MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Stay Healthy

Let's all break the taboo against psychiatry and accept it as any other field of Medicine. Let's all join and raise awareness and spread the message "Dignity in mental health" and treat people suffering from such illness with respect.

Join hands, help break the taboo.

Let me clear some common misconceptions we have about psychiatry today:

  • People suffering from mental illness are not "mentally disturbed" there are different kinds of problems and we should stop labelling them.
  • Psychiatric medications are NOT addictive!
  • You are "NOT WEAK" if you seek help of psychiatrist. In fact you are mentally strong and mature enough to understand you have a problem and will do what is right to solve it rather than running away from and issue
  • Illness is not under patients control it is not all  In their head!
  • Hypertension and diabetes are all long term illnesses we take medications for that them, then why not for depression and other psychiatric illnesses?
  • This is just an imbalance of neurochemicals, just treat it and lead a peaceful life.
  • Psychiatric illnesses are treatable.

Hope this helps and clears some doubts lingering in our minds.

It's better to postpone periods. Take primolut n tab once a day from 20th jan onwars for as many days as you don't want them to occur. Periods will come 2 to 3 days after stopping it. Another disadvantage of preponing is, just incase you conceive immediately after marriage and don't bleed even once ,it can raise suspicion in your husband's mind.

For conception, semen has to be ejaculated inside vagina at or around ovulation day, which comes 14 days Prior to the next due period. After this incidence you got your periods, so don't worry YOU ARE NOT PREGNANT. If no actual contacts occurred after recent periods, then don't worry. Each month only one egg get released, which if not get fertilized will be washed away during periods. You don't have contacts after that, then you are not pregnant.

Then gradually start an exercise program, eat right and continue breast-feeding to help shed those pounds. Breastfeed Your Baby. Breast-feeding your baby can help you shed pounds. Start Exercising. Walking after a C section can speed recovery. Eat Healthy. Eat a healthy breakfast. Limit Unhealthy Foods. Cesarean sections take more of a toll on your body than uncomplicated vaginal deliveries because you have a major surgery to recover from. With the right balance of healing, light exercise, muscle work and good eating, you' ll be able to reach your goal weight and develop the strength and stamina you' ll need to care for your new addition. Step 1 Wait until you see your doctor for that first follow-up appointment. You may feel ready but your incision site and healing tissues may tell another story. It can take up to six weeks on average before you' re ready to start an exercise routine, according to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Step 2 Start strengthening and tightening your abdominal muscles with some easy breathing exercises designed to work your abdominal muscles. You can perform these exercises from the first day after your C-section, according to The Ohio State University. Place your hands or a pillow over your incision site and breathe deeply, filling up your diaphragm with as much air as possible. Exhale slowly and repeat until your muscles feel tired. Repeat several times per day. Step 3 Eat a diet high in nutrients and low in saturated fat and excess sugars. This will help you lose weight and will support healing and a robust milk supply. Choose whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and low fat protein sources, according to MayoClinic.com. Make sure you' re only eating when you' re hungry. Step 4 Consider breastfeeding your baby. Researches in a study published in the April 1993 Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that breastfeeding moms lose more weight, more quickly than moms who formula feed. Breastfeeding calls on your body to burn additional calories as it creates and replenishes your milk supply. Step 5 Start a cardio program that includes a low impact but heart-rate increasing activities like walking or swimming. Warm up before exercising and cool down afterward to avoid muscle strain or injury. Perform these exercises at least three times per week, according to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Perform muscle strengthening exercises on off-days as muscle increases fitness level and burns more calories. Stop exercising if you feel a tearing sensation at your incision site or if you develop nausea, dizziness or any type of pain. Start slowly and build back up to your pre-pregnancy workout routines.

This pain can result because of incorrect way of penetrating the vagina, lack of lubrication, thick hymen, or other problems in the vagina. It is better to take a gynecologist consultation first. DO not try home remedies or self medication. If the problem is not identified properly and treated, it may induce fear of penetration and sex in your wife and may ruin your sexual life. However, there is no reason for worry, because whatever the problem, it can be treated easily by the doctor.

Pregnancy Care

MBBS, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Play video

Hello viewers, I am Dr Purnima Jain. I am practising Obstetrics and Gynaecology from last 17 years. In this video, I am going to talk about Pregnancy Care and the different investigations required during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is the most happiest period of a women's life but at the same time, women goes through various emotional conflicts during this epriod. So, she is happy about her pregnancy but at the same time, she is worried about the various ailments which affect during pregnancy. Also, she is scared about various investigations and scans which are being done repeatedly. So, she should be explained and informed and explained about various things which are required during pregnancy.

I am tyelling you the things which are commonly practised by all the gynaecologist. There may be different view of different doctors but the goal of all is same, that is, to have a healthy abby and a healthy mother at the end of pregnancy. And to achieve this, I think that the patient should be well informed because a well informed patient will enjoy her pregnancy and after the period is over, she will have a better outcome.

How to calculate the expected date of delivery?

The first question which patient asks is when will be the delivery date. So, we should know that how to calculate the expected date of delivery. Usually the duration of pregnancy is about 40 weeks or 280 days and it is calculated from the last day of periods. It is a simple method of calculation is, from last menstrual period + 9 months + 1 week gives the expected date of delivery. Suppose your Last month od periods was 10th.oct, 2016 then the expected date of delivery will be 17th.july, 2017.

Secondly, we divide pregnancy into 3 trimesters.

1st Trimester is from 1- 12 weeks.

2nd Trimester is from 12-28 weeks.

3rd Trimester is from 29-40 weeks.

The division of these three trimesters is necessary because problems during different period are different and care during different period are different.

In 1st Trimester, as soon as you diagnose your pregnancy, one should visit a gynaecologist and get registered with the gynaecologist because at this time, we need to get certain investigations done and patients usually have some problems like vomiting and most frequent problem during 1st trimester is problem of abortion. The routine investigation which are done during 1st trimester are Haemoglobin, serum TSH level, blood group, HIV, Hepatitis B surface antigens, BDRL, blood sugar levels, routine urine test, microscopic examination, IGM levels and if required HPMC level.

Ultrasound scan is usually done on 6th week for the confirmation of pregnancy, viability and in the later time for dating of pregnancy.

2nd trimester is usually healthier period. Patient usually suffer least problems. But during the 2nd trimester, at 16th week, we give first tetanus toxoid injections. And on 18th week, we do anomaly scan and triple or quad test. On 20th week, 2nd dose of tetanus toxoid is given. On 24th week, we do blood sugar test fastinga nd after meals. On 22nd week, if required a Fetal echo is done. If required means, if there is a malformation history of previous child or if the mother is suffering from hypertension, heart failure etc. Duering 2ns trimester, irona nd calcium supplementations are usually started and diet counselling is done.

During 3rd trimester, on 28th week, a color doppler test is done to see fetal growth and well being. On 32nd week, routine check up is done. And on 36th week, a repeat ultrasound for fetal representation is done.

After 36th week, a patient should visit gynaecologist every week to avoid complications.

Better to get your polyps removed because anything inside the uterine cavity can hamper your results. Iui as it is has a minimal success rate so get optimum benefit u should go for polyp removal before iui.

It depends at that time on how your pregnancy condition is your gynecologist will do a general examination and then decide accordingly whether medicine is required to be taken or not it is advisable to keep a gap of atleast three years between the two pregnancy then it is more safer.
