Also called the surfer's’ eye, Pterygium is a problem that affects people who spend a great deal of time outdoors. These individuals would have a growth of pink coloured fleshy tissue on their conjunctiva. This would be accompanied with sign of constant itching and burning sensation. The eye also tends to appear more red and one feels that there is something constantly inside the same.
HOW IS PTERYGIUM DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis would be done by an ophthalmologist who would also check for signs of internal damage and observe the eyes.
HOW IS PTERYGIUM TREATED?
A Pterygium doesn't cause problems or require treatment but it can be removed if it interferes with the vision. In a severe case of Pterygium, doctor may recommend surgery to remove Pterygium of eye drops.
