Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Weed addiction comes under SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ADDICTION. Deaddiction treatment is best suited for such addictions. Medically assisted drug detoxification or alcohol detoxification alone is ineffective as a treatment for addiction. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends detoxification followed by both medication (where applicable) and behavioral therapy, followed by relapse prevention.

Quadriceps strengthening exercises- Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hi, My grandmother who is 75 years old is on dialysis for the past 1 year. She has had history of knee problems (like pain, swelling etc) for the past 20 years but the general massage and medications were followed. Recently for the past 1 week, one of the knee is hurting very badly even when she is sitting (we suspect it might be due to wrong massage). There is swelling on that knee too. We got her examined in one of the hospitals in gurgaon and they suggest knee replacement to be done as the pain killers are not subsiding the pain. She is old, has 2 dialysis every week and so we are not sure if it would be the right decision or not. Also, in order to proceed with the surgery, the doctors here have conducted two dialysis within 24 hours so that her parameters are stable. Could you please suggest what should we do?

Dear Lybrate user, from what I can understand your grandmother is already a patient of ESRD and on dialysis. Such patients are quite high risk for any surgery and especially a major surgery like knee replacement. So for once conservative measures should be tried. Also during dialysis we do give injection heparin which is a form of blood thinner and as you are saying some massage or manipulation was done hence there is also a chance of bleeding into the joint or hemarthrosis which can cause increased pain swelling and pain. There are also conditions which are related to severe renal failure and might not improve with replacement. Hence a proper evaluation should be done before going ahead with a major surgery.

Its the spasm in the muscle which makes the bone prominent in case of pain. Do hot fomentation, any gel you can apply and do exercises. It will go away.

Hello doctor,
Actually I'm having some pain in my fingers joints in both hands from 2 weeks.
Specially more in index ...
It is called as Rheumatic arthritis. If your pain is more in the distal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is Rheumatic arthritis. Wear elbow brace and wrist brace which will make her to feel warm and that will make the joints become firm. Hot water fermentation will help Knee cap will also help to prevent the damaged cartilages. If your pain is more in the distal joints, ie. In the upper limbs if the pain is present in the fingers/wrist and in the lower limbs it the pain is present in the toes/ ankle, then we shall definitely say it is Rheumatic arthritis. Which joints you have pain? If your proximal joints (ie. Shoulder, hip & knee has pain) then you can pour hot (warm) water in that area to reduce the inflammation. If you have pain in the distal joints ie. Wrist, fingers, ankle, toes then you can wear either elbow brace or wrist brace which will help you to feel warm and very protective. And also immerse the distal joints in the hot water tub which will help you to reduce the pain. Consult the near by physiotherapy clinic and also consult a general physician to check with your ESR levels to check whether you have inflammation The sound what you hear is called as Crepitus /ˈkrɛpɪtəs/ (also termed crepitation) is a medical term to describe the grating, crackling or popping sounds and sensations experienced under the skin and joints or a crackling sensation due to the presence of air in the subcutaneous tissue. Popping Knees and Crackling Knuckles. Occasionally hearing pops, snaps, and crackles when you bend your knees doesn’t necessarily mean you have arthritis. The kneecap (patella) is the small, convex bone that sits at the front of the knee, shielding the joint.
