The medication you are taking for bipolar is one of the best medications for this disorder. However, a thorough evaluation and review of illness history and treatment records will be needed to comment on the duration of treatment. There are alternative medicines available, but the need for them can only be determined after examination. Additionally, considering that the medication is being consumed for a long time, it will be advisable to get certain blood tests to rule out common adverse effects of the medicine, at regular intervals. I advise you to get in touch with a psychiatrist for the above. Take care.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. From what you describe, she seems to be suffering from mental illness, the nature of which can only be clearly ascertained after detailed evaluation. Many people suffering from mental illness are resistant to visiting doctors, and families are often not able to force them to consult a doctor, leading to a delay in commencement of care, and consequent long term damage. I would suggest you to take the assistance of the local police for escorting her to a psychiatrist. Another option is to contact your local hospital's psychiatry department. Many hospitals (especially government run mental health institutions, such as ihbas, in delhi) have mobile mental health units for this very purpose. Take care.

There are various psychological as well as medication based methods available to quit smoking, and results are the best when both of these approaches are combined. Nicotine replacement therapy, in addition to motivation enhancement therapy, would be advisable. Please get in touch with a psychiatrist for the above.

How to get relief from acute anxiety?

How to get relief from acute anxiety?
Anxiety can be a normal reaction to stress, and can actually help one in tackling difficult situations in a better manner, when it is present in tolerable proportions. However, in cases where it is intolerable, causes dysfunction and distress, or occurs without any specific discernible cause of stress, it needs to be treated. Anxiety disorders are seen in approximately 20% of the indian population, making them a very common problem. It is important to remember that there can be a lot of physical reasons which can mimic anxiety attacks, such as cardiac arrhythmia, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism etc. In those cases, it is important to detect and treat the reason, in order to alleviate symptoms of anxiety. Once these conditions are ruled out, anxiety is treated using psychological means as well as medicine. You are advised to consult a psychiatrist, who will investigate into the causes of anxiety and treat you for the same.

My attitude is very negative. I am always anxious even for very little little things. So there is 24 hrs headache. Sleep disturbances, lot of dreams (normal according to day today activities. And good thing is I have complete insight & I am trying get out of it. Suffering since 3 years. Now has been worsened does any path have any considerably effective, relatively quick remedy on this?

I'm sorry to hear about these difficulties of yours. There are various options available to help you expedite the process of recovery, both medicine based, and otherwise. Considering the problems you've mentioned, I suggest that you get in touch with a psychiatrist. The sooner you get help, the lesser the long term damage to your mind and body would be. Three years is a very long time to have trudged along with such significant issues. All the best, and take care.

I understand your difficulty in this situation. There are 2 things that you can do: 1. The problem that your wife seems to be experiencing most often leads to arguments and fights within couples. It is often the case that each person feels that the other is largely responsible and doesn't want help for themselves. Your wife's stand is completely understandable. You can seek professional help for the couple as a marital unit, rather than just your wife. That approach will make her more forthcoming, since it'll ensure that the spotlight will not rest on just her. Also, it puts down a healthy initiation for therapy, since she will get to see that you want mutual happiness, without solely blaming her or her behaviour for the problems. 2. You can use technology, with apps like lybrate ensuring that your wife doesn't need to leave the comfort of her home to meet a psychiatrist. Both of you could have an online consult. That would definitely lower her reluctance to visit a psychiatrist.

The rash you describe cannot be attributed to hiv directly. You should have a physical examination to determine the cause. A dermatologist should be able to help.

In order to help you, it'll be necessary to evaluate what sort of thoughts you experience repeatedly. These repeated unnecessary thoughts can be at the root of your sleeping difficulty too, so sleep medicine might not be an appropriate long term solution for your problems.

I am very short tempered and have mood swings. Do I need a doctor?
These features can be normal components of one's personality, and do not necessarily warrant medical attention, unless they are perceived as persistently troublesome by you, and are leading to significant distress, both at a personal as well as a social level. If that is the case, I would suggest that you get in touch with a psychiatrist for a detailed evaluation.

Medicine of ocd. My wife wasting too much water on washing wall, door, pipes, electronic items. And force to children do same please consult the best medicine.

Sorry to hear about your family's problems. While the symptoms do definitely sound like ocd, I suggest you get a detailed evaluation, both for confirmation of diagnosis, as well as identification of commonly coexisting conditions, if any. For example, around half the people with ocd also suffer from depression, which warrants special attention. Additionally, medication prescribed for ocd depends on individual patient profile, something which can be determined after evaluation. This needs to be done to ensure suitability and tolerability of the medication, and to minimise side effects. Also bear in mind that treatment success rates in ocd are highest if both medication and psychotherapy are combined, and family counseling also plays an important role. Kindly seek a consultation with a psychiatrist for proper addressal of the problem.

Is memory loss always a part of aging? how much loss is considered normal?
Memory loss is no longer considered a normal part of ageing. An evaluation by a psychiatrist or neurologist would be advisable to quantify the memory loss, if any, and to ascertain if there are other related issues which may occur along with or contribute to diminishing memory. It is important that you seek an evaluation at the earliest, since a lot of conditions causing memory loss are reversible, if detected and treated in time.

Does hiv comes through oral sex.

MD - Psychiatry, PDO, MBBS

Ask Free Question
The risk of hiv transmission through oral sex is much less than that from anal or vaginal sex, but it is not zero. Performing oral sex on an hiv-infected man, with ejaculation in the mouth, is the riskiest oral sex activity. Factors that may increase the risk of hiv transmission through oral sex are oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores, and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases. Use of barrier methods such as condoms, during oral sex is considered protective.

There is any natural remedies for bipolar disorder without allopathic medicine.

MD - Psychiatry, PDO, MBBS
Psychiatrist
Ask Free Question
Bipolar disorder is one of the psychiatric conditions with a very significant genetic component, which means that a lot of the causation deals with biological factors, in addition to environmental influences. Apart from these factors, an individual's personality and perception of the world around him also plays a key role. Thus, comprehensive therapy for bipolar disorder requires medication for the biological component, as well as psychotherapy for the other 2 components. Regulation of daily routine, diet, alcohol intake (if any), and sleep - wake cycle acts as a very useful adjunct to treatment, and dictates relapse in many cases.

Such problems are becoming increasingly common. A few of the causes are lack of proper sleep with the possibility of a sleep related disorder, vitamin deficiencies, age related changes etc. An evaluation for the above is advisable.
