Dr Sanjay Sharma pain physician says
Are you suffering from chronic pain as a result of injury or arthritis?
Do you want a pain free, non-surgical treatment to rid you of chronic back pain, neck pain, foot and ankle problems, or headaches?
What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy, (proliferative therapy), also referred to as Sclerotherapy or Reconstructive Injection Therapy (RIT), is a non-surgical, orthopedic procedure to treat pain to tendons, joints, and ligaments caused by injury or arthritis.
How/Why is it used?
Prolotherapy is used to treat pain and permanently stabilize joints by targeting the actual cause of the damage – without surgery, unlike other approaches that only temporarily provide relief to the damaged area.
Prolotherapy is a natural approach in which injections are applied into the specific problem area in order to stimulate cell signals that, in turn, send a message to the immune system to naturally repair the joint or ligament.
How often must patients receive treatment?
Each individual case is different, but most patients receive treatments every 3-5 weeks and will need anywhere from 1-12 sessions of treatment (1-6 for less severe injuries and 6-12 for most back and neck problems).
What ailments can prolotherapy treat?
Prolotherapy is used to treat arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain, back pain/sacroiliac joint disorders, compression fractures, herniated discs, tennis elbow, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, foot and ankle problems, shoulder pain/rotator cuff tears and tendonitis, and headaches.
What kind of results can be expected upon treatment?
Prolotherapy is used to permanently stabilize joints, whereas other treatments provide only temporary relief. After being treated with prolotherapy, 85-95% of patients suffering from lower back pain experienced remission, with much lower percentages reported as a result of surgical procedures.
What makes our prolotherapy different?
our doctors take a holistic view of the body, even from an orthopaedic standpoint. We believe it is crucial to obtain recovery from an injury or to cure chronic pain; prolotherapy cannot be given just into that injured joint. We need to look at joints above and below the injury and make sure they are stable. If these areas are left unstable, and not treated with prolotherapy, then the original injury has a greater chance to recur. We believe that prolotherapy must correct both the injury and the mechanics of the body. For example, if you are suffering from knee pain, and only treat the knee, but fail to realize that the foot and ankle are unstable, then eventually the knee will become re-injured!
One of the most comprehensive prolotherapy treatments we provide is for analysis and correction of the functional leg length discrepancy, or pelvic tilt. Many patients who limp have back and neck pain, suffer from hip pain or have developed knee injuries have a pelvic tilt. Often, even if recognized by other practitioners, the pelvic tilt is usually not corrected.
Furthermore, you can be assured your care will be comprehensive, involving not just treatment of damaged joints, but also consisting of an assessment of nutrition, diet and exercise, and supplements to help enhance healing. When needed, our doctors can also perform detailed analysis into a person&'s unique biochemistry and hormonal production to make sure that they are not only without pain but feel great.
