Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disease. This hormone is needed for every day metabolic functions in the body. Hence, there is a need for constant supplementation for lifetime. So there is no question of cure. Another important aspect is that if a woman desires to have a baby, then very strict control of TSH is absolutely essential. Otherwise, pregnancy may not occur, or if it does happen, fetal development and pregnancy outcomes are affected. So please take care. If you have any questions do come back. Thanks.

If you make necessary dietary changes and combine it with 1 some regular walk or exercise you can shed weight. You need to correct your diet wherever it’s going wrong. Focus on higher protein intake, lower fat and restrict carbohydrates to high fibre foods only. Avoid simple sugars as far as possible like sugar, jaggery, honey, sweets, candies, chocolates, cold drinks etc. 'Eat Out' less, avoid junk and have good quantity of fresh foods which are not processed like fruits, vegetables, soups, salads, nuts, low fat milk, curd etc. Metabolism is a little slow in hypothyroidism, so you need to keep patience with weight loss. Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. TSh 6.7 mU/L & 7.4 mU/L are high, but fall in the subclinical hypothyroidism category. Usually no treatment is advocated at this level. However, if there are troublesome symptoms present associated with hypothyroidism then treatment is needed. Please tell me why was the test done? What are the symptoms you have? Thanks.

Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Since you are already on Thyroxine supplement, it does not matter whether you take iodised salt or other one. However, it is better to use less quantity of iodised salt. Thanks.

Lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. When hypothyroidism is well controlled, TSH is maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level all the symptoms are in check. Hence if TSH is 4.04 mU/L, you will have to continue the same dosage of thyroxine. Thanks.
