Hello Doctor, My son aged six months ,what I feed him please suggest me food for feed.
You can start with weaning foods. It is always better to give home cooked foods. Give easily digestible and soft foods. Mashed rice, mashed banana, cooked apple, boiled and mashed veggies, some porridge (like multigrain) Give juices without sugar Do not force the child to eat. Let the child taste the food and eat it slowly.

Hello, Being premature, he would have born with low, birth weight. At the age of 2.5 months if he weighs 3 kgs it should be doing OK. But it largely depends on his birth weight. Give him more of your milk, as being premature he would be immune compromised. Mother milk is the best food for the baby, as it boosts immunity and it is also a complete food for the baby. If he is constantly crying every hour for milk, it means he is underfed. Ensure 20 mins of feed on each breast is crucial, generally babies get tired or go off to sleep in that process, wake him up and ensure that the baby doesn't sleep half way.

Most doctors or jewellery have piercing gun which will just pierce in a second like giving injection (will be just a mosquito bite like) no need for locally numbing.

What Is Erythroblastosis Fetalis?

MBBS, DNB - Obstetrics & Gynecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
What Is Erythroblastosis Fetalis?

Erythroblastosis fetalis is also known as haemolytic anaemia in the newborn. This occurs due to blood incompatibility in the mother and foetus. Due to this incompatibility, the antibodies present in the mother’s blood, will pass through the placental barrier and attack the blood cells of the foetus. This will lead to the destruction of the red blood cells of the foetus and it is likely to cause anaemia in the foetus. This condition varies from mild to very serious. In its moderate or severe stage, the erythroblasts or immature red blood cells are formed in the blood of the foetus and this disease is called erythroblastosis fetalis.

Why does it happen?
The two main causes of erythroblastosis fetalis are Rh incompatibility and ABO incompatibility.

  1. Rh Incompatibility: When the mother is Rh –ve and the father is Rh +ve, there is a good chance for the baby to be Rh +ve. The antigens present in the blood of the Rh +ve baby will behave like a foreign agent and the mother will produce antibodies against it. If it is the first pregnancy, then the child may not be at risk, however, if the second child ends up being of +ve blood group again, then the antibodies present in the mother’s blood will attack the baby and may result in a spontaneous abortion.
  2. ABO Incompatibility: This usually occurs when the mother’s blood group A, B, O does not match the baby’s. This causes fewer complications in comparison to Rh incompatibility, but it may be severe if the child has a very rare blood group.

How to avoid it?
It is a highly preventive condition. Firstly, you have not tested your blood group; it is advised to get it tested along with the blood group of the father. If you already know your blood group, then you must mention it to your doctor. If the father has negative blood group, then there will be no problem. However if the father is Rh positive, then it is advised to get routine tests done by the doctor.
The other preventive measure to take is a treatment called RhoGAM or the Rh immunoglobulin. It reduces the reaction of the mother to the baby’s blood cells. This shot is administered around the 28th week of the pregnancy. It is also administered 72 hours after the birth of the baby with the positive blood group.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Babies may cry for no reason at some or other times for no fault of mothers. This is an universal truth. Accept this and stop worrying, you will enjoy parenting. See that baby puts on 500-700 gms weight per month.

Your child may have nausea, vomitting, diarrhoea, decreased urine output. Do give your child a lot of water to drink and make sure he passes good amount of urine because glycomet can damage kidneys. If you see any of the above symptoms do take your child to a doctor.

My child is of 4.7 yes old. Day by day his physique is getting deteriorated, though his weight is 19. My question is how can I take care of him to bring back his glamour?

DMB
Pediatrician, Chennai
A four and half year old child having a weight of 19 is more than the indian average. When you say physique, i assume it is chubbiness you are referring to. Is he a child model? If not, there is no cause for worry. Most children at that age start growing taller and loose the child like face. Giving a nutritious wholesome diet will keep him healthy and strong.
