Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Regarding your numbness in your hand which has started after massage or whatever that was, you need to get mri of your neck region done so that we can see what kind of pressure is there. As far as your waist pain goes, if it is your lower back which you are talking about and if there are no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Following a scratch from a pet dog in late april, I decided to go for a rabies booster dose (2 doses) since I had already taken the full course last year. Around 12 days after the rabies booster (on tuesday 5th may), I had a full-on tonic clonic seizure in my sleep (around 12.30 am). The convulsion lasted for around 3-5 mins and I ended up biting my tongue badly. I have no personal or family history of seizures (febrile or otherwise) and this was the first time ever. 15-30 mins (not sure) before the seizure occurred I remember smelling burning garbage/burnt rubber. The next morning, I rushed to the local neurologist who asked me to get an mri/mrv + eeg + lots of bloodwork done. The mri/venal mri was normal, so were the eeg and the blood-tests. The neurologist diagnosed it as late onset seizure disorder and asked me to start with keppra 750 mg twice a day. The same evening I went to another neuro for the eeg and looking at my reports and history, he advised me not to start with the medicine and wait for another seizure before starting the aeds. Also neurologist no. 1 noted that the only real insult was the rabies booster shot and was concerned about the possibility of adem. But since the mri was ok he let it go. Now its been 7 days since the seizure. I have balance issues, limb weakness, difficulty remembering stuff and since yesterday I have extremely itchy palms (with small red spots) and itchy eyes. Its so bad, I was unable to sleep at all last night. Also both my hands and legs (esp my legs) keep falling asleep even when I am sitting normally and I keep getting that pins and needles sensation. My query is this: 1. Is there a possibility of developing adem or any other form of vaccine related encephalitis in the days or weeks ahead? 2. The itchy palms and eyes are a common vaccine adverse effect. Should I be concerned about that? 3. There are more than a few cases of otherwise healthy individuals having seizures/convulsions after taking nootropic vaccines like anti-rabies, japanese encephalitis, tbe etc. Http://www. Jmedicalcasereports. Com/content/7/1/66 pls do check out this link. If my seizure was vaccine meditated. Is there a way to treat the condition (with steroids etc) and/or prevent it from recurring? please do let me know.

In brain if blood clotting is there will that be harmful in future?

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist
Ask Free Question
Clot in brain may be harmful if it is inside blood vessel, because it may hamper blood supply to that part of brain, thus may result in paralysis/stroke. If it has clotted outside the vessel as a result of trauma/injury then it may gradually get resolved without much complications. Clotting inside vessel is called thrombosis and to prevent this long term medications may be required.

Insomnia is a mental condition, which is characterized by a difficulty in falling asleep, even when you have the chance to do so. The causes of insomnia include stress, emotional or physical discomfort; environmental factors like noise, light or extreme temperature that interferes with sleep; and depression or anxiety.

The visible symptoms of insomnia are inability to fall asleep no matter what, irritability, depression, lack of concentration and enthusiasm, and distressed stomach and intestine. Complications associated with insomnia can cause psychiatric problems, obesity, increased risk of long-term diseases or conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.

Insomnia can be classified in the following ways -

Secondary insomnia: it stands for sleep problems that may be caused by health conditions, medications, pain or any other causes.
Acute insomnia: it is also known as short-term insomnia and usually lasts for a night or a few weeks.
Primary insomnia: it refers to sleep problems which aren't directly related with any health condition.
Chronic insomnia: insomnia is described as long-term or chronic if you suffer from it for about 3 nights a week for 1 month or longer.

Hi there, I appreciate that you got the courage to have your question answered on a public forum. Dementia can greatly affect a person's relationship to food and eating. The behavioural, emotional and physical changes that take place as dementia progresses can all have an impact upon a person's eating habits and on their intake of food and drink. It is important to do what you can to make sure that the person you are caring for enjoys their food and eats a healthy, balanced diet. As dementia progresses eating can become difficult for some people. However, by making a few changes you can help keep mealtimes as enjoyable and stress free as possible. Proper nutrition is important to keep the body strong and healthy. For a person with Alzheimer's or dementia, poor nutrition may increase behavioral symptoms and cause weight loss. The basic nutrition tips below can help boost the person with dementia's health and your health as a caregiver, too. Provide a balanced diet with a variety of foods. Offer vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean protein foods. Limit foods with high saturated fat and cholesterol. Some fat is essential for health — but not all fats are equal. Go light on fats that are bad for heart health, such as butter, solid shortening, lard and fatty cuts of meats. Cut down on refined sugars. Often found in processed foods, refined sugars contain calories but lack vitamins, minerals and fiber. You can tame a sweet tooth with healthier options like fruit or juice-sweetened baked goods. But note that in the later-stages of Alzheimer's, if loss of appetite is a problem, adding sugar to foods may encourage eating. Limit foods with high sodium and use less salt. Most people in the United States consume too much sodium, which affects blood pressure. Cut down by using spices or herbs to season food as an alternative. People with Alzheimer's or dementia do not need a special diet. As with anyone, eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet is important for overall health. As the disease progresses, loss of appetite and weight loss may become concerns. In such cases, the doctor may suggest supplements between meals to add calories. Staying hydrated may be a problem as well. Encourage fluids by offering small cups of water or other liquids throughout the day or foods with high water content, such as fruit, soups, milkshakes and smoothies. I hope this helps. I wish you a very quick and speedy recovery. Sincerely,
