Symptoms: increase body weight. (your ideal weight is based on your gender, age, & height.) do's and do not's: avoid a sedentary life. Regular and moderate exercises daily, even for ten minutes will go a long way. Daily fast walking for 45 minutes is helpful to burn calories. Avoid a high fatty diet like cakes, biscuits, candies, chocolates, butter, cheese and sugar. Avoid fried and oily food do not over-eat. Instead eat frequent small meals, rather than infrequent large meals with unhealthy snacks in between. Eat 3 to 4 moderate meals a day with your main meal in the middle of the day. Eat slowly. Not only will your meal last longer but it will also feel more substantial. Avoid smoking and alcohol as it predisposes a person towards obesity. Replace daily consumption of soft drinks, fruit juices and milk with 6 to 8 glasses of water. A simple crash diet is never an answer to obesity. Instead a balanced diet with regular exercise is advisable. Think of a permanent change rather than a short term dieting. Walking burns upto 250 calories per hour. Jogging uses about 400 calories per hour. Swimming burns upto 500 calories per hour and playing a game like squash could burn upto 650 calories per hour. Brisk walking at a pace of 120 steps per minute not only helps you to lose weight but also gives your heart and lungs a workout at the same time. Daily calorie requirements: men with inactive lifestyle: 2400 - 2500 cals men with active lifestyle: 2800 - 3000cals men with very active lifestyle: 3400 - 3500 cals women with inactive lifestyle: 1900 cals women with active lifestyle: 2150 cals women with very active lifestyle: 2500 cals consult your doctor: before you start any type of diet. If you are very overweight.

These are signs of indigestion as packed foods like processed cheese put more strain on system, food pipe, liver to produce enzymes to digest food. Remove it from your list if you can, eat soft digestible proteins only as with age our food pipe also gets weak. Get a routine check for heart- ecg, halter, blood for sugar, lipids & cbc. I am 36 years with average weight of 74 kg and do regular exercise. 3 months ago I had anxiety attacks and that followed with hyperacidity and than since I had stop my beer habit, I went into mild depression. All this happened in the last three months. But the most I am worried about is acidity and Gas. Because I took three Ecgs as my chest was in pain. But doctors ruled out any heart issues. Now again I am in trouble with the chest burn and that radiation goes to my left shoulder to my left wrist sometimes. But when I have a deep burp it kind of relaxes. Is it all related or I should be worried about any heart issues. How should I get treated ?

Psychologist, Palakkad
Anand, Anxiety is defined as chronic worry about something which may or may not happen in future. Anxiety and acidity are relatives and they usually stay together. Three ECGs were taken and you are cleared of any heart related problems. Then you should stop worrying about your heart. I advise you to take garlic pearls one pill morning and night after meals. I also request you to post a private question to me with as many details and symptoms as possible. I am happy to help. Take care.

I underwent inguinal hernia operation 3 years back. I used to do weight training before that which I discontinued after the hernia repair surgery. I started weight training again now but I've been diagnosed with small inguinal hernia on the opposite side now. Doctors said we will wait for hernia to grow bigger in size to operate it as it is too small now. My question is whether I will be able to do weight training again ever in life or will I run the risk of hernia every time I lift weights for muscle building? Can I do free hand exercises like push ups, surya namaskar, dips etc in moderation?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FIAGES(Fellowship in minimal access surgery), FMAS (Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery)
General Surgeon, Ghaziabad
Exercises increases the intraabdominal pressure which can lead to hernia. Use lumbar belt and scrotal support. It's not necessary that you can't do exercises. If hernia is small you can still go for surgery.

Please don't use any creams or lotions. It suppress the sebum secretion and block the pores which leads to bacterial contamination and results in more pimples. The other causes of pimples are hormonal imbalance, dandruff, diet rich in oil and non veg, poor hygiene etc. Treating acne in the right way at the earliest will remove pimples without any scarring and gives a long lasting results. But acne patients are more concern about the pimples and try all creams and soaps available in markets which creates much worse their condition. There are very good homoeopathic medicines for pimples which gives rapid and permanent results without any side effects. Along with the medicines there are some specific food which should be avoided for the effectiveness of treatment.

