6 Myths And Facts About Pain

6 Myths And Facts About Pain

MYTH 1:  Pain is always caused by an underlying tissue damage‚Äč

FACT 1: There need not be a tissue damage  for pain to occur. In majority of the cases mere postural deviations, muscle tightness, inadequate joint range and reduced neural mobility, decreased soft tissue(fascia) flexibility can  cause pain.

MYTH 2: Degenerative changes in the joint(as seen in the X-ray and MRI) is the primary cause of pain.

FACT 2: Movement dysfunctions like loss of the intrinsic joint play movements and adverse neural tension cause most of the pain ,rather than degeneration.

MYTH 3: Pain Should not be treated based on radiological (x-ray, MRI) reports.

FACT 3: Pain should be treated  based on patient history and physical assessment. Radiological or laboratory investigations should be used only to rule out any potential red flag(harmful) pathologies.ex; tuberculosis spine, inflammatory arthropathy, fracture, dislocation etc.

MYTH 4:  Treatment should be given exactly in the area of pain.

FACT 4: In most instances the  cause of pain is  present in an area distant to the site of actual pain and hence the treatment should focus on removing the cause of pain rather than alleviating the symptoms in the area of pain.ex: most of the knee pain is caused by a dysfunction in low back (lumbar) and hip (pelvis) regions.

MYTH 5: The painful joint should not be moved and weight should not be transferred through the joint.

FACT 5:. Normal movement within the painless  range is mandatory for the recovery and graded protective loading of the affected structureS is vital for the re- modeling of the collagen in the soft tissues and functional recovery.

MYTH 6: Pain is a disease and hence it should be treated. FACT6: Pain is only a symptom of an underlying disease or a dysfunction and hence when the cause of pain is  treated  pain vanishes by itself.

Pain in your knee may not be an issue with your knee It can be else where let me know all the tests you have done so far and their results you are only treating the pain which is a symptom .Temporary fix like band aid you are missing the root cause which may be relate d to your diet, eating habits, stress etc I am sure your drs would not have done the inflammatory panel tests also drs world wide do not know about this because they have no idea about nutrition each of them have specific uses and cannot be used in certain conditions you have not mentioned about your job and its nature veg / non veg do you drink cows milk what cooking oil you use smoking /alcohol/ tobacco / soft drinks use history needed what chemicals you use for laundry, toilet and kitchen cleaning do you use plastics, and non stick utensils Any of these can cause your pain your daily diet and eating habits, sleeping habits, exercising habits all need to be detailed so take a consult after sharing your name ,health issue and contact number in your feedback to tackle your health issue with diet and lifestyle changes and no medications most likely. Get educated and not medicated remember you cannot fix your health without fixing your diet.

Arthritis Causes And Risk Factors - How can Ayurveda help?

Arthritis is a joint disorder featuring inflammation. A joint is an area of the body where two different bones meet. A joint in the body functions to move the body parts connected by its bones. Arthritis literally means inflammation of one or more joints.

Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain. Joint pain is referred to as arthralgia. When four or more joints are involved, the arthritis is referred to as polyarthritis. When two or three joints are involved, it is referred to as oligoarthritis. When only a single joint is involved, it is referred to as monoarthritis.

Cause of arthritis

It is difficult to narrow down a single cause for it, but a combination of reasons may trigger this disease.

  1. Injury: A hurtful injury can cause your joint to get inflamed and may also damage the tissue around it leading to arthritis.
  2. Heredity factors: In many cases, the genetic make-up of an individual can also cause this.
  3. Diet and nutrition: Sometimes, consuming the wrong diet can cause your joint to either fall weak or affect the tissue around it. For example, sugar-rich foods are not good for your joints
  4. Less cartilage: Cartilage is a firm but flexible connective tissue in your joints. It protects the joints by absorbing the pressure and shock created when you move and put stress on them. A reduction in the normal amount of this cartilage tissue cause some forms of arthritis.

Symptoms of arthritis

Most common signs on the onset of this disease are stiffness, redness of the skin around a joint, pain due to inflammation, it might also affect your immune system causing a loss appetite if the disease is because of your immune system.

How can Ayurveda help?

Ayurveda can work wonders for this disease since a right combination of nourishing herbs and stable yoga postures improve your joint health for a longer time. Since the treatment is totally organic, the calcium absorption of your body is increased naturally without any side effects. Even Ayurvedic oils work well for joint pain and give you quick relief. If you have been to able to find the right treatment then Ayurveda is for you.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your information is very scanty and vague. So there is no possibility to give any opinion. Swelling of lower limbs can occur due to multiple causes like: Hypothyroidism, high BP, kidney problems with high BP, liver conditions etc. Therefore, unless all other details are given like her BP readings, blood glucose readings, if she has any thyroid related issue and any kidney disease, So if any investigations have been made please do give those. Thanks.
