Conservation of Natural Teeth is the Key Always!

Post Traumatic Rehabilitation - The patient had fallen while standing on a chair and had hit the flowerpot. The fall resulted in the front teeth being fractured in multiple segments (as seen in the Pre-Treatment Upper photograph). Generally, such teeth are extracted and artificial teeth/crowns and Bridges or Implants placed. We treated the teeth conservatively and re-attached the fractured teeth, which required lots of skill and application of fine techniques and protocols. The teeth were conserved further by undertaking RCT's and placing high quality crowns. Such appliaction and results only at Ahal Dental Clinic, Jammu.

Dental Public Health Education And Workforce

In the recent years, dental problems have been on a mercurial rise. Lack of proper knowledge and awareness (especially in the rural areas) makes the situation even worse. Dental problems can affect anyone, irrespective of their age and sex. Proper measures should be taken to deal with the problem effectively. People should be educated and made aware of the importance of practicing a good oral hygiene and dental care. In this regard, the Dental Public Health Education becomes very important.

As the name suggests, the dental public health work towards educating the people (in rural as well as urban areas) about oral and dental hygiene. It comes up with various campaigns, health camps and awareness programs (mostly government funded) to help people take care of their and their loved one's dental health. The aim of the dental public health work is to reach out to and, in the process, extend help to a wider mass.

In some of the campaigns, the dentists reach out to the children (in schools and colleges) and explain them the importance of a good dental health and the healthy dental practices they need to follow. Few of the initiatives and awareness programs have indeed been of great help to people.

The Dental Public health workers and specialists work on the competencies as directed by the Indian Dental Association, some of which are being mentioned below:

  1. Organizing and managing oral health campaigns and programs.
  2. Extensive research to deal with oral health problems of the public.
  3. Communicate with people regarding the various dental and oral health problems
  4. Measure the status of oral health through effective surveillance systems.
  5. Address individual (as well as population) oral health issues effectively.
  6. Promote and protect public oral health through public health regulations, policy, and legislation.

The Dental public health is thus, a non-clinical speciality, whereby trained and experienced workers works effortlessly to improve the oral health of communities rather than individuals. It is a broader term that touches upon the different aspects of dental and oral health (causes, symptoms, treatment, prevention, and precaution).

Advantages of the Dental Public Health Education:

The dental public health education and workforce are indeed a blessing that comes with a lot of oral health benefits:

  1. The dental public health (DPH) has helped create awareness, thereby lowering the incidences of tooth decay and plaque formation greatly.
  2. It has brought about a remarkable improvement in the overall health of the people.
  3. The DPH has successfully held campaigns and oral health camps in areas that have been left unattended and neglected for long.
  4. Campaigns organized in schools help children and their families to practice healthy oral hygiene.
  5. The action is at a community level so that maximum people can benefit from the programs and campaigns. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dentist.

Most kinds of toothpaste contain glycerin that may do more harm than good. The thing is, glycerin coats the teeth and prevents remineralization. Like bones, teeth are composed of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals, which are all delivered to teeth through saliva. When these minerals cannot get in teeth, your teeth are not as strong as they should be. So, make sure you buy glycerin free toothpaste.

Dental Fillings - What You Need To Know?

Dental Fillings - What You Need To Know?

Most of us suffer from some or the other dental problem in our lifetime. Majority of these problems are attributed to tooth decay. Tooth decay or cavities occur when bacteria living in the mouth produce a strong acid that slowly deteriorates the health of the teeth. If left untreated such decays will lead to infection, causing extreme pain and eventually tooth loss. To prevent this, dental fillings are done. Fillings are also used to repair broken or cracked teeth. Here is everything you need to know about fillings.

What is a Dental Filling?
A dental filling is one of the most commonly used methods that can restore the normal functioning and shape of the tooth, which may have been damaged due to tooth decay. These fillings close off the spaces where bacteria can set in and cause further decay. This protects the surrounding tissues too as food and bacteria accumulated in cavities can harm gums too.

Procedure of Dental Filling:
Before a filling session, the dentist will carry out proper assessment of your teeth. Dental X-rays may be used to ascertain the extent of the damage. This can be followed by a procedure with which the dentist will clean out the affected area of the tooth. After the decay has been cleaned out, the cavity will be filled with desired filling material.

Types of Dental Fillings:
There are various kinds of dental fillings. Let us find out a little bit about each kind.

  1. Gold Filling: These are made in a laboratory before they are cemented in place. These fillings are known to last over two decades thanks to the fact that they are tolerated exceptionally well by the gum tissue. This is also an expensive option, which will require multiple visits to the dental clinic
  2. Amalgam Filling: These are also known as silver fillings and are usually an alloy containing tin, silver, and other metals, which bond well with the teeth. Many Dentists today are advising against the use of these fillings as it has been proved that mercury content in these fillings can harm the body.
  3. Composite Resin Filling: These kinds of fillings are matched to the colour of your teeth for a natural appearance. These are the most commonly uses fillings today as they fulfill most of the criteria we would desire from a dental filling.
  4. Porcelain Filling: These are known as inlays or onlays. These fillings are used in restorations where a large part of the tooth structure has been lost.

Kindly apply orahelp gum paint twice daily for 15 days. Also take multivitamins for a month. Also notice that you are not constipated, stressed, having lack of sleep, having acidity problem etc as these are few of the reasons for ulcers. Avoid having hot and spicy food as this may irritate the ulcers.

Has x-ray for last tooth, the wisdom tooth being taken for the left side, tooth no 38. Without looking at the x-rays, it is very difficult to access the clinical situation though. If the tooth no 38 is impacted, then it can induce pressure which can again cause pain. Also if possible, then you can send a copy of the x-rays over to us for evaluation. Good luck.
