For long, under eye dark circles have been associated with stress, fatigue, or lack of sound sleep. However, there are a lot more factors that contribute to the appearance of dark circles. It is a well-known fact that the skin under our eyes is thinner as compared to the other body parts.

Dark circles appear when there is a dilation of the blood vessels present under eyes. It is these dilated and swollen blood vessels that appear as dark circles under the eyes.

The dilation, inflammation, irritation or rupture of the blood vessels can be an outcome of

  1. An increased use of eye makeups, skin allergies, dermatological conditions such as Eczema.
  2. Increased exposure to sun rays.
  3. Dark circles can be a hereditary condition.
  4. The dark circles can also be an outcome of the eye bags or protruding fats pockets.
  5. With age, the lower eyelid (along with the rest of the face) may lose volume.

Treatments for Dark Circles

  1. In case the dark circles are an outcome of allergies or eczema, consult a doctor. The use of over the counter antihistamine medicines can reduce the swelling and the puffiness to a great extent, thereby reducing the dark circles. Caution: Avoid self-medication. The medicines used should be the doctor recommended.
  2. Cosmetic Blepharoplasty: This is a surgical procedure to enhance the appearance of your eyes by taking care of problems including dark circles, eye bags, droopy eyelids. Depending on the requirement, Blepharoplasty helps to get rid of the excess fats, muscles, skin or tissues either from the upper or lower eyelids or both (lower eyelids in the case of dark circles) to provide significant improvement.
  3. Chemical peels and Acugel therapy: Peels and acugel treatment help in reducing dark circles and eye bags to a great extent.
  4. The Laser therapy that uses an intense light beam into the target skin area (in this case, the skin under the eyes) can play an instrumental role in reducing the dark circles, thereby making the eyes look younger and rejuvenated.
  5. One can also try out some home and natural remedies such as
    • Potato, known for its bleaching properties can be used to deal with dark circles. Extract the potato juice (you can grate the potato). Dip a cotton in the potato juice and apply it on your closed eyes ensuring the dark circles are covered. Rinse off the eyes after 10-15 minutes with cold water. You can carry out the same procedure with rose water to reduce the dark circles.
    • Applying chilled cucumber slices or chilled green tea bags on the dark circles will produce fruitful results.
    • Packed with Vitamin E, almond oil can work wonders to reduce the dark circles. Gently massage the dark circles with almond oil before retiring to bed and then rinse it off (use cold water) the next morning.
  6. In addition to this, make sure you follow a healthy sleep routine (6-8 hours of daily sleep is a must).
  7. Take care of your diet. Foods such as eggs, salmon, green tea or avocados can produce significant improvement in the case of dark circles.
  8. Keep the body hydrated.

Botox & Fillers - How They Work?

One thing most people do every day is to look in the mirror and analyze their looks. The face is needless to say the most analyzed part, and most people would want some or the other feature changed. This need increases with age, when fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, crow’s feet, etc., begin to make an appearance.

The skin has multiple layers, with the inner dermal layer having collagen and fibrous tissue which is covered by the topmost layer, epidermis. Though the epidermis is visible, the underlying layers give skin all its features from firmness to color to tone. Most skincare products work at improving these underlying layers, be it hyaluronic acid or vitamin A/E, or retinol, or benzoyl peroxide. These products can be used to improve skin tone, texture, glow or color. In addition to all the products that are available, Botox too made an entry into the market.

How they work?
With age, all tissues degenerate, and so do the skin’s underlying layers. Also, with poor food habits, the skin may not be getting the required nutrition to regenerate itself adequately. Therefore, these products are used directly on the skin to act as “fillers.” All the chemicals used as fillers contain essential skin ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C, vitamin A, salicylic acid, etc. Injected directly into the skin, they have a higher impact than when taken as a food or applied on the skin. The skin is able to regenerate better, and therefore improve appearance. The result is a glowing skin which is radiant and youthful.

How is it done?

  • Most treatments are in-office, walk-in procedures wherein each sitting takes about 20 minutes.
  • In a relaxed environment, the filler is injected into the skin, and the patient rests for about 10 minutes before walking out.
  • These injections are useful in improving tone, firming up the skin, and reducing sagginess and droopiness.
  • Repeat sittings are required once in 3 to 4 months to maintain the appearance.

