A Food Guide for Pregnant Women

Hello everyone, my name is Dr Gayatri Juneja, I am a practising Gynaecologist in Model Town for last 20 years. I also visit Fortis Shalimar Bagh and Sunderlal Jain Hospital Ashok Vihar as well as Apollo Hospital in Moti Nagar.

Today I am going to talk to you about stress incontinence. Stress incontinence - what is it? It is basically when there is leakage of urine when a lady either jumps, hops or loves to put any pressure on the abdomen. If we see the problem is very common, mostly women above 60, they actually do suffer from it and they have taken it as it is a routine part of life and nothing can be done about it. Even now we have seen that patients above the age of 40 years, face the same problem.

Can we do about it, there can be many reasons for urine leakage - it can be due to urine infection, childbirth which damage the pelvic muscles and we lose the support, or it could be due to the hormonal deficiency after the periods are gone. Till date, we had either the medical treatment tablets which are given or it was the surgical opportunity if at all. What has happened thus that, people was not happy either at times because it is not possible to cure everything, every time?

Now exciting new facility has been developed, which has been there abroad by name of Monalisa and familive, it is very popular abroad and ladies are actually following it more pertain it to surgery and medicine. Till date, we did not have that option in India at least not very easily available. We at Gayatri Nursing Home have introduced this technology, we have brought it from the UK and we are happy to offer it to you people. What we do is, we use the same methodology which the doctors in USA and UK are using. This is called vaginal rejuvenation.

It is a very simple procedure something like you go and get an OPD vaginal checkups done with a from your gynaecologist. The procedure is hardly for 5-10 minutes and you have to repeat it for every 2-3 weeks for total three sittings and then maintenance like any other laser therapy. The best part of laser therapy is that it repairs your own body collagen and it helps you not much side effects, it's a walk-in procedure no pain, no downtime and a very simple procedure and let me show you the instruments so that you are familiar with it before you go.

You must have seen this speculum which a gynaecologist must have a use for your gynae checkup, now what we are going to use for laser something like this, like this goes inside your vagina opens and we see through this what is inside. The same thing first we place the Sprow inside the vagina, this is the laser machine and this is a handpiece, which goes inside the Sprow, this is what we shoot and we just withdraw it every 1 cm shoot and withdraw it every 1 cm and in less than 5 minutes you are done. You will have no pain and you can return back to your normal activity simultaneously, that is the best part of it.

And we have brought it at an affordable price so that everyone can achieve it. If you want to know more about the procedure you are most welcome to contact me through Lybrate.com, my ID is Dr Gayatri Juneja and I am practising in Model Town, Gayatri Nursing Home. The setup is being introduced by the name of iony curedijuance, curedijuance means come and rejuvenate. You can come and feel young ever again and you don’t have to suffer anymore.

Health and Rejuvenation

Namaskar, my name is Dr Gayatri Juneja, I am practising gynaecologist in Model Town from last 20 years. We at Gayatri Nursing Home have always try to give the best to our patients. This year we have introduced a new unit in our centre by the name of ionycuredijuance. Means come and rejuvenate. We want all our ladies feeling good about themselves, not suffer from any problem. For this, we have got a laser machine imported from the UK, through this laser machine we are looking after certain condition which till now ladies used to feel a part of their life and nothing could have been done for it. First, on top, it is stress incontinence which is involuntary leakage of urine when a lady coughs, loves or sneezes anything which puts pressure on the tummy. Another condition which we are treating is atrophic vaginitis, atrophic means something which is gone dry then vaginitis, as the name suggests, goes with the vagina. Once the periods are gone the hormonal status of the lady goes very low and she starts feeling your vagina has gone dry she starts feeling recurrent vaginal infection, itching, dryness, problems during intercourse and generally she starts feeling lack of confidence in herself.

Now we have got this revolutionary technology which was actually being practising abroad for last 7, eight years. It goes by the name of Monalisa and families in USA and UK. We have got this technology now in India and its a very simple outpatient procedure, just like your gynae examination no downtime, no local anaesthesia or any type of anaesthesia is required. It's just a very simple procedure you can get it done in confidentiality, it takes 2 to 3 sittings of 5 to 10 minutes each and you feel young again. It is very economical, we have kept it at a very economical price so that a patient need not of a surgery and not feel happy and yet with this technology will not feel that you have wasted your money. And if you are interested in knowing more about it, you are most welcome to come and get yourself examined, have a talk with me we can have a cup of tea and then discuss over it. I am always available for all of you.

You can contact me through Lybrate.com and Gayatri Nursing Home Model Town. We are open from 11 to 1, every day for the gynae OPD procedure and emergency is available 24 hours. Thank you.

Symptoms, causes and treatment for Breast Cancer Patients

Hello friends. My name is Dr. ...

Symptoms, causes and treatment for Breast Cancer Patients

Hello friends. My name is Dr. Gayatri Juneja. I’m a practicing gynecologist in Model Town for the last 20 years. I’m a visiting consultant in Apollo Cradle Hospital Moti Nagar, and Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh, and Sunder Lal Hospital Ashok Nagar. It’s a great pleasure for me to talk to you about certain problems which I think is becoming very important for all of us to know. I am going to talk about Breast Cancer.

