Hi, following advices will help: dietary advice: child should be given food in addition to milk, like fruits: banana, apple, mango, chiku, rice, cereals, paneer, yoghurt, paranthas, eggs, ghee and butter in every meal. Investigations: complete blood count with peripheral smear treatment: depending on the report, multivitamin or iron syrup, appetizer syrup and deworming syrup also needs to be given. My daughter has all her milestone delay like delayed speech, development, gross motor, etc. She difficulties in all gross motor activities like writing, drawing, combing her hair, wearing shoes and socks, etc.

Your daughter needs to be evaluated by a pediatrcian and psychologist. Depending on that she will need physiotherapy and speech therapy. This will help her in attending a special school.

It is probably persistent cough (khansi), your child is suffering for last 10 hours. It is advisable to consult pediatrician.

Hi I am 24 years I am feeding milk to my child from the next day of delivery ,after 2 months the milk is not coming what shall I do.

There should be any reason of decreasing of milk if you had been exclusively breast milk to the satisfaction of baby. Continue exclusive breast feeding till either breast is emptied or baby is satisfied. In case if after emptying of breast, baby remains hungry, give him top feed kept ready in hand. This practice may increase milk production provided you are taking good nourishing diet. Else you may consult obstetrician.

The usual recommendation is to give 2 hourly feed and we ax also recommend demand feed. That is, if the baby does not feed after 2 hours, leave him and feed when he feels hungry instead of sticking a 2 hour time table.

Preventing Thumb Sucking in Children

Thumb or finger sucking is common in infants through the first year of their lives. A child usually turns to his thumb when he is tired, upset or bored.

A child younger than five years should not be pressured to stop thumb sucking. While majority of children give up such habits on their own before they enter school, about 15 percent of children continue thumb sucking past their fifth birthday. This is an age when teasing often starts, causing difficulties for children.

Apart from this, thumb sucking can also lead to dental problems. A child who is still sucking his thumb by age five, when permanent teeth start coming in, may develop an abnormal bite. In addition, prolonged thumb sucking can cause minor physical problems, such as chapped lips or cracked skin, calluses, or fingernail infections.

The effects of thumb sucking are usually reversible until the age of seven because children still have their deciduous (baby) teeth. If thumb sucking continues beyond that age, when the second teeth are erupting, permanent dental problems can occur.

There are various things you can do to help your child stop thumb sucking:

1. Reward your child and offer encouragement - For example, with a hug or praise to reinforce their decision to stop the habit.

2. Limit nagging - If children feel they are being nagged they will become defensive.

3. Mark their progress on a calendar - For example, place a star or a tick for each period (such as a day or week) that the child does not suck thumb or finger. Provide a special outing or a toy if the child gets through the period successfully.

4. Encourage bonding - For example, with a special toy.

5. Reminders - Give the child a mitten to wear as a reminder not to suck, or place unpleasant tasting nail paint (available from chemists) on the fingers or thumb. Placing a band aid over the thumb at bedtime is another reminder.

6. Offer distractions - While a child is watching tv, have toys available for children to play with. Sit with the child during this time and give a cuddle to help them not to suck. In the car, have toys available to keep children occupied.

7. Talk to your pediatrician and your child's dentist, who may recommend appropriate treatment that prevents thumb sucking.

If anyone discusses baby's weight he must tell more details like birth weight and medical history, This weight is reasonable and you stop bottle feed if ou give and check his TSH and inform me . Make eating a fun filled game for him and make what he likes avoid any bakery foods

Hi I feel that your child is lacking emotional support. Sit with her and talk to her politely and ask her why she is doing all these things. Find out the reason behind her actions. When a child lies to her parents, it may be because of your strict discipline. She feels scared to share with you. Spend quality time with your child and understand her. Teach her how to behave. For every good behaviour give reward. Do not delay the reward, it should be in the form of appreciation, tokens, gifts or taking her out etc. Make a behaviour chart for her. This will help you.

How Acidic Foods Affect Your Teeth

We all got together to indulge into our favourite foods this holiday season, where platter overflowed with sweet, spicy and acidic foods. However, when it comes to teeth, sugar isn’t the only culprit that cause tooth decay. High levels of acid in everyday foods and drinks are equally harmful. Lemons to wine, high-acid foods and drinks erode your teeth, causing decay, sensitivity and discoloration. But that doesn’t mean you have to strike all acidic foods and drinks from your diet. The way you consume these items can lessen their damage on your teeth.

Tooth erosion:

It is a type of tooth wear where, the protective surface of your teeth or the enamel wears away exposing the underlying material, called dentin. This leaves your tooth vulnerable to tartar, plaque and bacteria, which cause decay.

Causes of tooth erosion:

Calcium is a key ingredient in building strong teeth. Unfortunately, exposing your teeth to acid can leach calcium from your enamel, causing this protective surface to break down. Foods which have Ph. below 5.0 to 5.7 are acidic. This acid can come from many sources, including the following:

· Carbonated drinks. All soft drinks, including “diet” options, contain high levels of acid that can easily dissolve your enamel.

