Indoor plants are not just meant for embellishing your interior spaces. They have other qualities as well. They can interact with your mind and body and better your life with their healing qualities. Here's how they can benefit your health:

They make breathing easy: Do you remember your old science lessons in school? Well, you must know that plants release oxygen into the atmosphere and absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. Human beings do the reverse during respiration or breathing. During night, plants respire like us and absorb oxygen as photosynthesis halts. But there are few plants like orchids, succulents and epiphytic bromeliads do the opposite bit by releasing oxygen even at night. You can keep these plants in the bedroom to increase the oxygen supply around you. This helps your breathing and keeps you fit.
Add moisture to the air: Plants release water in the form of vapour during photosynthesis and respiration. This leads to increase in the moisture content of air. They are known to release about 90% of the water consumed by them. Therefore, if you keep plants inside your house, your respiratory troubles will be reduced by a great extent. The moisture laden air around you will heal and help your respiratory tract. According to a study by the Agricultural University of Norway, the possibility of developing conditions like dry skin, sore throats and dry coughs is reduced.
Natural purification of air: It has been claimed by researchers that plants can remove about 87 percent of toxins from the surrounding air in a day. These toxins are called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs include formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene.
Health booster: It influences the overall health of an individual. It has been found by researchers that surgical patients improve faster in rooms with plants. They feel energetic; have proper heart rate and blood pressure. Ayurveda Science tells us that a green and airy ambience is pleasing to the mind. It helps in insomnia, hyperacidity and is an excellent aphrodisiac!
Increases concentration power: A study by The Royal College of Agriculture in Circencester, England, claims that indoor plants helps in increasing the concentration power in individuals. They make you relaxed and leave a positive impact on your mind. You are filled with optimistic energy and able to focus in life better. It can take away stress from your life. People who keep indoor plants in their houses are usually satisfied with life.
Thus, indoor plants can bring positivity in your life. They can definitely give you mental and physical bliss. They are not just a splash of greenery with decorative significance. They are your companions for life and agents of good health. Keep yourself free from stress and strains of daily lives by maintaining your indoor garden. Remember, a single plant indoor can give you millions of reason to smile and cheer for.

The monsoons will be here soon. And so will be the weddings. We Indians have an extra season apart from the traditional Summer , Spring , Autumn and Winter - the wedding season!

Maintaining our health despite the wedding food , drink and revelry is a challenge. Ayurveda is there to help you out yet again!

    1. Hair and Skincare - Hair styling ,makeup, late nights are a part of our weddings. Your hair and skin certainly need the extra care now.

Triphala Juice - available in all Ayurveda stores, Triphala is an excellent hair and skin tonic. Take 5 ml of this tonic diluted with 10 ml of water first thing in the morning daily. This is a wonderful tonic for digestion too!

Oil bath - apply a combination of coconut and sesame oil to your hair and all over the body. Leave it on for half an hour and then have a warm water bath. This will protect and nourish your hair and skin. Do this once or twice a week.

    2. Diet - this goes for a toss in the Great Indian wedding. Follow these tips to protect your health and prevent illness.

Cumin/Jeera water - boil one liter of water with 3 teaspoons of cumin seeds for 5 minutes. Filter it. Drink this water the day after the wedding. This is a digestive, a liver tonic and if taken warm works wonderfully well in burning the excess fat. You need not have it in one shot. Have a cup every now and then.

Buttermilk with Asafoetida/Hing - To 1/2 cup of curd add 1 cup of water and a pinch of asafoetida powder. Churn it well with a hand churner or blender. Drink this after lunch. This is a wonder drink to help improve digestion. It relieves acidity and constipation too.

    3. Body care - Dancing, standing for long hours, high heels may leave you with a sore back and body pain.

Foot soak - to half a bucket of warm water add 1 teaspoon of rock salt and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil - this is a wonderful Ayurveda medicine for aches and pains. Soak your feet for 20 minutes. do this daily for best results.

Ajwain / carom seeds - this is another wonderful pantry herb to relieve aches and pains. You get Ajwain ark in Ayurveda stores , use 1 tsp of this diluted with 3 tsp water twice a day after food to releive aches.

Ayurvedic massage - this is a wonderful full body relaxation and detox procedure. Go to a good Ayurveda center and undergo this massage every 15 days to stay healthy , happy and relaxed.

A good night's sleep can make your day and a bad one can break it. Take out five minutes from your daily routine for a foot massage. This relaxes you, relieves stress, body pain and ensures you get a good nights sleep.
You can use coconut oil/sesame oil/almond oil for massage. Heat the oil slightly. Apply this warm oil to your feet and soles. Massage gently with your fingers for five minutes. You can use those acupressure rollers if you have them instead of using your hands for massage. After 5 minutes of massage wipe your feet with a wet sponge (use warm water to wet the sponge)

Have an awesome sleep and a awesome day!