Unfortunately, even in India, cancer breast is becoming very common. And it is not that it is a cancer which we cannot pick up at time. The only thing we need is to be aware of it. Only if we know what is happening with our body, is only then we can do what is normal, only then we can see what is not normal, right? It is one of the breast cancer is one of the easiest cancers to pick up. How? My body is my own. I should know what’s happening to me. So minimum a lady can do is do a self examination. Teach your daughters how to do a self examination for the breast. If you find any lump, any time, if you feel there is some pain, which was not there, if you see the nipple is not in the normal position, it is retracted inside, if you see there is skin changes on your breast, if you see any size difference. See minor size difference will be there. That is a natural thing. But if you see there is drastic change, and if you are not comfortable with something, do not neglect it. It’s not at all a normal thing. Go, see a gynaecologist.

It is a confidential thing between you and your doctor. Let her examine you. Let her guide you. You give her a proper history, if you have taken any contraceptive pills, even I-pill is very dangerous. I’ll come to it later how. The thing is…your doctor has examined you, then she will guide you what has to be done. There are various ways of diagnosing cancer of breast. First step is, you do a self examination. First step is over. You find the lump, you go to a doctor. Your doctor will ask for a sonography, that is ultrasound of the breast. And another part of it is an x-ray of the breast. Sometimes in younger age group the breast is very dense, and you cannot diagnose anything on mammogram.

You still are suspecting something, then your doctor might ask for an MRI. MRI is very effective in diagnosing, but we do not suggest it as first line treatment, first line of diagnosis. Once it is confirmed that yes, there is a lump, then what we do is, we ask for a biopsy. Now biopsy can be in 2 forms. It can be taken through the needle, which we call FNAC – Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology, and other is open biopsy, where we remove the whole lump, and send it for testing. If the test comes negative, good, fine, everything is fine. If it comes positive, then further treatment depends upon the type. Then they will do a special CT scan for you, where the will diagnose if any lymph nodes are involved.

Depending on preliminary staging, your doctor will ask for a surgery. Now the surgery will…it is better that the whole breast gets removed. Or what has to be done will be diagnosed, because it is not a single person specialty, it is going to be a multi-specialty treatment then. Now let’s come down to who are the people who are at higher risk. Why should I consider that I am at higher risk? What…who are those people? First, specially after menopause, obesity. If your lifestyle is not at all healthy, your food habits you eat lot of non-veg and processed food, like pizzas and burgers and frozen food, yes you are at risk. Then comes genetics.

If you have a family history of cancer in your nani, dadi, your bua, maasi, cousin, ya sister ya brother, or even cancer of ovaries, you are at high risk. But that doesn’t mean who all have had the history of cancer will also develop this. You are at higher risk, but it is better only to be careful. Then comes very tall ladies it has been seen they are also prone for diabetes. Obesity, and people who have had hormonal replacement therapy with…and once you’re diagnosed don’t get scared. It is a curable cancer, and life expectancy with variable modalities these days is quite good. The quality of life is also good.

So my suggestion would be, to conclude, that please be aware of what is happening with you, and take good care of yourself. If you are healthy, only then you can look after your family. Thank you so much.

Sex During Pregnancy - When Should You Avoid It?

Love making during pregnancy is less talked about because it is a customary to distance pregnant ladies from intimacy. Many women even find it very uncomfortable to have sex during the pregnancy period as their body gets bigger. However, there are other ways you and your partner can opt for to satisfy your needs like caressing, holding each other and kissing. There are some partners who feel sex during pregnancy is the best moment for sex, while there are others who are feared and have their own concerns.

Sex During Pregnancy
Sex during pregnancy should be avoided. If at all done should be gentle, it should avoid pressing abdomen. However, it is safe in second trimester if woman is comfortable. Yes, it is alright for partners to have sex from second trimester onwards, if the woman has had a healthy pregnancy. This is because the thick mucus plug which seals the cervix in pregnant women safeguards the baby against any infection. The strong muscles of the uterus as well as the amniotic sac, keep the little one safe in the womb. NO damage can be caused by the penis of your partner to the baby while having sex. Women can feel some movement of their baby after orgasm. Couples need not worry about the baby, as in no case it would provide discomfort to the baby. The chances of having a premature baby are reduced at times by having sex regularly.

Conditions to Avoid Sex

 1. The conditions in pregnancy when it is better to avoid sex mainly include times when any spotting or bleeding occurs during early pregnancy. In such a case, the Doctors advise not to have sex for at least 14 weeks.
 2. Your doctor may even advise a pregnant woman not to have sex if she has a history of cervical illness, has had heavy bleeding, had a vaginal infection, and in case of low lying placenta.
 3. Pregnant woman experiencing frequent abdominal pain or cramps must also avoid sex during their pregnancy.

