Lazy Eye, also known as Amblyopia, occurs when the brain favors one eye, often due to poor vision in the other eye. As a result, the brain tends to ignore signals from the weak or lazy eye and this condition leads to vision impairment. Lazy Eye may be hard to detect, however, some of the common signs of Lazy Eye include poor depth perception, squinting, double vision, a tendency to bump into objects on one side, and many more.
HOW IS LAZY EYE DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of Lazy Eye is done through physical examination by an ophthalmologist. Eye tests for lazy eye are done by dilating the pupils. Preverbal children are tested using a magnifying device, while children 3 years and older are tested using pictures and letter tests.
