Sports Medicine - Everything You Should Be Aware Of!

Sports medicine belongs to a branch of medicines that specifically caters to sports fitness. It also treats all kinds of injuries sustained because of participation in physical activities such as sports or exercises.

Details about Sports Medicine Specialists:

Sports medicine cannot be referred to as a speciality medicine in itself. Sports medicine doctors have certificates in emergency medicine, internal medicine, family and in addition to this receive additional training. It, therefore, includes researchers, health care professionals and educators from a large spectrum of disciplines.

Those specialists who treat children and teens receive training in either family medicine or paediatrics along with training in the sports field. Some specialists, especially orthopaedic surgeons receive training in surgery.

Why See a Sports Medicine Specialist?

There are a number of injuries that are treated by sports medicine specialists. These include-

• Fractures
• Knee and shoulder injuries
• Heat illness
• Concussions
• Cartilage injuries
Eating disorders
• Exercise-induced asthma
Ankle Sprains
Tendonitis

Sports medicine specialists can also provide expert advice on diet, nutrition, and ways to implement injury prevention and exercise tips.

Nature of Sports Injury Treatment:

The purpose of sports medicine is not only to rehabilitate and treat but also to prevent.

If a person sustains sports injuries the likely symptoms will include swelling, severe pain and numbness. Most often sports injuries do not require any kind of surgery. Treatment methods include using pain relievers and keeping the concerned site of injury completely immobilized. This is done with the help of either a sling or a cast. If surgery is performed, it will be in order to repair damaged tissues or to readjust bones.

Sports medicine, therefore, attempts to enhance athletic performance. This is done by providing necessary tips in exercise and how to effectively prevent injuries. Sports medicine is a thriving field that caters to so many athletes both playing professionally as well as non-professionally. It also serves people involved in different physical activities such as construction workers.

5 Steps A Mother In Her Mid-thirties Should Take To Secure Her Health!

5 Steps A Mother In Her Mid-thirties Should Take To Secure Her Health!

Women experience a number of health disorders in their 30s. This is especially true for mothers. After childbirth, you may have difficulty maintaining your weight. In some cases, you may also experience other hormonal issues, which lead to excessive hair fall and a range of underlying disorders. Therefore, if you are a mother in her thirties, here are some things you should do if you want to stay healthy.

  • Find the perfect diet-

Just because you are a mommy now, you cannot compromise on your diet. If you follow a strict and healthy diet regime, your body will remain healthy and fit. Make sure you are getting enough carbs, fats, proteins and vitamins in your diet each day. Otherwise, you might not be able to direct all your attention to your child.

  • Exercise regularly-

Mothers generally do not need to incorporate exercise, as they often have to run after their kid. However, if you think you are putting on weight, you should start working out. If your schedule does not allow you to go to the gym every day, try to go for a walk every morning. A bit of exercise will do wonders for your body and will reduce your mental stress.

  • Get enough sleep-

One of the things that many mothers compromise on is proper sleep. While we understand that sleeping tends to be difficult with a child around, you should still try to get at least 7 hours of shut-eye every day. Lack of sleep can damage your health and lead to problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. Therefore, let your husband take care of your child while you enjoy your sleep.

  • Deal with stress-

While work and personal life can get stressful sometimes, it is essential to prevent stress from getting the upper hand. Spending time with your child will always put a smile on your face and reduce stress. However, you should also take time out for yourself and do the things that you love.

  • Beware of decreasing bone density-

Women tend to lose some of their bone density in their 30s. As a mother, you would encourage your child to have milk, eggs and leafy vegetables every day. Well, you should follow your own advice and start having these foods yourself. They are a great source of calcium, which acts as the building blocks for your bones. Adequate calcium intake will prevent osteoporosis and keep your bones healthy.

The most important thing for mothers is to remember to take care of their own body. You can care for your child only if you remain at the peak of your health.

4 Health Warnings For Mothers In Their 30s!

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

4 Health Warnings For Mothers In Their 30s!

Changes happen inside a woman’s body all throughout her life. The 30s are no exception.  Many of these changes are a part of the natural process of growing older, while some are not. They could be indicating some underlying illness. In her 30s, a woman’s attention span is stretched thin because she has to juggle and manage her career, motherhood, family and finances. In the midst of all this, she might miss some of these warning signs.  And that can only bring anxiety and worry to her and the ones who love her.

Health Warning Signs Mothers in their 30s should be Aware of-

It is quite normal for spots to appear on the face, arms and shoulders because of exposure to the sun. But sometimes that could be the sign of melanoma – a kind of cancer of the pigment cells of the skin. It usually sets in the 30s and is more common among women than in men. If you see a new breakout of spots, or a change in the old pattern of your moles, or age-spots, patches of dark skin under and around the nails, you should consult a doctor. Melanoma may spread to other parts of the skin and it then becomes very difficult to cure.

  • Stubborn weight gain

Metabolism slows down once a woman is in her 30s. That is why keeping weight under check can become a challenge. A regular exercise regime and a strict diet can help her curb weight gain. But if you notice that, your weight is rising steadily and if no amount of workout and healthy eating is helping you lose those extra kilos, it is time to visit a doctor.  Stubborn weight gain can be the symptom of hormonal imbalance, thyroid malfunction or cysts. Your doctor will prescribe tests to determine what is wrong with your health and put you under medication as soon as possible because these health issues can lead to grave complications if left untreated.

Of course, a woman bleeds from her vagina once every month when she is menstruating. But if you notice bleeding or spotting in between your periods or if you are bleeding excessively during your periods, you should talk to a doctor. Heavy bleeding is normal in the late 30s because that is when a woman approaches peri-menopause. However, unusual bleeding could also be the fallout of other health problems like tumours, cancer of the reproductive organs or polyps.

Hair too has a cycle. Some fall off and new ones grow in their place. However, many women in their 30s notice that they are losing more than 100 strands a day but no new strands are taking their place. Hair loss could hint at a nutritional deficit. This, in turn, could make way for a host of dangerous ailments. So keep an eye out on any change in the thickness and texture of your hair.

A mother has a lot on her mind – protecting her family and earning a living. Nevertheless, it is equally important that she cares for herself.
