I am 67 years old. Due to a fall last year, it resulted in a spinal compression fracture. Mri report is: cervical spine shows mild spondylotic changes cv junction is normal. Disc dehydration is noticed at all levels c5-6: mild posterior disc osteophytic complex causing mild impingement on thecal sac. No obvious nerve root compression. Spinal cord: shows normal signal intensity. No focal lesions. Impression: >acute mild compression fracture of l! vertibral body with diffuse marrow ocdcma. >no retropulsion. >old anterior wedge compression fracture of t11 vertebral body. Sacralization of l5 vertebra with rudimentary l5-s1 disc. >bilateral neural foramina are compromised at l5 causing impingement on bilateral exiting l4 nerve roots due to spondylotic grade I spondylolisthesis & pseudo disc herniation. Following this I was on medication consisting of pain killers, antibioticaand calcium tablets. Now I am not using any drug. I donot want to go for surgery. I am havinf constant blow back pain due to which myu movement is very much restricted. I am unable to sit on the floor and even with effort I sit, it is very difficult to get up. Can you please suggest a follow up action so that my pain is reduced and I will bwe able to move without much pain. Thanks.

Not all patients of backache & pain joints need surgery. Most of them can be managed without operation rule out vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Physiotherapy usually helps any way take caldikind plus (mankind) 1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days it may have to be further investigated make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Diabetes must be controlled beyond any shadow of doubt.

This is because of calcium deficiency and try to eat diet rich in calcium like milk, it's products, green leafy vegetables, egg white, bananas etc.

Hi Thanks for your query and Welcome to Lybrate. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi. Actually pain at calf/Leg region can be due to many reasons , commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to Tendons, Nerves, Blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be : - Ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - Take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - Stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - Intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - Slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - We will get some blood tests for you - Serum Vitamin D and serum Potassium levels, ESR and CRP Once you have all these reports then you can contact me as i can advise you for proper supplementation Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Back pain may be due to strain, sprain, weather change etc. *Avoid bending forward while working on lap top or for any other work. *Don’t sit continuously working on laptop etc. Get up periodically and move around. *Restrict bike driving as far as possible. *Don’t carry laptop or any load on your shoulder. Carrying very light loads equally with both hands is better *Sit straight so that back bone gets proper support. A dining chair is better than a laid back sofa. *You can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good *Soft bed will not give proper support to your back bone. Hard bed with thin mattress and thin pillow is better. *Get yourself tested whether you have spondylitis problem. Homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take Calc fluor 200--once daily in the morning.

Calf stretches standing calf stretch stand away from a wall and put your fight foot behind you and be sure your toes are facing forward. Lean forward at the ankle while bending the right knee and keeping your heel on the ground. Hold this for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat 10 times a twice a day.

I have acute waist pain during one week for that I cannot sleep properly especially in morning please help me out.
This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. It looks like you are anaemic. If you have back pain after you sit for long hours then it is due to your haemoglobin levels as it is important to check that. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain.

My mom is above 55 age. Her left leg is getting bent by the knee, Doctor its due to calcium. I do not know for sure, because lots of people her age suffer some or other pain in the leg kind of problem, please advise of the exact condition. Thanks.

Bent in leg can be due to spongy bones and this can be due to Vitamin -D and calcium deficiency and there are number of reasons for deficient calcium absorption in body and a few reasons are------ 1.Diet deficient in calcium 2.No proper sunlight intake 3.No calcium supplements intake after Menopause and after menopause calcium levels start depleting from body at a faster rate due to hormonal changes and this is the time when a woman should take extra care of her diet and supplements . So start taking a proper calcium and Vitamin-D diet but before this please go for following blood tests empty stomach immediately--------CBC,ESR,THYROID PROFILE,CALCIUM,VITAMIN-D.

Pl boil ginger, black pepper, Tulsi and long pepper in water for ten minutes. While warm sip one glass twice a day. Take 1 tsp turmeric and 1/4 tsp Giloy satv with this water. Report after three days.

Hello, is there any history of injury or hurt to the area? do share your reports and rest of the symptoms with me. Medication: meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - arnica 200 and rhus tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply schwabe's topi-arnica and topi mp gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it. Get back to me thereafter.

Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear mcr chappels which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain.

Hello lybrate user, - why it is coming is you know its your working pattern. - you need to do some physical exercise or yogasanas to relax your muscles - ling time sitting may lead to compression of intervertebral discs hence you need to take a break every two hrs of work and have a light walk. - apply ksheerabala taila to the back before bath which strengthen your joints and muscles thank you.

Hi this is Dr.Vyas u have to do hot fermentation, back extension exercises and stretching of hamstring and glutius (hip join). If possible to go a physiotherapy center then do initially ift for 2 days then Ultrasound therapy for 5-7 days. I will be cure quickly.

Hello, 1. You can apply volini gel 1% local application twice a day for 3-5 days 2. Hot fomentation twice a day for 3 days I am giving to some common reasons for leg pain 1. Generalized weakness 2. Anaemia 3. Physical exertion and any trauma 4. Lack of protein in diet 5. Any infection present on leg or foot 6. Muscle weakness 7. Abrupt start/ stop of physical exercise 8. Vit d and calcium deficiency Consult physician for further management.
