At the age of 2 years pre schoolers speak more than few words. I child's understanding is OK and only verbal communication. I.e expression is lagging, a speech therapist / speech pathologist will be able to guide you how to interact with the child to elicit responses and develop communication using suitable modalities. It has been observed that children who enrol in early intervention show better prognosis compared to children who seek delayed diagnosis and treatment. If there is not much lag compared to peer group, home speech stimulation will help. Otherwise speech therapist will be able to develop expressive language skills. Good luck.

Dear Lybrate User, Stool pattern for babies have a wide spectrum. If a baby doesn't pass stool for 3 days or he passed 10-12 times per day is normal. If the baby is passing stool every time he is having feed is normal. It will gradually settle down. So need not to worry. Yes the baby can have cold from the mother. The best way to prevent is to wear a face mask while feeding and caring the baby. Thanks.

What is Rickets? How to Prevent Your CHILD From the Disorder?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
What is Rickets? How to Prevent Your CHILD From the Disorder?

A nutritional disorder, the problem of rickets occurs if your child suffers from a deficiency of calcium, phosphate or Vitamin D. It causes softened and damaged bones, skeletal deformities, impaired development of the bone's growth plate (a spot of growing tissue found near the end of a long bone in adolescents and children) and stunted growth.

Here are few very simple ways you can prevent your child from getting it:

1. Having Vitamin D and calcium rich foods - One of the best ways to prevent this nutritional disorder from affecting your child is by making sure he or she have foods that are high in Vitamin D and calcium. Egg yolks, fish oil or fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are some of the Vitamin D foods that your child can have to strengthen his bones. Even foods that have Vitamin D added to it such as cereals, orange juice, milk and infant formula can also be given to your child. Sources of calcium can be soyabeans, nuts, broccoli, cabbage, cheese and yoghurt.

2. Going out in the sun - Considered to be an excellent source of Vitamin D, getting your child exposed to sunlight is another excellent way of getting most of this nutrient, as well as preventing him or her from developing rickets. Although the exposure time may vary from individual to individual, about 10-15 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen can help.

3. Having Vitamin D supplements - Even the consumption of Vitamin D supplements can reduce your child's risk of getting rickets. Since mother's milk contains less than the recommended Vitamin D amount, infants too need to be put on Vitamin D supplements of 400 IU each day. For teenagers and young children, the recommended dosage is 600 IU of Vitamin D every day.

ARE MOBILE PHONES ARE DANGEROUS TO KIDS ?
According to research published in October in the journal Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine, children absorb significantly more cell phone radiation than previously thought.
This is because children have smaller heads and thinner skulls than adults, which means their bone marrow can absorb up to 10 times the radiation that an adult's might.
While this doesn't tell us if phones are more dangerous for children, it does suggest that there's a need for caution with children regarding phone usage until more research is done.

My baby is presently 3 & half years old and I believe she got some psychological shortfall in her attitude as she behaves very unusual frequently wherever she belongs, irrespective at home or school or elsewhere. We, parents are deeply concerned about her ongoing. Nothing got productive even to see a specialist doctor. She always used to say" nothing feel well (kuch achha nehi lag raha hai)" despite presenting various mind game. Such a small kid & with such a manner looks very unimpressive and uncomfortable indeed! Feeding to her is the most awkward and troublesome job to us. The most crazy thing is that she used to cry and shout (bizarre) almost throughout the day which makes us anxiety and thus may lead to break her health. Nothing around us can make her anger/obstinacy/ irritation/impatience in control. FYI, nobody of our predecessors was hailed such kind of characteristics nor presently we belong. Our baby is everything to us, so please advise how to coup up with this situation and how to keep well my baby in the days coming. Is it curable or else need to treat other way? Thanking you with regards,

