Backache in young age is commonly due to 1. Muscle strain resulting from improper posture. 2. Intervertebral disc bulge or prolapse. Follow these to get relief. 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen round the clock for pain relief 2.Take rest for 3 to 4 days but avoid total bed rest. 4. Do back strengthening and stretching exercises daily once pain is relieved. 5.Apply analgesic cream over back followed by warm fomentation. 6. Keep pillow behind your knees at bedtime. While sleeping on sides keep pillow between knees. 7. Do not bend and lift weights. 8. If back pain is accompanied with radiating leg pain or tingling , numbness or weakness, consult immediately Don't worry such backaches resolve with proper care as advised above. For further queries consult again.

Treatment is a Good Physiotherapy in you case. Treatment and Recovery time depends upon the severity of injury. You didn't mention your complain and difficult in Activities Of Daily Living ( ADL ) if any. Usually it takes three to four weeks for maximum and optimal recovery provided proper rehabilitation is done. Rehabilitation = Pain Relief + Strengthening + Proprioception training. Good luck.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

1. I often get severe back pain. Please advice, what could be the reason?
2. What are the symptoms of Thyroid. Pls help?
1. For back pain: exercise regularly including stretching, yoga and exercises by lying on back. Do not sit at one place for longer time, avoid bending and lifting heavy weight. Apply orthomove oil over back twice daily. You may need internal medication. Consult for that. 2. Two types of thyroid changes hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. In hypothyroid, there is weight gain, laziness, lethargy, hair fall, irregular menses in females, chilliness etc. In hyperthyroid there is profuse perspiration, feeling hot all the time, weight loss, heavy bleeding, restlessness etc.

Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Simple Knee Exercises would help to strengthen the quadriceps muscle which is the key muscle. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping a soft ball underneath the knee and you have to keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Knee Pain unable to walk one step with walker Her knees would have been totally damaged due to arthritis of both the knees. That's the reason she is unable to walk one step as there will be knee rigidity.