Botox: Initially, this neurotoxin was used to treat diseases such as paralysis, but then its cosmetic use was gradually established. It is used when fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. It acts on the nerve endings and paralyzes them, thereby preventing wrinkles and reducing sagging.

How is it done?
This is again done as an outpatient procedure, and will take about 20 to 30 minutes. Not just wrinkles, even fine lines especially on the forehead can be eliminated with Botox. Production of skin proteins such as collagen and elastin are improved after Botox treatment, giving skin a youthful, radiant appearance.

While ageing is still inevitable, a youthful appearance can be prolonged and managed with options such as fillers and Botox.

Weight gain needs patience and happens gradually with improved appetite and sensible eating. Weight gain needs a healthy wholesome diet with increase in proteins, healthy fats and required carbohydrate intake. 6 Types Of Bariatric Surgery You Can Think of!

Obesity can shorten your lifespan by decades and also limit and reduce the quality of your life. Obesity cannot always be controlled by dieting and exercise and thus more complicated means such as bariatric surgery has to be employed.

Types of bariatric surgery
Most bariatric surgeries either limit your ability to consume food and thus make you feel fuller quickly or limit the absorption of nutrients from the food you eat. Certain surgeries use a combination of the two in varying degrees. Mentioned below are the most commonly employed forms of bariatric surgery –

  1. Gastric Balloon – This is a form of surgery wherein a specially made balloon is inserted into the stomach. In certain cases even two balloons are inserted into the stomach to reduce the room left for food. This causes you to have less food resulting in weight loss over a period of time.
  2. Gastric Sleeve – This is a form of surgery wherein a major portion of the stomach is removed through the procedure. Also known as Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, the surgeon creates a pouch within the stomach which essentially becomes a connecting tube between the esophagus and the large intestine. The reduced stomach size causes fewer hunger related enzymes and hormones to be secreted, causing less hunger and also reducing your food intake capability. This results in weight loss over a period of time.
  3. Gastric Bypass – Gastric bypass uses the combination of two techniques, lesser absorption of minerals as well as reduced intake capacity. In this method, a part of the stomach is rearranged akin to the gastric sleeve. However the leftover portion of the stomach is not removed as it can continue to secrete stomach acids. Because of the reduced size of the stomach, you would eat less and if you happen to over eat, it would cause dumping syndrome (quick and repeated bowel evacuation) which would deter you from eating more.
  4. Lap band surgery – This is one form of surgery where the stomach is not reduced or cut but rather limited by a band that is put around it. This band constricts the stomach and causes the upper part to become smaller. Hence you would feel fuller from eating less, thus resulting in weight loss.
  5. V-bloc therapy – This is a very modern approach to bariatric procedures which works in a very similar way to a pacemaker. A device is placed just under your skin and two leads or wires are connected to the vagal nerve. This nerve is responsible for sending the hunger signals to the brain from the stomach. This device acts as a block to the nerve signals and thus ensures you eat less.
  6. Duodenal switch – This surgery is also known as a Biliopancreatic Diversion wherein the surgeons cut out the part of the stomach similar to a gastric sleeve surgery but also make adjustments to the pancreatic chain and the small intestine to reduce the absorption of minerals.

Dermabrasion is a procedure where a brush made up of wire or a roughly edged diamond wheel is used on the skin to remove the upper layer from the skin. The rotation of the brush causes the upper layer of the skin to come off and may cause bleeding. The skin that comes off is replaced with new skin.

Why is it done?

  1. The procedure may be used to treat various surgical scars.
  2. Usually this procedure is used to get rid of acne scars.
  3. The procedure is used to treat various superficial growths that occur on the skin such as small cysts.
  4. It may also be used to treat wrinkles around the mouth.

Procedure
The area where the procedure is carried out is marked and then cleaned properly. Local anesthesia is used to numb the skin followed by an application of ice pack for about half an hour. If the preceding procedures do not harden the skin enough, then a freezing spray may be used to firm up the skin. Gauze may be used to restrict the bleeding which results from the procedure. The area is then cleaned and ointment is applied.