Sexual Behavior to Avoid During Pregnancy

 1. There are 2 ways that are not safe and must be avoided while having sex during pregnancy. The first way is oral sex. Any pregnant woman must not allow their spouse to blow air into the vaginal region. Blowing air into the vagina can cause air embolism, and this can be potentially serious for the mother as well as the baby.
 2. Pregnant women should not have sex with partners who have unknown sexual history as there are chances that he is infected with sexually transmitted diseases like HIV or Herpes. The diseases can be easily transmitted to the baby if you have sex with such a partner. It is better to avoid any complications and stay away from sex during the pregnancy period.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Post Menopausal Bleeding - All You Need To Know

Post Menopausal Bleeding - All You Need To Know

Most women attain menopause between the ages of late 40s and early 60s, the average age being about 51. This is an important milestone in a women-s gynecological history. One major change is altered female hormone levels, and this leads to a lot of physiological changes. From hot flashes to mood swings, there is also increased predisposition to osteoporosis and uterine cancer.

If you have not had your menstrual cycles for close to 12 months, chances are you are into menopause. So, that means absolutely no vaginal bleeding anymore whatsoever. However, if you experience bleeding, even spotting, be on the alert. It is not normal and needs to be examined, and if required, diagnosed and treated.
Postmenopausal bleeding or PMB as it is popularly called can be due to a variety of reasons. While it could be something as trivial as inflammation of the uterine or vaginal lining, it could also be an indication of more severe issues like cancer.

- Atrophic vaginitis - Decreasing hormonal levels lead to increased dryness and therefore inflammation of the vaginal and uterine tissue. This is one of the common causes of bleeding after menopause.
- Endometrial atrophy - Also caused by lower hormone levels, the lining of the body of the uterus gradually thins down and can get inflamed.
- Polyps - Noncancerous growths in the uterus, cervix, vulva, or vagina can also lead to bleeding
- Infections - General infection of any area along the uterine tract could lead to occasional bleeding
- Cancers - Though only 1 in 10 PMB cases turn out to be cancers, the prognosis improves with early diagnosis and intervention.
Diagnosis: As repeated above, reach out to your doctor if you notice postmenopausal bleeding. Diagnostic methods could include the following:
- Physical examination
- Transvaginal ultrasound
- Endometrial biopsy
- Hysteroscopy
- Dilatation and Curettage

Treatment: Needless to say, this would depend on the diagnosis.
For very minor cases with diagnosis like altered hormone levels, no treatment may be required other than modification of the hormone replacement therapy.

For endometrial atrophy and atrophic vaginitis, use of estrogen creams and pessaries would be sufficient.
Polyps would require removal followed by cauterization (application of slight heat) to stop the bleeding.
Cancer - this would depend on the type and location and require a combination of chemotherapy and surgery. Removal of the uterus also may be required in some cases.
So, if you have had bleeding of any sort after ayear of menopause, do not ignore it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Missing Periods - 5 Possible Reasons

Missing Periods - 5 Possible Reasons

The amount of emotional upheaval that periods, or no periods (for that matter) can cause, is something that every woman is aware of. It's normal to miss your period for different reasons occasionally, but develops to be a concern if this absence persists over a period of time. The condition is then termed as a case of secondary amenorrhea. Although most people are quick to consider pregnancy while dealing with the various reasons for missed periods, there are a number of possibilities which are seldom mulled over but should be considered in order to take the effective precautions and seek proper medical care:

1. Weight:
Body weight is responsible for affecting the hypothalamus and this may, in turn, upset your menstrual cycle. BMI level under 18-19 may result in triggering irregularities since enough estrogen will not be created. This is also why underweight women, who suffer from bulimia or anorexia, tend to miss their periods frequently.
On the other hand, overweight women may stop ovulating due to increase in the production of estrogen and therefore, have heavy, infrequent periods. Therefore, it is essential that body weight be regulated to avoid any disappointment at 'the time of the month.'
2. Stress:
Any type of physical or emotional stress is bound to affect your cycle. This is because, the production of stress hormones in the body increases and an elevated level of adrenaline and cortisol may impair the functioning of the reproductive system. Under stressful situations, the body employs its amino acids to assist the neurotransmitters to produce stress hormones over sex hormones. As a consequence, the chances of missing your periods increase.
3. Exercising Too Much:
While regular workout is indispensable for battling a sedentary lifestyle, overdoing it might cause your body to produce lesser estrogen and delay your periods. Women, who are into athletics and gymnastics, are more likely to suffer from amenorrhea. In fact, other aspects of over-exercising, like sleeping less, fasting, and infections also contribute to such irregularities.
4. Brest Feeding:
Prolactin is the hormone that aids in milk production and may also repress ovulation for a while. Many breastfeeding moms may not get their periods for a month or more as a result. But this doesn't do away with your chances of getting pregnant. A span of three months is expected to pass before the abnormalities are done away with.
5. Food Allergies:
Celiac disease or untreated gluten allergy can directly harm hormone production. They are directly related to your gut health and your adrenal glands which is why they can influence the sex hormone creation. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Hello dear Lybrate user. A balanced diet is all you need for a healthy pregnancy. Can increase the quantity of milk in your diet, two or three almond, walnut, lot of fruit (but less mangoes). Indian diet is the best. All the best for your baby.