· Wine. Whether you choose red, white or rosé, drinking wine will soften your enamel.

· Pickles. Which are traditionally seen in an Indian platter

· Fruit juice. The most acidic options include lemon, cranberry, orange and apple.

· Citric fruits. Snacking or sucking on lemons, oranges and limes can wear down your teeth.

· Candy. No sugary sweets are good for your teeth, but you should pay extra attention to avoid sour gummies and candies.

· Sugar. Even though sugar itself does not contain high levels of acidity, it promotes the growth of acid-creating bacteria in your mouth, creating an acidic environment.

· Stomach acid. Vomiting and reflux also can cause serious tooth damage when stomach acid comes into contact with your teeth. If you suffer from an eating disorder, acid reflux or a related condition, seek professional help.

Signs of tooth erosion

Acid wear may lead to serious dental problems. It is important to notice the signs of tooth erosion in its early stages (sensitivity and discoloration) before more severe damage occur, such as cracks, pain and decay.

· Sensitivity. As your teeth’s protective enamel wears away, you may feel a twinge of pain when you consume hot, cold or sweet food and drink. As more enamel is worn away, teeth become increasingly sensitive.

· Discoloration. Teeth can become increasingly yellow as the thinning enamel layer exposes the underlying dentin.

· Rounded teeth. Your teeth may have a rounded or “sand-blasted” look.

· Sharp edges. You might notice thinning of teeth with sharp edges which might cut your tongue and cheeks.

· Transparency. Your front teeth may appear slightly translucent near the edges.

· Cracks. Small cracks and roughness may appear at the edges of teeth.

· Cupping. Small dents may appear on the chewing surface of the teeth, and fillings may appear to be rising up out of the tooth.

What you can do to prevent tooth erosion

Follow these tips to reduce the effects of acid on your teeth.

· Eating higher pH. Food alongside. This helps in lowering the acidity. Includes food like nuts, cheese, oatmeal, mangoes, melons, banana, apples, eggs, vegetables, brown rice and whole grains.

· Eat with meals. Instead of snacking throughout the day, save acidic foods for mealtimes. This will reduce their contact with your teeth and help neutralize the acid by eating it with other foods.

· Wash down with water. Sip water alongside or after the acidic food or drink to wash it out of your mouth.

· Use a straw. While having acidic beverages, reduce their contact with your teeth by using a straw and finishing the drink quickly, instead of sipping over a long period of time.

· Say no to bubbles. Swap out carbonated drinks with water, milk or tea.

· Wait before brushing. Acid softens your enamel, so brushing immediately after eating or drinking high-acid foods or drinks can actually cause damage. Wait at least half an hour and then start brushing. In the meantime, you can always rinse your mouth with tap water.

· Quit smoking. Studies have showed that smokers are more prone to acidity leading to acid reflux and teeth erosion

· Professional help. See your dentist twice a year for dental cleaning and oral screening.

· Sugar free gums. Chewing on sugar free gums increase the saliva flow which, neutralise the acid and help the teeth to stay strong.

She is only 12years[approaching] old. But she have already big breast n excessive growth of hair in her genital part. And she tell me that last week she did masturbation. But she is not having periods. Why is this doctor? Did sexual behaviour starts early in 12? She is really behaving very sexually. She watches porn movies. Did that causes this? How can we reduce it? please help

If she has overdeveloped breasts and extra hair growth with hypersexual behavior, then this might well be precocious puberty or Hormonal imbalance. I would sincerely advice you to consult a Endocrinologist and Gynecologist. Investigate her for a hormonal profile thoroughly. In case of persistent behaviour problems in spite of a normal hormonal profile consult me online for medical assistance

His expected wt at this age should be about 8.5 kg. Give him good nourishing semi solids well cooked in ghee diet. If you are giving diluted milk, give him whole milk. Continue breastfeeding.

Focus on eating whole grains and cereals, legumes, fresh fruits and vegetables. And go for foods that provide plenty of protein, calcium, and iron (and, as always, an occasional treat is fine). Traditionally, breastfeeding mums are given a lot of dried fruit, ghee and sugar. These high calorie foods usually were meant to supplement the khichdi diet that mums traditionally follow after birth. If you are eating normal food, you can leave out the extra ghee and sugar. Dried fruits are extremely healthy and used in most traditional confinement foods. Try having them without the ghee and sugar by putting them in your porridge (dalia) for example or in some kheer. This way your relatives will be happy that you are eating the traditional ingredients but you will not be loaded with the high calories. If you must eat the laddoos or panjiri you can reduce the calorie count by eating smaller portions. Some recipes could work well with lesser quantities of ghee and for others you could use a healthier alternative such as canola oil. If you are used to having aerated drinks to quench your thirst it is best to avoid these while breastfeeding. They contain just empty calories and no nutrition. You could instead substitute it with healthier drinks such as lassi, coconut water, buttermilk (chhaach), fresh fruit and vegetable juices or nimbu pani

Persist with breast feeding. Cry is not always because of hunger. It takes time for baby to adjust after birth. Take paediatricians opinion, some times calcium will help to reduce irritability.