Post-surgery
The depth and size of the procedure determines, how much time the recovery process will take. For example, a small patch of skin will take little time to heal compared to a full face dermabrasion. It usually takes 6 to 7 days for the skin to regrow, which is pink in color. The color tends to fade away in 2 to 3 months. Usually, patients do not suffer from pain, but if you do have some pain then you can take pain relievers. Corticosteroids may be used to treat swellings, if any.

You need to follow certain precautionary measures after the surgery:

  1. Regular cleaning of the skin to avoid various infections of the skin.
  2. Regular changing of the dressing and the ointment to speed up the healing process.
  3. Sun exposure needs to be avoided as the new skin is prone to damage. You may use sunscreen to protect yourself from sun rays.

Skin lightening and brightening products have become extremely popular and are aggressively promoted by film stars, cricket players and fair-skinned models on TV, print and other media. These products promise you not only a lighter and flawless skin but also promote the fact that with this you will be able to get your perfect life-partner and your perfect chosen job! Many of these products do not disclose their exact composition, while some list many chemical names which are simply incomprehensible. However, some of these unregulated products could actually contain ingredients that are beneficial for your skin, but some could be quite harmful:

  • Many products may contain mercury as a skin lightening ingredient, which is a toxic metal which can lead to brain and kidney damage.

  • Steroids are commonly used in lightening creams and cause permanent thinning of the skin. These chemicals also increase the risk of skin infections, aggravate acne, cause stretch marks, precipitate bruising and make your skin more sensitive and red.

  • Hydroquinone is a prescription product and if used under proper supervision is useful for skin lightening. Unregulated use may cause skin irritation, cataract and unwanted discoloration.

It is worthwhile understanding that nature has cleverly and correctly adapted your skin color on the darker side for geographic, genetic and evolutionary reasons. This pigmentation is actually beneficial since it acts as your very own personal 'skin umbrella' which protects you from sunburns, deep wrinkles and skin cancers. Just like photochromic glasses, your 'skin umbrella' turns darker with sun exposure. You call this a “tan”. Thus, medically speaking, black is beautiful. 3 Ways To Treat Freckles!

Skin complexion varies and is caused by the skin pigmentation known as ‘melanin’, produced by cells called melanocytes, which gives skin the colour. The more amount of melanin, the darker the complexion. Melanin has a protective effect against sun exposure, as it reduces damage caused by the sun on the skin. It is proven that people with a darker complexion (with more melanin) are less prone to damage from sun exposure.

What are they? Freckles are cells that contain more amount of melanin compared to the surrounding areas. It is a common sight where some people have small, tiny black/brown spots on their faces. These spots may also be present on the hands, elbows, neck, back, etc., but are most obvious in the face. These are known as freckles.

Causes: Freckles are very common, and they are triggered by exposure to sunlight. The melanocytes absorb the sun and produce more melanin, thereby causing freckles. They are a natural reaction of the skin to the sun.

  • It runs in families, and children are likely to have freckles if the parents had them.

  • It also depends on complexion – fair people are more prone to have freckles than dark people.

  • Tanning, whether done by the sun or in a salon, also increases the chances of having freckles.

  • In some people, the freckles appear in the summer and disappear in the winter.

  • While some precancerous lesions may start off as tiny brown spots and be mistaken for freckles, freckles per se are not cancerous.

Management: While there are stories that freckles are angel kisses, they are not true. Freckles do not bring any good luck charm and can be prevented and avoided to improve overall skin and esthetic appeal.

Prevention is the first option, and if you are genetically disposed to have freckles, it is best to take measures that can reduce freckles. Avoiding or reducing sun exposure and using good sun protection can help in reducing the number of freckles and the darkness of the freckles.

Freckles can be treated by one of the following:

  1. Topical Creams- Though widely used, these contain bleaching agents which act on the entire skin and not just the freckles. Retin-A is one of the widely used products.

  2. Laser- Considered the best method for freckle removal, a beam of the laser is used to get rid of the unwanted melanocytes which produce melanin. This not only reduces freckles, it also improves skin tone and colour.

  3. Cryotherapy- Liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the melanin-producing cells, thereby removing freckles.

If you have freckles, try these measures for getting rid of them. Once that is done, preventing freckle formation with limiting sun exposure and sun protection is extremely essential.

