I have checked 2 times with a physician in last 1 month. Found out my BP on higher side 88-135.
I exercise regularly....
BP of 135/88 is still ok, what you need is salt reduction in your diet and exercise, since you r a sportsman you must be exercising regularly so now reduce the salt intake by reducing the intake of pickels, papads, cheese, butter, chips and wafers and all other foods that have high salt content. Also go for regular BP checkup’s.

Anyone with high cholesterol levels should indulge in regular workout. True or false? Take this quiz to know more.

1. Which of these is an important part of high cholesterol management?
• Living a deprived life
• Eating saturated fats and trans-fatty acids
• Choosing healthier fats
• Not drinking any alcohol
Answer: Choosing healthier fats
When you are affected with high cholesterol levels, you should choose the fats very wisely. You must try to avoid trans-fatty acids and saturated fats at any cost which are mainly availed from dairy products, processed meat, and packed foods. Make sure you avoid cookies, crackers, snack cakes which are commercially produced as they tend to increase your bad cholesterol levels.
Tip: Eat a lot of pecans, almonds, avocados and cook the food in canola or olive oils since they are viable sources of healthy fats.

What should you do to bring down the cholesterol levels?
• Limiting dietary cholesterol
• Eating whole grains
• Choosing fruits and vegetables
• All of the above
Answer: All of the above
The most important sources of concentrated cholesterol include egg yolks, organ meats and whole milk products. Thus, you should avoid these foods and replace them with lean meats, beans and skimmed milk. Moreover, it is advised to choose whole grain products which promote the health of your heart. Also, fruits and vegetables are high in dietary fiber which helps you to feel fuller longer and reduce the burden of cholesterol.
Tip: Experiment with seasonal fruits and stir fry various kinds of vegetables to prepare a healthy meal. Also stock up on oats, whole-wheat pasta and brown rice.

People with high cholesterol levels should avoid eating fish.
• True

There are various types of heart-healthy fishes including tuna, cod, halibut and others which have a meagre amount of total fat and cholesterol than poultry and meat. Also, fishes like mackerel, salmon and herring have high amounts of Omega 3-fatty acids which help in reducing cholesterol levels.
Tip: Eat a lot of these fishes, every day.

Weight loss is a crucial component of reducing cholesterol levels.
• True
• False
Answer: True
Excessive weight increases the cholesterol levels and therefore, doctors always recommend to lose at least 5 to 10 pounds in order to see a fall in the cholesterol levels. You must take a close look at your eating habits and find out what are the obstacles to weight loss and how is it possible to overcome them.
Tip: You should try to set goals which are sustainable and can be followed for a long time.

Anyone with high cholesterol levels should indulge in regular workout.
• True
• False
Answer: True
Did you know that regular workouts can aid in reducing the cholesterol levels? Work up to 30 to 60 minutes each day which can be in the form of swimming, biking, strength training, and elliptical training or any intensive workout. Take a brisk walk each day for at least 20 minutes. You can also do interval training for reaping the benefits of exercise without straining yourself. If you are not at all into exercise, you can start with brisk walking for at least 30 minutes each day. To keep up the motivation, find an exercise buddy or join a workout group.

Slower Heartbeat - How It Can Make You Feel?

Multi-Speciality Clinic
Cardiologist, Hyderabad
Slower Heartbeat - How It Can Make You Feel?

Having bradycardia implies that your heart beats very slowly. For the vast majority, a heart beats from sixty to hundred pulses a minute while very few are viewed as ordinary. In case your heart beats under sixty times each minute, it is slower than usual. A moderate heart rate can be ordinary and solid. On the other hand it could be an indication of an issue with the heart's electrical framework.

For a few people, moderate heart rate does not create any issues. It can be an indication of being exceptionally fit. Sound youthful grown-ups and sports persons frequently have heart rates of fewer than sixty beats a minute. In other individuals, bradycardia is an indication of an issue with the heart's electrical framework. It implies that the heart's regular pacemaker isn't working right or that the electrical pathways of the heart are disturbed.

