My 5 months baby boy not gaining weight properly. I am feeding both my milk and formula milk. He is now 6 kgs. At born he is 3.3 kgs. What to do for gaining weight. I am worrying about him.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
His expected wt at this age should be about 7 kg. If baby is active probably he is not getting sufficient feed. Increase either quantity or a number of feed that may be helpful else consult your pediatrician.

How to care a newborn baby? My baby is a girl she is crying too much. Please help me to relax the baby.

Pediatrician, Kaithal
You should follow certain guidelines like only breast feeding for first six months, avoid visitors, no ghutti, gripe water, no Kajal , no talc powder. If baby is crying excessively then you should consult a doctor

My spouse got cracked nipple problem. She has 15 month baby with breastfeeding. She is using nipcare cream and some antibiotics which was prescribed by her doctor but not getting relief.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Correcting your nursing technique can go a long way toward letting cracked nipples heal. Sometimes just the slightest change in positioning will make a world of difference. Feed on the less injured side first, if you have one. Babies often nurse more gently on the second side since they’re less hungry. Apply a cold pack to numb the injured area before nursing. Cold can help dull the pain, particularly during the initial latch, which tends to hurt the most. After breastfeeding Clean your nipples gently, Use an antibacterial ointment if you have an open wound, Take painkillers like ibuprofen about 30 minutes before nursing can help lessen pain and swelling.

Hello doctor. My baby is of 10 days now. And still there is no breast milk formed. Pls suggest as I don't want to keep him on powdered milk. This is my first pregnancy. Pls suggest how can I increase the flow of the milk.

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is nice that you strongly wish to breastfeed him. For first 7 days or so the milk produced is known as colostrum which is yellow coloured ,small in quantity &high in antibody content. But it is sufficient to meet the needs of baby. Pl give powdered milk as per directions written on the can if at all it has to be given. Pl give cup or katori ¬ bottle. GOVT OF INDIA guidelines recommend exclusive breastfeeding for first 6 months of life. The best stimulus for milk production is frequent sucking day &night. Have balanced diet & be confident. Have loving thoughts for your baby. Keep him in direct skin to skin contact. Regards&best wishes.

I am 35 year old. I have one daughter 8 year old and 1 year old son. My son does not sleep at night. He do not play only crying with close eyes Please suggest proper treatment for him.

Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
It appears that your son remains alright in day time but does not sleep at night since quite long time and he closes his eyes while crying. Closing eye during cry is not abnormal. Most likely your child remains hungary. Try to feed him of his choice item.

Hi my daughter is of 6 years old. And has problem of bedwetting. Eventhough she goes to bathroom before bed. And she drinks water after 10 PM. We have given lots of medicine and consult to the doctor. Pls. Suggest the solution.

MD Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
Is this problem since begining or has started recently? I suggest you to stop liquids or beverages after 7 pm. Ask her to empty her bladder before she goes to bed. Consult your paediatrician for the dosage of medication you are using, some times you need to increase the dosage of the medicine till it works.

I am taking a one and a half year old infant to leh ladakh. We as adults are advised to take acetazolamide. Salt (diamond) for acute mountain sickness. But is there any drug for infants and is it safe. Please advise. Else we will cancel the trip.

MBBS DCH
Pediatrician, Gandhinagar
You should better cancel your trip. At high altitude there is very low oxygen concentration in which children become cyanosed.

My daughter is 7 months old. Her weight is 5.25 kg. She is so active but not increasing her weight. I am giving raging sari and vitamin drops. Doctor please tell me some tips. What food shall I give or not give? his birth weight is 2.5 KGS.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
Your baby is doing extremely well. She has gained appropriate weight. Please do not force feed the child. The rate of growth is slowed down in second half of first year thus requirement also goes down. Get her hb and routine urine exam to rule out anemia and urinary tract infection. Regards

For Boosting up your Child's Memory Power.
1. Install 2 drops badam rogan oil in each nostrils at least once a day.
2. Mix 4-5 drops of badam rogan oil in warm milk daily. This would also help to remove constipation in children.

Yes weight is indeed high and height is in normal range. I can send you across the growth chart of your child which can give you better idea. So ofcourse you shall be calorie conscious now for years child and involve the child in more and more physical activity like tennis swimming badminton where calories can be burnt and child can loose bit weight.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS

Hello. Your child is suffering from vitamin d deficiency, then just putting him in sun is not sufficient. He nerds v to be given vitamin d supplements either orally or by injection. Also continue calcium supplements along with vitamin d. For dandruff, use a medicated shampoo such as scalp shampoo or nizoral shampoo.
