Like adults, children too tend to cough as a reflex action trying to get their foreign bodies out of their system. Irritation in the throat and mucus production are also relevant reason for coughing. Usually coughing in children is not something very serious and goes away within a few days. Symptoms may include cough with fever, which could be both dry and wet.

Diagnosis of cough for kids is usually done with the stethoscope but in some serious cases if the cough is not going away - a chest X-ray might be suggested.
HOW IS COUGH IN CHILDREN TREATED?
An acute cough in children can be treated through simple home treatments. For children less than 4 years of age, cough medication is not recommended. A cough due to asthma requires bronchodilators to ease the difficulty in breathing. A whooping cough can be treated with antibiotics. A cough in children due to allergies or sinusitis may be treated with anti-histamine drugs