Be energetic Never skip breakfast Have a balanced diet Exercise Drink more water Don’t be stressed Cut down the vices Surround yourself with cheerful people 1 Brown Rice Rich in manganese, the mineral that helps produce energy from protein and carbs, it will help you maintain high energy all day. A versatile ingredient, brown rice can be served as a side dish with your favorite lean proteins (along with nutrient-packed veggies!) for a powerhouse lunch or dinner. 2.Sweet Potato High in carbohydrates and loaded with beta-carotene (vitamin A) and vitamin C, these will help fight off midday fatigue. Bonus: Kids will love this sweet treat at mealtime. Try them mashed or cut into strips, tossed with a little oil and and baked for a healthier alternative to french fries. 3 Honey A spoonful of honey is nature's equivalent of an energy drink. Low on the glycemic index, this natural sweetener acts as a time-released muscle fuel during exercise and helps replenish muscles post-workout. Add a sweet drizzle to anything from breakfast yogurt to afternoon tea. 4.Bananas Because they are composed mostly of sugars (glucose, fructose and sucrose) and fiber, bananas are a foolproof energy food. Top them with peanut or almond butter for a well-rounded snack, or slice one into your morning cereal for an extra boost that will keep you going until lunchtime. 5.apples Not only will an apple a day keep the doctor away, it'll also give you a powerful jolt of energy. High in fiber, apples take longer to digest, so they'll give you a more prolonged lift than many other fruit picks. Snack on apples with cheese for an especially effective pick-me-up. 6 Oranges High in vitamin C, potassium and folate, this citrus fruit rations out energy steadily over time instead of giving you a quick sugar rush. Peel and eat an orange whole to benefit from the pectin and fiber in the fruit's membranes. 7 Spinach An excellent source of iron, a key component of energy production in the body. Eat a spinach salad for lunch and you probably won't experience that afternoon energy slump. 8 Beans Both a protein and a complex carb, they're a must for both carnivores and vegetarians. Toss a cup into of a spinach salad or enjoy a bean burrito. 9 Almonds Packed with protein, manganese, copper and riboflavin, almonds are a handy snack to keep at your desk or in your bag. Copper and manganese play an essential role in keeping energy flowing throughout the body by neutralizing toxins within cells. Riboflavin aids oxygen-based energy production. 10 Salmon Salmon has been receiving a lot of hype lately for its high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which can lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease. But this pink fish also contains protein and vitamin B6, niacin and riboflavin—all of which help convert the food you eat into energy. Top a spinach salad with salmon, or serve it with a side of brown rice and veggies for a power-packed lunch or dinner.

"Roz Khao Ande" - 5 Reasons To Have Eggs Irrespective Of The Season

General Physician,
"Roz Khao Ande" - 5 Reasons To Have Eggs Irrespective Of The Season
It is common knowledge that eggs are one of the most healthy food products but some people tend to believe that it should be eaten only in winters. However, every season is perfect egg season as eggs contain the perfect balance of all vitamins, minerals and proteins essential for your health.

here are 5 reasons to include eggs in your daily diet.

1) eggs increase the level of good cholesterol - egg white is completely free of any cholesterol and is extremely healthy. Moreover, even the yolk contains only 5 gm of fat and 213 mg of cholesterol. Out of this, the amount of saturated fat contained by the yolk is only 1.5 gm. In fact, research has proven that people who consume eggs on a regular basis have higher levels of hdl or good cholesterol.

2) eggs enhance eye health - egg yolks have been found to protect against macular degeneration. They also contain vitamin a and lutein which help in keeping your eyes and vision in good shape.

3) eggs are packed with goodness - not only are eggs an abundant source of iron, selenium, phosphorous and essential vitamins, but they also contain all nine amino acids and a good 6 gm of protein.

4) egg consumption helps in weight loss - according to nutritionists, eating two eggs for breakfast can go a long way in aiding weight loss. Eggs have a high satiety index and thus you are bound to feel full after eating them. Also, a single egg contains only 77 calories which is an extremely minor amount.

5) eggs keep your hair and nails healthy - protein is the key to healthy hair and nails and eggs contain plenty of essential proteins which help maintain shining hair and strong nails.
