My wedding was on june 18th and I was on my periods that day. We mated a week later on june 26th. My next period came on due date, i.e on july 20th. But it went missing in august. I checked using a kit and got negative result. But the period is still missing even after 14 days from due date. Is it that I have conceived or something else is the reason? What should I do?

Get a solid prenatal education. Pick a health care provider who's into natural birth. Don't gain too much weight. Go for a low-intervention pregnancy. Spend early labor at home. Use water. Use your prenatal education.

I am 33 yrs, had vaginal delivery 2 months back. It’s my 2nd baby. No complications in delivery. I am looking for birth control methods, mainly hormonal IUD. When can I get it done? Will that adversely affect menstrual period? I am breastfeeding, will it be affected?

MBBS, MS - Obs and Gynae, MRCOG(London), DNB, Fellowship In Uro Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
An IUD can be inserted 6 weeks after delivery. If it is done any time after that, pregnancy should be ruled out. Breast milk production does not get affected by IUD. If you get a hormonal IUCD inserted, it can cause irregular spotting of blood and 70% of women have no menses after 1 year of hormonal IUD insertion but they resume once IUD is removed. Copper IUD has no effect on menses.

Surprising Facts About Laughter!

Surprising Facts About Laughter!

Laughter is a type of response that occurs to you generally when you experience a funny or a pleasant situation. All the doctors also believe in the theory that laughter indeed is the best medicine. Laughing not only helps to cheer you up emotionally by boosting your mood, but also has complementary physical outcomes that are desirable. Here are some interesting and fascinating facts about laughter.

1. You are more likely to laugh around others - According to a medical research, it is a proven fact that laughter is generated by a person rather than a funny situation or a joke that you hear. It is the image of that person in your mind which is funny and everything he/she does or says seems to be funny for you. This is why you will probably laugh among a set of people rather than laughing all by yourself.

2. Fake laughter - A medical research conducted by Professor Scott has readily proven that the human brain has the ability to differentiate between a fake laughter and a real one. So, if you are in a group of people and somebody is trying to laugh forcibly and deliberately, then your brain is able to identify that person easily.

3. Laughter is contagious - As per the famous saying, when you laugh then the whole world laughs with you. It is a true thing and laughter is actually contagious as it tends to regulate a part in your brain when you hear others laughing.

4. Burns calories - Laughter is a good source of a physical workout as well as it burns calories when you laugh out loud. Laughing for around 10 to 15 minutes a day burns about 10 to 40 calories.

5. Leads to healthier relationships - It is a proven fact that laughing together with any individual help to strengthen the emotional bond that you share with that person. People who laugh together usually are able to trust each other more and their relationship lasts for a longer period.

6. Mood and Energy booster - Laughter is an instant booster if you are emotionally wrecked or suffering from a bad mood. It helps to cheer you up and make you feel good and confident about yourself. Additionally, it also helps to boost the energy levels if you are low on energy.

The infertility rate with polycystic ovaries is very high. Women usually will have difficulty getting pregnant - and usually require treatment to improve chances for pregnancy. Some women with polycystic ovary syndrome will ovulate (release a mature egg) occasionally - others do not ever ovulate. In order to conceive, sperm must find and fertilize a mature egg - so a female needs to ovulate. The good news is that the chance of getting pregnant with polycystic ovarian syndrome using fertility treatments is very good. The great majority of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome will be able to have a baby with fertility treatment. You can estimate your condition with regular sonography of ovaries at an interval of 2-3 months.

When it comes to treatment of infertility in case of hypothyroidism, I prefer to use compounded T3 instead of Thyronorm/ Eltroxin. It is also important to take into consideration other Metabolic and Hormonal issues.
