HOW IS BLINDNESS DIAGNOSED?
Detailed examination by an Optometrist helps to determine the cause and type of blindness. A series of tests is recommended to check the function of eye muscles, clarity of vision, and how pupils react to light.
HOW IS BLINDNESS TREATED?
Sudden vision loss can be treated through medication if diagnosed immediately and appropriate corrective measures are taken. Blindness due to cataract, glaucoma or trachoma and other causes can be corrected surgically. For those whose blindness cannot be cured, physical aids like white cane, GPS devices and techniques like echolocating may help improve their mobility. For reading, the Braille-based systems may be used. For those with partial blindness, magnification devices help in reading.
