ILIOTIBIAL BAND FRICTION SYNDROME
The Iliotibial band is a type of connective tissue that helps to stabilize the knee during strenuous activity such as running. Due to repeated action and friction sometimes this area might get inflamed this is known as the Iliotibial band friction syndrome. Pain or a stinging sensation with the knee joint getting swollen are the symptoms of this disorder.
HOW IS ILIOTIBIAL BAND FRICTION SYNDROME DIAGNOSED?
A physiotherapist would recommend an MRI scan which would help to diagnose this disorder.
HOW IS ILIOTIBIAL BAND FRICTION SYNDROME TREATED?
Common treatments for Iliotibial Band Friction Syndrome are physiotherapy and surgery. Physiotherapist may advise exercises for the knee that help reduce swelling, increase range of motion, pain and normalize lower limb muscle lengths. Surgical release of the Iliotibial Band may be required in severe cases
