Aspergillosis is a fungal growth or infection that typically afflicts the decaying vegetables and other substances. Too much exposure or contact can lead to this infection. Usually, people with low immunity or an existing lung condition may be most susceptible to contracting this infection.
HOW IS ASPERGILLOSIS DIAGNOSED?
Tests to diagnose Aspergillus infection include: • Aspergillus antibody test • Chest x-ray • Complete blood count • CT scan • Galactomannan • Immunoglobulin E (IgE) blood level • Lung function tests • Sputum stain and culture • Tissue biopsy
HOW IS ASPERGILLOSIS TREATED?
The treatment can be done through antifungal medication as well as surgery for very severe cases where the fungus coats the heart valves with infection as well. The medication may be given orally or through intravenous administration.