Hello, A night cream containing kojic acid, niacinamide is safe and effective like Melaglow, you can also use Vit C serums. The most important thing during these treatment is sun protection. You have to be strict with usage of sunscreen atleast three times a day to maintain the results.

साँसों की कमी की बिमारी को हाइपोजेमिया या हाइपोक्सिया कहते हैं. इसमें हमारे शरीर में ऑक्सीजन की खतरनाक रूप से कमी हो जाती है. जाहिर है बिना ऑक्सीजन के हमारा ज़िंदा रहना नामुमकिन है. बिना ऑक्सीजन  के हमारे शरीर को कोई भी अंग अपना काम नहीं कर पाएगा. ऑक्सीजन हमारे लिए प्राण वायु है. यानी ये है तो हम हैं ये नहीं तो हम नहीं. हमारे शरीर के सभी कामों के लिए प्रत्यक्ष या अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से ऑक्सीजन जिम्मेदार है. हमारे शरीर के उतकों और कोशिकाओं में ऑक्सीजन रक्त के माष्यम से पहुंचता है. रक्त में मौजूद आयरन से क्रिया करके हिमोग्लोबिन सभी जरूरतमंद अंगों तक पहुंचता है. हमारे शरीर में ये प्रक्रिया लगातार चलती रहती है. जब हम सो रहे होते हैं तब भी ये प्रक्रिया चलती ही रहती है. लेकिन जब किसी कारणवश ऑक्सीजन का स्तर नीचे आ जाता है तब इसे हाइपोजेमिया या हाइपोक्सिया कहा जाता है. इसका मुख्य लक्षण है साँस लेने में तकलीफ होना.

कैसी होती है हाइपोजेमिया की जांच?
हाइपोजेमिया की जांच डॉक्टर आपके शरीर में नजर आने वाले लक्षणों के आधार पर करता है. ऑक्सीजन के स्तर रक्त की जाँच करने के लिए आपके किसी भी आर्टरी से रक्त का नमूना लिया जाता है और फिर उसमें ऑक्सीजन के स्तर की जाँच की जाती है. इसके अलावा, ऑक्सीमीटर के द्वारा भी, शरीर में ऑक्सीजन के स्तर की जाँच की जा सकती है. ये बहुत आसान प्रक्रिया है जिसमें एक छोटी सी क्लिप को आपकी ऊँगली पर लगाकर रक्त में ऑक्सीजन की मात्रा को छोटी सी स्क्रीन पर दिखाया जाता है.

हमारे शरीर में ऑक्सीजन का सामान्य स्तर 95 से 100 तक होता है. लेकिन जब ये 90% से नीचे जाने लगता है तो इसे ऑक्सीजन का कम स्तर माना जाता है. ऑक्सीजन के स्तर को बना कर रखने का एक तरीका यह भी है कि अस्थमा जैसी बीमारी को नियंत्रण में रखा जाए. इस बीमारी के कारण, बहुत से हो सकते हैं, जिनमें से फेंफड़ों के रोग जैसे अस्थमा, न्यूमोनिया यानी (सी.ओ.पी.डी) की सभी बीमारियां शामिल हैं. इसके अलावा शरीर में ऑक्सीजन की कमी का सबसे प्रमुख कारण आयरन की कमी होता है. इस बीमारी के लक्षण, साँसों में तकलीफ, हृदय गति बढ़ जाना, साँसे तेज हो जाना, त्वचा का रंग नीला हो जाना, अकारण ही पसीना निकलना, मानसिक भ्रम हो जाना के रूप में सामने आते हैं.

हाइपोजेमिया के कारण
आमतौर पर तो ये किसी को भी हो सकता है लेकिन बीमारीग्रस्त इंसान को होने की संभावना ज्यादा रहती है. ये उन लोगों में ज्यादा हो सकता है जिन्हें साँसों से संबंधित अन्य परेशानी जैसे अस्थमा, निमोनिया आदि बीमारियां होती हैं. इसका कारण हमारे शरीर में होने वाली आयरन की कमी है.

हाइपोजेमिया के लक्षण

  • हृदय गति बढ़ जाना.
  • त्वचा का नीला पड़ना.
  • सीने में दर्द होना.
  • सांस लेने में तकलीफ होना.
  • साँसे तेज हो जाना.
  • बिना शारीरिक मेहनत के पसीना आना.
  • त्वचा की नमी खोना.
  •  मानसिक भ्रम.