A moderate heart rate may make you:

  1. Feel blurry eyed or woozy.
  2. Feel short of breath and feel that it’s harder to work out.
  3. Feel tired.
  4. Have neck pain or an inclination that your heart is beating or rippling (palpitations).
  5. Feel bewildered or experience difficulty concentrating.
  6. Black out, if a moderate heart rate causes a drop in pulse.

A few people do not have side effects, or their indications are mild to the point that they think they are quite recently part of getting more seasoned. You can discover how quick your heart is beating by checking your heart rate. In case your pulse is moderate or uneven, talk to a specialist.

How bradycardia is dealt with depends on what is causing it. Treatment likewise relies on symptoms. Given below are some of the symptoms:

  1. In case harm to the heart's electrical framework causes your heart to pulsate too quickly, you will presumably need a pacemaker. A pacemaker is a gadget put under your skin that revises the moderate heart rate. Some people might have a kind of bradycardia that requires a pacemaker.
  2. In case another medical issue, for example, hypothyroidism or an electrolyte irregularity, is bringing about a moderate heart rate, treating that issue may cure the bradycardia.
  3. In case a medicine is making your heart to pulsate too gradually, your specialist may change the dosage or recommend an alternate drug. In case you can't quit taking that medicine, you may require a pacemaker.

Bradycardia is frequently the aftereffect of another heart condition, so finding a way to carry on with a heart-solid way of life will enhance your general health. This may include:

  1. Showing at least a bit of restraint and dedication to a good diet routine that includes a considerable amount of organic products, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and low-fat or nonfat dairy foods.
  2. Being gradually on most, if not all, days of the week. Your specialist can let you know what type of exercise is okay for you.
  3. Getting more fit in case you have to, and maintaining a solid weight.
  4. Not smoking.
  5. Overseeing other medical issues, for example, hypertension or elevated cholesterol.

8 Home Remedies for Managing High Blood Pressure!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Jaipur
8 Home Remedies for Managing High Blood Pressure!

Blood pressure readings above 140/90 are classified as hypertension or high blood pressure. There are no specific symptoms, but prolonged hypertension can lead to a heart stroke.

Listed below are a few ways to reduce high blood pressure:

  1. Limit your salt intake: The sodium content in salt disrupts the balance of fluids in your body, leading to high blood pressure. To avert hypertension, cut down on your daily salt intake to a maximum of one tablespoon.
  2. Indulge in physical exercise: If you are suffering from pre-hypertension (mild hypertension), it can be avoided or controlled by engaging in physical exercise such as brisk walk, swimming or playing a sport. Exercising regularly can lower blood pressure levels by 5 mmHg (millimetres of mercury).
  3. Bask in the sun: Exposure to sunlight alters the nitric oxide levels in your blood which leads to the reduction in blood pressure. Thus, soaking up the sun can prove to be a great way to avoid a stroke in future.
  4. Add ginger and cardamom to your dietThe two spices, ginger and cardamom, provide required warmth to your body and help in stabilising the circulation of blood in your body and help in bringing down blood pressure levels.
  5. Add more green vegetables to your diet: Green vegetables, preferably the leafy ones, are rich in nutrients such as magnesium, iron and folate which help in maintaining the blood circulation that is essential for combating high blood pressure.
  6. Switch to decaf coffee: If you can’t give up coffee entirely, switch to decaf beverages as caffeine is responsible for tightening your blood vessels which leads to increased stress and blood pressure levels.
  7. Start drinking tea: Herbals teas such as chamomile, ginger, green tea and hibiscus tea contain herbal properties which soothe your blood vessels and nourish the blood flow. Herbal teas also help in hydration and rejuvenation of fluids in your body.
  8. Update your playlist: Music is proven to be therapeutic and updating your playlist with soothing Sufi, Celtic or Instrumental tunes can help you relax your mind and combat stress related blood pressure spikes.

Normal heart rate varies from 60-100bpm. Tachycardia or increase heart rate can be due to thyroid dysfunction, anemia, heart diseases, stress, anxiety, electrolyte imbalance, etc. Get yourself investigated for the same. Cut Down On Caffeine-Too much coffee, cola, tea, chocolate, diet pills, or stimulants in any form can put you at risk for tachycardia. You can consult a cardiologist to get investigated for the same.
