I am 30 year male, I had H1S1 (Herpes Simplex) in Oct 2015. It started with gum swelling right behind my front tooth followed by fever and finally entire mouth got badly infected with 4 prominent sores on lips. Initially doctor thought it is local allergy but when it worsened he prescribed Ocuvir 800 (thrice a day). Slowly things improved, sores and everything went away except the swelling behind the gums from where everything started. It reduced but didn't go away completely. I had read on internet that the H1S1 virus would never go and will come back again and again but with lower intensity. I asked my doc will it come back he said it won't and assured me it is nothing to worry about. He also checked my recent blood report and said I am perfectly normal nothing to worry about. BUT after one and half year I am concerned about following - 1. After first instance in Oct 15, it has returned at least for 5-6 times. Very mild in nature compared to first time. Now it starts from one of the four sores I had on lips. I always take Ocuvir 400 myself, as I see the symptoms and it gradually goes away. Is that right? 2. The swelling behind gums is there since Oct 15. It has never gone. I feel it softens or increases. 3. Should I visit a dentist and get mouth cleaned? Or any other suggestion. 4. Is there a way I can get rid of this forever? Open to nature/homeopathy, Ayurveda as well. Please Suggest! Thanks in advance.

Disease recurs with low intensity. You can do this thing. Take proper balanced vegetarian diet. Take 8 to 10 glasses of water daily to detoxify body. Take fruits and vegetables in daily diet. Avoid non veg and eggs always. Take milk and milk products in diet. This will improve your immunity.

I am having an ulcer in mouth since many days, in the lower vestibule. Please tell me what to do.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

Mere teeth yellow q h m kitne try karta hu clean hone ko hota hi nahi h. Why my teeth are yellow I am try all type of colgate and creams.

Yellowish color is usually due to deposition of a hardened layer of dirt on your teeth called as tartar. This can b easily removed by professional cleaning that exposes your natural tooth color.

I have a central cavity in a tooth in lower left jaw which only pains due to sensitivity i.E when i drink even normal water. What could be d cause and other than RT what could be other option if necessary.

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS

Please show to a near by dentist and get a radiograph made. If there are changes in the radiograph as well. RCT will be the best bet.Or else remove the tooth which i never suggest unless its the last resort.

Hi. I have throat pain from last 3 days. I am not able to swallow any thing. please advice me what to do.

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
If tooth pain is so severe then you need to go for root canal treatment for that tooth. If swallowing is difficult then it can also be due to tonsillitis. All that can be checked once you consult a dentist. Hope you get well soon.

I'm currently under orthodontics treatment in my own college since last 5 months for slight overcrowding and twisted lateral incisors in mandibular arch. I noticed no effects of the treatment. Proximal stippling was done between premolars. I had no periodontal problems earlier. I maintain proper oral hygiene. Rectangular wire was placed 5 days ago. Today I noticed my gingiva to be edematous above the molar tubes in maxillary right quadrant. I do not wish to continue with the treatment since there are no visible effects on the tooth that was twisted. I had explained this to the concerned staff before rectangular wire was placed. They simply want to complete the case with or without prognosis and results. Is it necessary to complete the treatment? They are not willing to remove the braces without full payment. Is it possible for me to remove the braces in some other private clinic? I've noticed my teeth have become more sensitive since the treatment started. Please kindly.

MSD - Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge
Dentist, Chandigarh
Hi, your concern is valid. After proximal stripping, there are chances of sensitivity. As I do mot know your case history, I cannot comment if stripping was the only option for creating space between teeth. Stripping in between premolars is rather unheard of. Usually if required, that to with no other option, incisors are stripped. Initail 2-3 months is required for teeth to get used to the force. Tooth movement should be rather gradual or else it'll resorb the roots of your teeth. Bodily movement of the teeth would be noticeable after 7-8 months of the treatment. You can continue your treatment at a private clinic as well, but ensure that the orthodontist is well experienced and reputed and is good in talking to his patients. That'll build up your confidence in the doctor and the treatment as well. Have patience and good luck.

Hi. Yesterday I met with an accident. My front teeth has broken & I have only half teeth thr. It s possible to make my teeth gud as before?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
In short the answer to your question is yes. A half broken tooth can be restored to look like normal in many ways depending upon the damage which has been caused to the tooth and the pulp tissue inside the tooth (nerve as we normally call it.) you may need a root canal treatment if the tooth is broken near the pulp tissue and then the tooth can be restored to look like normal with a tooth coloured composite resin filling or a veneer or a crown as the level of damage may be. You need to visit a dentist at the earliest and get a thorough clinical and radiological examination of the said tooth and discuss the treatment options.

Foul odour or halitosis as it is called can be because of plaque or calculus accumulation over teeth but can also occur if your tongue is not clean. Make sure you clean your tongue as well after brushing. Never use metal tongue cleaners. Use a good plastic tongue cleaner. And do not forget to visit your dentist every six months.

I am user of gutkha from last 20 yrs, but now my mouth is open fully. what can I do now? Please help me.

BDS
Dentist, Amritsar
You had said you are taking gutka for 20 yrs, you have not specified are you worried of any signs and symptoms arising out of that gutka chewing or you want to get rid of that habit, my suggestion to you is quit gutka but it will take you to be mentally strong coz you can have withdrawal symptoms quitting it suddenly. As you said you can open your mouth wide, yes that is good but you need to get yourself thoroughly examined by a dental surgeon to be absolutely sure there is not anything to worry about. Always remember prevention is better than cure, first take a call that you need to quit gutka as soon as possible and visit your dental surgeon for a complete check up.

For healthier teeth, flossing daily in a sawing motion is highly recommended. Take the floss to the point where the teeth meet the gums.

Is root canal treatment can be done for dead teeth? After root canal, how many days cap can be fixed.

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Root canal procedure removes all dead tissues inside your teeth n restores your chewing. So go ahead n get your rct done. After rct, capping has to b done within 30 days of time to avoid re infection n fracture of treated tooth. Once your pain n other symptoms after rct subsides, capping can b immediately done.