कैसे बचा जा सकता है हाइपोजेमिया से
जैसा कि आमतौर पर कुछ सावधानियां बरतकर हम किसी भी बिमारी की संभावना को कुछ हद तक कम कर सकते हैं. ठीक उसी तरह हाइपोजेमिया से से बचने के लिए भी कुछ प्राथमिक उपाय कर सकते हैं. हलांकि इस तरह की गंभीर बीमारियों को बेहतर इलाज के द्वारा ही ठीक किया जा सकता है. फिर भी निम्लिखित सावधानियां बरतकर हम इसकी संभावना को जरुर कम कर सकते हैं.

  • रोजाना पांच से दस मिनट एक्सरसाइज जरूर करें.
  • आयरन से भरपूर भोजन करें.
  • कमरा बंद ना रखें, सबुह के समय खिड़कियां जरूर खोलें.
  • पानी पर्याप्त मात्रा में पीयें, रोज 8 से 10 गिलास पानी पीयें.
  • अपने घर में पेड़-पौधे जरूर लगायें जिससे हरियाली बनी रहे.

नोट :- यदि आपको इस तरह की कोई समस्या होती है तो प्राथमिक तौर पर आप इन्हें आजमा सकते हैं लेकिन चिकित्सकीय परामर्श आवश्यक है.

Protein powder is a dietary supplement for people who are trying to gain muscle through strength-training programs, and it can also be used in weight-loss shakes. Protein is a crucial part of everyone’s diet, and athletic people may even need a little more protein than sedentary people, but using protein in its supplemental form can increase your risk of accidentally consuming too much and causing physical damage. Weight Gain Your body uses protein as energy for its cells, and it also uses it to build muscle. However, your body is limited in the amount of energy and muscle it can store from protein. If you take in more protein than your body actually needs – which is easy to do with protein powder – your body won’t use it to build muscle or store it for later use. Sometimes being skinny isn't something that you want! Looking slim trim and fit is simply amazing but skinny like cloth hanger is not appealing at all. Gaining weight is much more difficult than losing weight. Diet tips: Proteins: Never let your protein intake go lower than 1g/kg of body weight when you are aiming to add long-term muscle. It's the building block of muscle, and your body is going to be starving for it. Carbohydrates: The best range if between 60 and 80 grams of carbohydrates at each meal. Carbohydrates are the body's energy source! Make sure your body has the energy it needs, or again, it will deplete your existing muscle and you'll be back to the stating lint. Have six meals in a day, three big meals and three small. Breakfast, lunch and dinner should be heavy and calorie rich. Eat food like butter, fresh juices, red meat, milk, etc

Weight gain can be a time-consuming process. But you have to be patient and practice it correctly. You should take every 2 hourly meal and fix your meal timing and include good amount of nuts and High Proteins Along With Calories Like Eggs, lean meat, fish, skinless chicken, pulses, sprouts, and dairy products that rich sources of proteins. Please take fruit shakes (Like banana, mango) + 5-6 almonds and 1-2 walnuts. In lunch have multigrain roti + 1bowl dal /palak paneer/ egg white bhurji + 1bowl salad. Evening have fruits shake/lassi/badam shake Dinner: 1-2 paneer stuffed roti/1-2 multigrain roti+ 1bowl dal+ 1bowl salad. Exercises To Gain Weight and Get Enough Sleep And Very Important Keep Yourself Motivated.

I have gained 7 kgs of weight in last 2 years. I have increased my physical activities like walking running cycling etch to 45 mins daily. Still I am unable to shed weight from childhood I have cravings for sweet and junk food in the evening. I can't stop myself from having junk food in the evening. Suggest dry which mitigates this tendency and I eat healthy food and thereby reduce weight.

Stack your kitchen cabinets with healthy food items such as dry fruits, nuts, seeds, fruits etc. And not with packaged food items. So, next time you have cravings, eat one of these healthy foods. Have healthy snacks such as sprouts, fruits, nuts and seeds, makhana etc. In the evening. Stay hydrated; drink at least 3 litres of water daily. Have 4 to 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.
