3 blockages with stents to open them is a temporary solution, that is getting replaced with open heart surgery since technique is advanced and mortality rate due to heart surgeries has gone down remarkably, it is only fear factor, that helps the doctor put 3 stents instead of suggesting surgeries done by surgeons, but stents are fitted by physicians! 35-40% ejection fraction ef is sort of okay, we have seen people with as low as 20% getting operated and coming back home' recovered'

Heart attack first aid

A heart attack is a medical emergency. Call ambulance or your local emergency number if you think you or someone else is having a heart attack.

The average person waits 3 hours before seeking help for symptoms of a heart attack. Many heart attack patients die before they reach a hospital. The sooner the person gets to the emergency room, the better the chance of survival. Prompt medical treatment reduces the amount of heart damage.

This article discusses what to do if you think someone may be having a heart attack.

Causes
A heart attack occurs when the blood flow that carries oxygen to the heart is blocked. The heart muscle becomes starved for oxygen and begins to die.

Symptoms
Symptoms of a heart attack can vary from person to person. They may be mild or severe. Women, older adults, and people with diabetes are more likely to have subtle or unusual symptoms.

Symptoms in adults may include:

Changes in mental status, especially in older adults
Chest pain that feels like pressure, squeezing, or fullness. The pain is usually in the center of the chest. It may also be felt in the jaw, shoulder, arms, back, and stomach. It can last for more than a few minutes, or come and go.
Cold sweat
Light-headedness
Nausea (more common in women)
Numbness, aching, or tingling in the arm (usually the left arm, but the right arm may be affected alone, or along with the left)
Shortness of breath
Weakness or fatigue, especially in older adults and in women
First aid
If you think someone is having a heart attack:

Have the person sit down, rest, and try to keep calm.
Loosen any tight clothing.
Ask if the person takes any chest pain medication, such as nitroglycerin, for a known heart condition, and help them take it.
If the pain does not go away promptly with rest or within 3 minutes of taking nitroglycerin, call for emergency medical help.
If the person is unconscious and unresponsive, (or your local emergency number), then begin cpr.
If an infant or child is unconscious and unresponsive, perform 1 minute of cpr, then call ambulance
Do not
Do not leave the person alone except to call for help, if necessary.
Do not allow the person to deny the symptoms and convince you not to call for emergency help.
Do not wait to see if the symptoms go away.
Do not give the person anything by mouth unless a heart medication (such as nitroglycerin) has been prescribed.
When to contact a medical professional or your local emergency number immediately if the person:

Does not respond to you
Is not breathing
Has sudden chest pain or other symptoms of a heart attack
Prevention
Adults should take steps to control heart disease risk factors whenever possible.

If you smoke, quit. Smoking more than doubles the chance of developing heart disease.
Keep blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes in good control and follow your doctor's orders.
Lose weight if obese or overweight.
Get regular exercise to improve heart health. (talk to your doctor before starting any new fitness program.)
Eat a heart-healthy diet. Limit saturated fats, red meat, and sugars. Increase your intake of chicken, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Your health care provider can help you tailor a diet specific to your needs.
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink. One drink a day is associated with reducing the rate of heart attacks, but two or more drinks a day can damage the heart and cause other medical problems.

Hi, Some causes of constipation include: Antacid medicines containing calcium or aluminum Changes in your usual diet or activities Colon cancer Eating a lot of dairy products. Eating disorders Irritable bowel syndrome Neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis Not being active Not enough water or fiber in your diet Overuse of laxatives (Over time, this weakens the bowel muscles) Pregnancy Problems with the nerves and muscles in the digestive system Resisting the urge to have a bowel movement, which some people do because of hemorrhoids Some medications (especially strong pain drugs such as narcotics, antidepressants, or iron pills) Stress Under active thyroid (hypothyroidism) Management: Try these steps for your constipation problem: Drink two to four extra glasses of water a day (unless your doctor told you to limit fluids for another health reason). Try warm liquids, especially in the morning. Add fruits and vegetables to your diet. Eat prunes and bran cereal. Isabgol, also known as "psyllium husk," is a common health supplement used to treat constipation, other digestive problems, and a few non-digestive problems. It contains 70 percent soluble fiber and, as a result, acts as a bulk-forming laxative. The effectiveness of isabgol largely depends on your individual health needs and the manner in which you take it.Usually, you will need to take 1 to 2 tsp (5 to 10 ml) of isabgol with 1 cup of water (240 ml) or fluid daily at night until your constipation passes. The exact dosage may vary depending on age, medical condition, and response to treatment, however. Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of fiber. Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole-grain bread and cereal (especially bran). Drink 1 1/2 to 2 quarts of water and other fluids a day (unless your doctor has you on a fluid-restricted diet). Fiber and water work together to keep you regular. Avoid caffeine. It can be dehydrating. Check on milk. Some people may need to avoid it because dairy products may be constipating for them. Exercise regularly. Go to the bathroom when you feel the urge. Avoid taking unnecessary stress. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Biocombination-4/ thrice daily for 4 weeks.

My father is 76 years old. Has a history of seizure, hypertension. He is suffering from low sodium and potassium since 8 Aug 15. And since then he's been in and out of hospital. We are consulting a neurologist from a reputed hospital but his condition isnt any better in all these days. Pls suggest who should we meet for further advice. Thanks.

MBBS,J.R. Neurology
General Physician,
Dyselectrolytemia is the cause of his seizures. Serum sodium and potassium have very small normal ranges and its crucial to maintain both. It does take time for it to normalize at his age so you should have patience. Proper fluid intake and diet is a must. He should be screened for any endocrinological etiology. Neurology consultation is mandatory. Take care.
