Irregular Heartbeat or cardiac arrhythmia is a condition in which the electrical impulses that coordinate your heart beats do not work properly, resulting in too fast or too slow or irregular heartbeat. Symptoms are:
• Fluttering in your chest
• Chest pain
• Racing heartbeat
• Shortness of breath
• Light headedness or dizziness
• Fainting or near faint feeling
HOW IS IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of Irregular Heartbeat is based on your symptoms and medical and family history. Other diagnostic tests that cardiologists order are electrocardiogram, holter monitor, event monitor, echocardiogram and implantable loop recorder. In some cases stress test, tilt table test and electrophysiological testing and mapping may be done.
HOW IS IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT TREATED?
Treatment basically depends on the severity of the condition. If the irregular heartbeat is persistent, stent and angioplasty may be recommended. Pacemakers are another tool that can be used in this regard.
