Lips are more tender in nature and is a basic feature that represents your face and expression. Hence they need to be kept crack free and moist. To get a natural pink color on your lips, its very important to follow a proper lip care regime on regular basis. ? Mix coconut oil with honey. ? Apply it to the cracked or dry lips and massage for sometime. ? Mix fresh coriander leaves juice with 2 tea spoon lemon juice. ? Apply this to the lips and clean after 15mins. ? Try this weekly twice to turn your lips red. ? For treatment and any queries ask privately Also follow the below tips - Avoid licking or biting of your lips, this dries out lips. ? Stay hydrated to keep your lips moist. ? Stop smoking and limit your caffeine intake. This is the major reasons why your lips become dark. ? Drink plenty of water throughout the day. ? Take high water content fruits in your daily diet. Ex: Watermelon, Orange, Cucumber, lemon etc. ? Maintain a healthy diet and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. ? For treatment and any queries ask privately

Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation - How it Can be Treated?

MBBS, MD - Dermatology

Hyperpigmentation and Hypopigmentation - How it Can be Treated?

The term pigmentation generally has to do with the colour of something. So, in the case of people, it refers to the colour of their skin. So what is exactly hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation? How should a person go about dealing with conditions such as these?

Melanin is a chemical, which provides the skin with its colour. In case of hyperpigmentation, what occurs is that the amount of melanin in the skin increases beyond normal. Now the reasons for this are quite diverse, to say the very least. As a matter of fact, pregnancy could be a cause, as could medications such as antibiotics or antimalarial medicines (medicines to fight off malaria). Addison’s disease could also be a cause.

On the other hand, hypopigmentation refers to the situation in which the amount of melanin in the skin falls below what it should be, under normal circumstances. While there are quite a few causes for this, the primary culprits happen to be burns or injuries. In certain cases, a person may have the sort of situation which occurs in the case of hypopigmentation as a result of having another condition. This generally happens in cases of albinism or vitiligo, which have affected the skin.

So, what is to be done if a person has hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation?

After all, while this may be the issue  of the skin, the impact they have on a person’s self-confidence are more than just skin deep! With hyperpigmentation, exposure to sunlight directly should be limited to a great extent as possible. If there is going to be some sort of exposure, it is important to use adequate amount of sunscreen so that the impact on the skin is reduced. The sunscreen should surely contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. The reason for this is the fact that UV rays are blocked by these two chemicals. This is quite a good thing, considering these rays are the ones which can cause the most damage to skin with hyperpigmentation.

When it comes to hypopigmentation, conditions such as vitiligo or albinism do not have cures. So, they can only be managed to the best extent that is possible. Cosmetics can be used in order to improve the appearance of the person. In addition to this, sunscreen should be used in this case due to the risk that exposure to the sun might affect a person who has hypopigmentation. While this occurs in all sorts of people, it is especially seen in people of Caucasian descent. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist and ask a free question.

What precautions to be taken to dark circles on face please suggest me. & also for what should I do to glow skin?
Do you also have puffy eyes or bags under your eyes? what are your sleeping patterns? there are many causes of dark circles. I need more information from you which will help you choose a better treatment plan. Too much caffeine/ tobacco and too little sleep, anemia, dehydration are common causes. If you dont have any of these causes then dark circle peels may be prescribed for dark circle which contain contains arginine, lactic acid, allantoin and aloe vera. Arginine is an amino acid derived from brown sugar which boosts collagen, increases elasticity and moisturises the skin. Lactic acid exfoliates and lightens the skin. Allantoin and aloe vera helps to soothe and regenerate the skin. This is used in conjunction with vitamin c and matrixyl that provides firmness and resistance to the skin around the eye. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by brown or brown-grey patches, typically on the face. Though this condition usually affects women, it can also occur in men. Patients with a family history are more likely to develop melasma than others. Though the exact cause is often unknown, pregnancy, birth control pills, cosmetics, hormones, certain medications and sun exposure often trigger this condition. It usually occurs on the cheeks, forehead and even on the nose. People with dark hair and dark eyes and even dark skin are more prone to melasma because they have more pigment in their skin to begin with. It is caused by a combination of hormones and ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet rays are present even on a cloudy day so it is important to wear a broad-spectrum of minimum SPF 30 sunscreen every day. That is because ultraviolet light reaches the earth's surface and the surface of your skin at all times. Melasma can be treated by skin creams which can be prescribed only by a dermatologist after complete history and examination. If the topical creams do not work then we have peels, other local spot treatments and also laser therapy. A series of laser treatments may be necessary. It usually requires 10 or more treatments two weeks apart. Each patient is unique and requires a different number of treatment sessions. The number of treatments depends on how dark the discoloration is, how deep the pigment is and the natural color of the skin.
