questions is that headache and eye pain may occur due to various reasons ranging from change in glasses, sinusitis, migraine, glaucoma, tension, blood pressure and so on. The list is long. It would be a good idea to have a look at your eyes. This would help in coming to a decision whether your eye pain and headache is due to an eye problem. If you could use the video facility provided by lybrate and get in touch, I could probably guide you more accurately as to provide relief to your symptoms. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.

How to Prevent an Emotional Meltdown?

DPM
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
How to Prevent an Emotional Meltdown?

Is depression eating you up from within? Are you facing severe emotional meltdown? Emotional disturbances can ruin your life and this is why you have to look for the best preventive ways. You can have a consultation with any counsellor so that you can share your problems. Your counsellor will definitely help you to get some potential way out.

Best ways for preventing emotional meltdown:

  1. Detecting the signs: The actual signs of emotional meltdown need to be detected and then only you can get rid of the same. Both your facial expressions and behavioural changes are to be observed carefully as these will help you to detect the signs. If you are remaining silent for most of the times, then there is something going on in your mind for sure.
  2. Early intervention: You should rely on your intuition or sixth sense so that you can sense the troubles you are going to face. You should have a good observation power so that you can sense things easily. Remain quiet and calm so that you can take the right decisions.
  3. Living well: You need to choose a completely healthy way of living, otherwise you will never get freedom from emotional troubles. Do not think much about past incidents, rather you should look forward so that you can go ahead. You should develop only positive mentality in order to discharge your duties in a perfect manner. Remain happy and keep everybody happy and then only you will be able to get the actual essence of life. Healthy eating and good habits are also needed so that your life can become more lively and refreshing.
  4. Have proper communication: If you think that your friends or family members are pretty reliable, then you can openly communicate with them. This would help you to get mental relief and relaxation.  If you open up your emotions and share them with anybody, then you will feel relaxed and your mind will be calm at all times.
  5. Have counselling: It is not always possible to share all your secrets with your loved ones and this is the reason you have to look for the most reliable option. You can go for thorough counselling, and this can help you to get rid of depressing thoughts and other mental troubles. In this case, you have to look for the best counsellor in your locality so that you can disclose all your hidden secrets.

I am having ringworms on my penis and also in between both of my thighs I have used some creams and it has been 4-5 m...
Tinea (Ringworm) Ringworm is a skin infection caused by a fungus. Ringworm can affect skin on your body (tinea corporis), scalp (tinea capitis), groin area (tinea cruris, also called jock itch), or feet (tinea pedis, also called athlete's foot). Often, there are several patches of ringworm on your skin at once. Causes The ring worm infection, also known as tinea, is caused by fungi called dermatophytes and not by worms. The fungus can live off the dead tissues of skin, hair, and nails. Symptoms Itching Red, circular patches on skin Ayurvedic Tinea (Ringworm) Treatment According to Ayurvedic philosophy this problem is diagnosed as “dadru”. The involved dosha is kapha- vata. Kapha is an Ayurvedic humour, which symbolizes mucus. It is cold, heavy, dense and sticky in nature. Vata is another Ayurvedic humour, which symbolizes air or wind. It is cold, dry, subtle and mobile. Kapha and vata dosha manifest in the skin and cause accumulation of toxins. These toxins accumulate in deeper tissues of skin like rasa (nutrient plasma), rakta, (blood), mansa (muscles) and lasika (lymphatic). These toxins cause contamination of deeper tissues. Contamination of deeper tissues and aggravation of kapha/vata dosha leads to ringworm. Third involved dosha is pitta. Pitta is third dosha which symbolizes heat or fire. Thus it is tridoshaj disease, in which prime involved doshas are kapha and vata. Diet & Lifestyle Advice One should avoid very fired, spicy, sour and excessive sweet foods. Citrus fruits (lemon, lime, orange), chutneys, sauces, pickled food, mustard and vinegar should be avoided. One should avoid foods made up of white flour such as bread, cakes, pastries, pizza etc. You should avoid artificial foods, fast foods, cola drinks. Tomatoes, excessive salt should be avoided. Non- veg foods should be avoided completely. Tea, coffee, alcohol and smoking are also pitta aggravating. Milk product like yogurt should be avoided. Rather than these foods stress on foods, which are sweet, blend, alkaline in nature. Foods that should be included are grains, rice, pasta, beans, breads, dairy products, sweet drinks and juices. Fresh vegetables and fresh fruits should be taken. Home Remedies Boil 10-15 Neem leaves in 3 cups of water until half the water gets evaporated. Wash the tinea lesions with this water. Rub papaya over the tinea lesions. It is very effective. Add little milk in turmeric and apply this mixture on tinea lesions. Wash away after half an hour. Do this 3 / 4 times a day.

Varicose veins can lead to painful ulcers. Please get a venous doppler scan done of the affected limb and see the vascular surgeon. Also compression dressings will help in healing of the ulcer. The vascular surgeon will deicde whether any intervention is required or not depending on the doppler report.

5 Common Vascular Disorders You Must Know!

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, MCh - Vascular Surgery
Vascular Surgeon, Bangalore
5 Common Vascular Disorders You Must Know!

Vascular disorders are disorders of the vessels in your body that carry either blood or waste products. The vascular system consists of the arteries (that carry blood away from the heart), veins (that carry blood to the heart) and lymph vessels (that carry waste products to be excreted from the body). The various diseases of the vascular or circulatory system are:

  1. Peripheral Artery Disease: Peripheral arteries carry blood to the various organs and tissues in the body. Accumulation of cholesterol and fat in the vessels narrow the pathway for the blood to flow. This can impair blood flow to the tissues in the body and cause complications. Various medications used to lower cholesterol and blood pressure can also be used for peripheral artery disease.
  2. Buerger's Disease: This disease causes obstructions in the veins and arteries in the legs. This can hamper blood supply in the toes and the feet. It causes pain and may require amputation in severe cases. Treatments for this disease include smoking cessation and medications to dilute blood vessels.
  3. Aneurysm: An aneurysm is swelling in the blood vessel walls; it usually occurs in the aorta. The artery walls become fragile and are placed under a lot of stress; this may lead to a sudden rupture of the aortic vessels. This disorder is usually treated by surgical procedures.
  4. Peripheral Venous Disease: Peripheral venous disease is characterized by damage to the valves that allows blood to flow in a single direction. Damaged valves can cause blood to flow backwards and therefore, accumulate. Treatments for this disorder are incorporating certain lifestyle habits such as quitting smoking and alcohol.
  5. Blood clots in the veins: Blood clots may occur in the veins present inside the muscles of the thighs and lower legs which lead to deep vein thrombosis. You may be prescribed anti-coagulants, also known as blood thinners, to treat this disorder.

Causes
People with diseases such diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney failure can be more likely to have vessel problems. Working with vibrating tools, being in cold temperatures, and smoking can worsen vascular problems. Causes of vascular disorders usually fit into one of 5 groups:

  1. Traumatic, which occur after injury
  2. Compressive, which occur when the pipes flatten
  3. Occlusive, which occur when pipes are blocked
  4. Tumors (growths) or malformations (deformed, tangled pipes), which may or may not be present at birth
  5. Vessel spasms, which occur when abnormal control of vessels causes them to narrow

Symptoms
Symptoms of vascular disorders can include:

  1. Pain
  2. Abnormal color changes in the fingertips
  3. Ulcers or wounds that do not heal
  4. Hand problems when in cold temperatures or locations
  5. Numbness or tingling of the fingertips
  6. Swelling
  7. Cool or cold fingers and/or hands
