My gums are bleeding sometimes. What can I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
My gums are bleeding sometimes. What can I do?
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedures. You may consult me in person too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

You may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection.

I have chronic problem with mouth ulcers. What can i do?

BDS
Dentist,
There are so many causes of mouth ulcers like- -stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers. -certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer. -sometimes a sharp tooth surface also trigger mouth ulcers. -some cases of complex mouth ulcers are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin b-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as coeliac disease and crohn's disease. -when you first quit smoking, you may develop more mouth ulcers than normal, but this is temporary. Usually ulcer heals by itself only within 1 week. You can take'becosule capsule' once in a day for 1 week for faster recovery. Temporarily you can apply mucopain gel over ulcer for relief.

My sister is 55 years and has a tooth pain so do you advise root canal or not?

BDS
Dentist,
A root canal can be done if the tooth is not shaking and is firm. Saving a tooth is always better than removing it.

Oral and Dental Care

Oral and Dental Care

Bacteria can live in your mouth in the form of a plaque, causing cavities and gingivitis, which can lead to periodontal (gum) disease. In order to keep your mouth clean, you must practice good oral hygiene every day.

A mouth rinse, in addition to daily brushing and flossing, can increase the cleanliness of your mouth. Antibacterial mouth rinses reduce bacteria and plaque activity, which causes gingivitis and gum disease. Fluoride mouth rinses also help reduce and prevent tooth decay.

Dear parents fluoride rinses are not recommended for children ages 6 years and younger because they may swallow them.

Here are some tips to help you look after your teeth.

1.Brush at least twice a day. The best time to brush teeth is after meals. Choose a toothbrush with a small head for better access to back teeth. Soft bristles are kinder on your gums.

2.Use fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoride helps to harden tooth enamel and reduces your risk of decay.

3.Brush thoroughly. Tooth brushing should take between two and three minutes.

4.Floss your teeth daily. Use a slow and gentle sawing motion.

5.Limit acidic drinks like soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices. Food acids soften tooth material and dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel, causing holes (cavities or caries). In severe cases, teeth may be ‘eaten’ right down to the gum.

6.Limit sugary foods. Bacteria in dental plaque change sugars into acids.

7.Protect your teeth from injury. Wear a mouthguard or full-face helmet when playing sports.

8.Try to save a knocked out tooth. If possible, hold the tooth back in place while you seek immediate dental advice. If this is not possible, wrap the tooth in plastic or place it in milk and seek dental advice immediately.

9.Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food. If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you risk chipping or even breaking your teeth.

10.See your dentist for regular check-ups. You should also visit your dentist if you have a dental problem such as a toothache or bleeding gums.