It appears more and more from the brief that you have shared that he may be still stuck in his ?terrible twos?. For your information, it is at two years that children discover that they are no longer the center of the world, and it upsets them so that they want to test boundaries to see how much you will tolerate him before he either makes you reject him or he learns to control his urges and learns that you will have needs to be met too sometimes, and only after that his needs will be met: this is a very important learning he must achieve around that age. May be he has not gone through that phase happily. I suggest that you give him a lot of physical contact and enjoy his company. He needs to understand that whatever happens you will love him. Where the eating is concerned do not make a lot of fuss around it. Just keep him in front of the food and give him time to eat or even feed him. If he does not eat for some time nothing will happen. When he is hungry, he will want food and will also ask for the same. That is when you can give him the food. As long as he is active, there is nothing too serious to worry about. I hope you have taken him for all the necessary medical checks to rule out any physical cause. In the meantime there are some questions that I would love answered or for you to take him to a child psychiatrist. My questions: Was the conception normal? Was there a miscarriage or abortion before this child was born or after? How was the nine months of pregnancy for the mother i.e. was she under any kind of stress? Was the pregnancy normal? Was there any threat to the pregnancy? Was she on any medication? Was there any need for supplements? What was her emotional condition? Did she like the pregnancy? Was she happy during and about the pregnancy? Did she get good support from you? Was the delivery normal and on the due date? How long was he breast fed? Did he have any problems with bedwetting etc.? This information will help even a counselor to bring further insight into this problem. If some of these questions raise any serious concerns, you can help the child resolve it with some professional help from a child counselor.

I would suggest that though good treatments are available, go for termination if diagnosis at 13 weeks is confirmed. Get a second opinion through ultrasound to diagnose AVSD at 13 weeks.

1. How much useful/not useful goat milk (properly sterilised) for infants below 12 months of age? 2. What benefits of it to human life?

General Physician,
1. How much useful/not useful goat milk (properly sterilised) for infants below 12 months of age? 2. What benefits of...
While cow's milk has about seventeen percent fatty acids, goat's milk averages thirty five percent fatty acids, making it more nutritionally wholesome. In fact, up to 50% of people with lactose intolerance to cow's milk find that they can easily digest goat's milk, especially if it is raw..The Benefits of Goat Milk Goat’s milk offers a wide variety of health benefits, with very few of the negative side effects of drinking regular cow milk. 1. Reaction to Inflammation Some research suggests that one of the main benefits of goat milk is that it may benefit inflammation. Another reason why it is easier for people with bowel inflammation to drink goat’s milk, instead of cow’s milk..2. Environmentally Friendly Goats requires far less space and food than cows. Typically, you can comfortably raise six goats on the same acreage as two cows. 3. Metabolic agent Studies done at the USDA and Prairie View A&M University, link goat’s milk to an increased ability to metabolize iron and copper, especially amongst individuals with digestion and absorption limitations. Besides drinking goat’s milk, you can also take a digestive enzymes supplement to help with this also. 4. Bio-availability Another main health benefit of goat milk, is that it is closer to human mother’s milk than cow’s milk is. Because it has a chemical make up that is much closer to human milk, it is easier to digest and assimilate in the human body

My daughter is 5 years old, getting increase abdominal portion since 6 months. Not taking much more fatty food yet her weight is 27 kgs, height 3'7" Is it normal for this age of a growing child OR should she has to go for a complete medical check up. Please advise.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)

Her height is ok, but weight is more. If she healthy and active stop giving her fatty things and ask her to do more outdoor games and physical activities. If she is having mild fever or lethargy and inactive consult a doctor.

Remind your child to go to the bathroom immediately before they go to bed. •Limit late night fluid intake. Usually no fluid intake within 3 hours prior to bedtime. If your child goes to bed several hours earlier than you do, it is often helpful to wake them up for a bathroom visit before you go to bed. •Avoid giving them chocolate or drinks that contain caffeine as they can increase the the urine output. Praise the child for staying dry. Never shame or punish them for wetting their bed. Consider getting a calendar and noting every dry night. The child is then rewarded for an agreed upon number of dry nights. If he has a relapse, you simply restart the count. This is always done in a matter of fact fashion. Your child is absolutely not doing this on purpose, and introducing shame and hurt into this situation certainly does not hasten the resolution process nor does it enhance the parent-child relationship. •Confide in the child the fact that you were also a bed wetter, if in fact you were. Explain that it might be hereditary, so that it will make him feel less guilty and less ashamed of himself. Consult us for medical treatment.
