Sleep deprivation and sleep apnea both bad for the heart

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician, Alappuzha
Sleep deprivation and sleep apnea both bad for the heart
Both sleep deprivation and sleep apnea have been linked to a higher risk of heart disease.

Inadequate or poor quality sleep can increase the risk of heart disease in due course of time. Short–term sleep deprivation is linked with high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood pressure

Sleep apnea makes people temporarily stop breathing many times during the night. Up to 83% of people with heart disease also have sleep apnea.

In sleep apnea oxygen levels dip and the brain sends an urgent "Breathe now!" signal. That signal briefly wakes the sleeper and makes him or her gasp for air. That signal also jolts the same stress hormone and nerve pathways that are stimulated when you are angry or frightened. As a result, the heart beats faster and blood pressure rises, along with other things that can threaten heart health such as inflammation and an increase in blood clotting ability.

Having a constipation last 2 months. Have an excellent diet because of fitness still have this problem.

MBBS
General Physician, Fatehabad
Having a constipation last 2 months. Have an excellent diet because of fitness still have this problem.
Hi lybrate-user, Home remedies for constipation are very common for a good reason. Before you use home remedies for constipation, it is very important to find out what exactly is causing your constipation, as the needed treatment and cure may be completely different. Using the wrong remedy, even if it is a natural one, can cause more harm than good, so choosing the correct remedy your body needs is critical. 1. Water and Fibre The most common cause of constipation is lack of fibre in your diet. Fibre binds to water in the intestine, adds volume to the stool and the water softens the stool. Include high-fibre foods like potatoes, beans, carrots, prunes, brown rice, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, all kinds of nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, broccoli, peas, and much more in your daily diet to ease the symptoms of constipation. It’s also very important to drink enough fluids. Drink about 8-10 glasses of water daily. Put water in a copper vessel overnight and drink it in the morning. This stimulates bowel movement and gives you good results in few days. You can also drink fresh vegetable and fruit juices throughout the day. Say no to alcoholic beverages and caffeine as they cause dehydration and deterioration of your symptoms. 2. Spinach - Spinach is really good for you if you are suffering from constipation. The various components of spinach cleanse, reconstruct and regenerate the whole intestinal tract. Include spinach in your diet. Have it raw or cooked, depending on how you like it. If you have severe trouble then drink a mixture of raw spinach juice and water, twice daily. You’ll get to see the positive effects within a few days. 3. Honey - Honey relieves constipation and acts as a mild laxative. It prevents and treats constipation symptoms. Consume two teaspoons of honey, thrice daily. You can also mix honey and lemon juice in a glass of warm water and drink it every morning on an empty stomach. 4. Lemon - Lemon juice treats constipation effectively. It stimulates the digestive system and gets things moving. Drink a solution of lemon juice and warm water on an empty stomach in the morning. Add a little bit of salt and honey to it. Follow this remedy daily to see the results within a few days. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Erectile Dysfunction - Can High Blood Pressure Cause it?

MBBS, A.C.S.
Sexologist, Indore
Erectile Dysfunction - Can High Blood Pressure Cause it?

It is said that, one in every three people are suffering from high blood pressure. It is estimated that at present more alone about 65 million people in US itself are suffering from this ailment. High blood pressure is a serious ailment that can cause heart attack, kidney failure, vision impairment, and it can even cause sexual problems. This ailment has no symptoms, and it is also regarded as one of the silent killers. In fact, erectile dysfunction, which is one of the serious ailments may caused by high blood pressure can even affect the relationship between the couples.

High blood pressure and erectile dysfunction:

In the case of men, there is a direct link between sexual problem or erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure. Erection of the penis is caused by the two tissues called as corpora cavernosa. This tissue is made of small arteries and veins. During the process of erection, brain sends a signal to the nerve ending in the penis to dilate the arteries. This in turn makes the arteries to open sufficiently, and blood gets filled in empty spaces in the Penis. The relationship between high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction can be further analyzed as follows:

Those suffering from high blood pressure are prone to damage of lining on the arteries. This in turn affects the flow of blood in the arteries.
On the other hand, in the case of a person suffering from high blood pressure, arteries fail to dilate and the smooth muscles of corpora cavernosa also fail to relax. Naturally, this affects the flow of blood to the Penis which in turn causes erectile dysfunction. Because of these, people suffering from high blood pressure may suffer from the problem of Erectile Dysfunction.

Remedies available:

There are medicines that can help the individual to manage this problem of erectile dysfunction due to high blood pressure. Apart from the medicine to control high blood pressure, the physician may also suggest exercises and lifestyle modification. Remember that few medicines used to control high blood pressure(Specially beta blocker group) itself may cause Erectile Dysfunction as side effect!

So one should take the medicines strictly as per the physician's directions. If someone is on anti-hypertensive drugs and suffer from erectile dysfunction, should discuss the problem with physician. So he can switch over to safe drugs with no side effects on sexual organ.

Hello- Men suffering from ED can restore theirr sexual potency by treating the underlying medical conditions with natural remedies. There are numerous natural solutions for erectile dysfunctions. Identifying the causes and associated symptoms behind your problem is the first step you need to take. Many herbs are extremely beneficial for improving erectile dysfunctions.
