Fluid in ear very common in kids. We can wait for 12 weeks , during which baby should take proper treatment for allergy. If it doesn't resolve then surgery will be the answer.

Whether the loss of nerve in the ear zone due to use of Streptomycin Inj in a patient of spinal TB is reversible?

Streptomycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglcosides. Aminoglycosides appear to generate free radicals within the inner ear, with subsequent permanent damage to sensory cells and neurons, resulting in permanent damage to the inner ear.

lybrate-user, Your ENT surgeon is right. You need a Septoplasty to correct the nasal Septal deformity. It is a very simple surgery which I do as a daycare case. I have been doing the latest packless endoscopic nasal surgery for the last 15 years which means - NO BANDAGES BLOCKING NOSE (nasal breathing is possible immediately after surgery), NO LONG HOSPITALISATION (patient usually leaves the hospital within 2 hours after the surgery)! You are welcome to drop into my clinic in Bengaluru for the same if you do not get anyone to do this surgery in your Town.

The description you are giving looks like its a meniere's disease. But you need to be examined once and treatment would be to take betahistine.

I am 45 years old. I m suffering from sleep apnea for last two years. I also have DNS in my nose and snoring problems too. Kindly advise me what to do.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

BHMS

Yes there could be a link between non-clearance of bowels and owing to gas fainting for a moment. You need to keep your bowels clear in order to rule out other cause of fainting.

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

There are various type of nosebleed that can be caused by a variety of conditions. While some of them may not be too serious, one must never ignore heavy and persistent nosebleed. Nosebleeds are of two kinds: anterior nosebleed and posterior nosebleed. While 90% of all nosebleeds are anterior nosebleeds, the posterior nosebleeds are far less common and may be slightly more serious in nature. An anterior nosebleed is usually caused in the blood vessels that lie on the front portion of the nose and can be controlled easily. A posterior nosebleed usually comes from damage to an artery in the rear portion of the nose. Infection, trauma, allergic reactions and other such causes may be behind a nosebleed.

Let us cast a glance on the tips to prevent nosebleeds.

  1. Salt water and saline nose drops can be used in order to prevent nosebleeds. It is important to take these on a regular basis in case you are experiencing these nosebleeds on a regular basis.
  2. You can also consult doctor, who may prescribe blood thinners so that the blood does not clot and lead to a nosebleed. You will need to ensure that you take such medication only when the doctor prescribes the same.
  3. The use of painkillers like Aspirin and other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs must be limited. Sometimes, taking such medication too frequently may lead to nosebleeds.
  4. You would do well to control your blood pressure because hypertension and other forms of high blood pressure can also cause nosebleeds. Lifestyle changes like your diet and exercise can help in keeping a more stable blood pressure level so that you do not fall prey to frequent nosebleeds.
  5. Humidify your home with a humidifier so that the air does not get too dry. Many times, this causes nosebleeds. Also, you may want to keep the heat down in the bedrooms. Many nosebleeds happen due to too warm temperatures while you are sleeping.
  6. Nose picking should also be discouraged as it can lead to nosebleeds in case there is a scratch or any other kind of damage when you try to force the dirt out.
  7. It has also been found that smoking has a connection with nosebleeds. This can be fixed if the patient quits smoking.
  8. One should not use nasal sprays without a prescription from a doctor. This also includes antihistamines, decongestants as well as other medicated sprays. These may not suit the patient at all times, and may also lead to nosebleeds.

In the event of a nosebleed, you will need to lean forward with your head tilted backwards. This will stem the bleeding. If it is possible, you must also try and lie down immediately for a few minutes.

Hi, you have got a viral infection with fever ulcers and throat pain. Do not panic you can take paracetomol for fever and do tepid sponging if high temperature. Do warm salt water gargling three times a day. Take b-complex vitamin tablets for ulcers. Avoid oily spicy foods. Viral fever will come down by itself. If does not comedown than you will need a course of antibiotics. Take care.

It's an emergency. Consult an ent surgeon. Get your hearing assessment done. (pta and tymapnometry) if it shows loss of hearing due to sensorineural hearing loss, you have to be started on high dose steroids and antiviral medications. Don't neglect this. First 48 hours is very crucial in any case of sudden hearing loss.

Dear lybrate-user To be honest you have yourself given your body this trouble. Your throat problem or cough is because of smoking and it will be there with you until you smoke and in fact even for sometime after that as the tobacco has actually damaged your lungs and they cannot work as effectively as they should. Also getting back your original lip colour is not possible until you smoke. There is a slight chance it might lighten a bit years after you leave smoking. You can take some medicines to control the current episode of throat pain but it will keep coming back to you until you smoke. :) So decision is in your hands.

Hearing loss can be due to many reason including perforation/ hole in the eardrum and it can be either conductive or neural type. U need to get an audiometry (hearing test) done to find out this. Review with report.
