I am 36 years female, have receding gumline to a great extent in lower jaw especially below canines. What is the solution, kindly help.

MDS
Dentist, Kota
Don't brush aggressively. If the gum line is healthy with aesthetically acceptable then you don't need any treatment. If its affect your smile, then line can be raised by gum surgery.

My teeth are yellowish in colour. Is there any alternative other than bleaching of teeth to make them natural white!
hello if you are using power form or ayurvedic to clean your teeth. your teeth become more yellowish with time because powder is more abrasive it will wear outermost layer of tooth enamel. and tooth become more yellowish due to exposure of inner layer dentine which is more yellowish. So avoid vigorous brushing. bleaching can be done. Which can improve your tooth shade

How to stop Pieria of mouth I am suffering since last two years please send me a solution.
- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - have your dentures aligned as needed. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

Saving a fallen tooth can be useful. Try to keep it in place while you seek immediate medical attention. If that is not the case, try wrapping the tooth in a piece of plastic or soaking it into milk and call for immediate dental service.

Hi, see at this point of time braces will correct your tooth positions if they are up and forward or back or not properly aligned. All types of tooth position can be corrected with braces till 40 years of age also. For your jaw problem at this age we have option of orthognathic surgery if your jaw problem is quite severe otherwise if your jaw problem is only minor than braces can cure that also as we have some camoflauge treatments avilable in orthodontics.

Whenever anyone undergoes orthodontic treatment (braces), the teeth are shifted from their position to a new position. In doing so, the teeth undergoes remodelling in the bone. It takes a lot of time to complete. Till the remodeling process is over, your teeth will still be loose in their socket and will have a tendency to move. After your braces treatment, the orthodontist gives you a retainer which keeps your teeth in the corrected position. You should be having a fixed retainer behind your teeth which is supposed to be permanently there. Also, removable retainers for night time wear. If you are not using those or you don't have them, ask your orthodontist for it. Otherwise, your treatment will relapse and your teeth will shift back to its old position or may be worse.

I am 25. My teeth were redish. I make cleaned my tooth 5yrs back by dentist. So my tooth were very white then. Gradually my tooth again became redish. Please tell me how can I get ride of this problem. When I get cleaned my tooth I noticed that my tooth thickness is reduced to thin. So how can I get my tooth white.

There seems to be some misunderstanding as cleaning done by a profeessionally trained person can not harm teeth, it is therefore advised that you contact a dental surgeon and he will clean and if need be bleach your teeth and you will be fine.

We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need root canal treatment. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash. Advise c. Amox 500mg 1-1-1, thrice daily, t. Metrogyl 400mg 1-1-1, thrice daily, t. Imol 1-1-1, thrice daily (contraindicated in conditions with gastric ulcer, asthma, wheezing, allergy), c. Becosules 1-0-0 once daily all for 3 days only. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Crown Sensitivity: Causes and Management

Crown Sensitivity: Causes and Management

Losing a tooth to infection (decay) or trauma can be a painful experience. Imagine that you are in a dental chair and just got a new tooth or a bridge fitted. It is a joyous experience, almost like a new found lease of life, to be able to eat better and look better. However, even after a few days to a week, you realize that the new crown is just not settling down completely. There is a constant sensitivity that exists and is not allowing you to enjoy the new tooth.

There are various reasons that the new crown can be sensitive, some of them including:

  1. A high point: On the new crown, there could be small points that do not allow for a bite as earlier. This can lead to sensitivity and minor jaw discomfort.
  2. Improper fit with exposed dentin: This can happen at the neck area, where the crown is not fitting the tooth, leaving a small part of dentin exposed. This can lead to sensitivity once the crown is fixed in.
  3. Other decayed teeth: If there is a decayed tooth adjacent to the crown, it could be confusing and sometimes difficult to pinpoint the exact area.

If it persists for more than a week, check with your dentist on the following:

  1. Severity of decay: The extent of decay in the first place should be considered, especially if you have had crown as a result of extensive tooth decay. If it was involving a large portion of the dentin, the changes of having sensitivity are high, even after a crown placement.  In these cases, there could be silent abscess, which may never manifest as symptoms, but can cause a gnawing sensitivity issue with each bite.
  2. Area of decay: Root caries and cervical caries are more prone to have sensitivity compared to the crown of the tooth. The enamel layer in these areas is thin and the chances of dentinal involvement is high. The rate at which the decay will reach the pulp and cause pain is also higher.
  3. Type of dental treatment: If extensive metal work is done, the sensitivity might last longer than a week, which is the norm.
  4. Triggering factors: Make a note of what triggers the sensitivity, hot, cold or sweets.
  5. Management: As mentioned, expect the sensitivity with your new crown to last for up to a week. In some cases, it may be longer, depending on, as noted above, the severity of the original decay, the area, triggers, etc.

While some cases may be managed with a small trim of the crown, some may need the crown to be re-fitted, and some may even require re-treating the tooth completely.
